1. I think this is one of those situations where nobody can tell you what to do apart from yourself. Like, if you weight up the pros and cons and decide to leave, then that's your choice. If it's all amicable then you could come to an agreement with the other guys and leave after you've played the current booked gigs, giving them a chance to hire someone else or do whatever they want to do. On the other hand, if you do still enjoy it for all the right reasons, then why put an end to it because things are changing? It could take you in a new direction that you enjoy more than you expected to. It's one of those where there's no point in making a rash decision if you're still enjoying it on any level. At least you're all communicating and things are still being discussed in a friendly manner. Think of it as this – you're getting on with the band members/friends, you're getting booked for gigs, you're still popular. If you don't enjoy the new direction, talk to them about it. But see how it goes.
2. I'd be down with getting my hands on a wristband of some kind. Failing that, do we have any stickers or anything on here? Would make things more interesting to be on the lookout for them. On amps and the like, the obvious spaces for them on guitars, or the more subtle addition to a pedal board/case. If not, I'm going to look into making them anyway...
3.
Please excuse my ignorance, but what's an e-cheque?
A bad idea, by the sounds of it.
4. Am I the only person here that uses DR strings? Coated like Elixers. They're bloody expensive but last longer and come in pretty colours, haha.
5.
To my mind the BB414's are quite a special bass...super hot pups, deep or bright sounds, great necks, lovely build quality, comfy too, mine's a keeper for sure. There is an metallic pearl orange one for sale on here somewhere and I think the orange is worth paying more for, such a beautiful bass.
Oh hai. See my sig. If mine doesn't go soon, I reckon I'm going to change my mind and keep it.
6.
There's no quick reply to this.
This. It depends on LOADS of different factors - your playing style, your financial situation, your personal preference to the number of strings, if you want to play other genres at the same or just stick with the heavy stuff.... The list goes on. It's almost as open ended and subjective as me saying "I want a new bass. What should I get?"
7. It's fair enough if people back out because of genuine reasons, but it's the difference between common courtesy and indecisiveness, surely? Like, there have been loads of things that I've looked at in the for sale section and thought "hmmmm...", but haven't followed up on because I know in my heart that I can't really afford it or don't actually need it, so I don't make contact. It's taken some serious thought at times, which sounds ridiculous, but I'd much rather do that and make the right choice than get in touch because the deal looks cool and then decide it's not for me after building hopes up. If there's a genuine reason why a sale can't go ahead, then fair enough. But more times than not, a bit of thought before hand can make a lot of difference and save a lot of time.
8. Just had a quick clicky – very good stuff. Will definitely be checking it out more thoroughly.
I'd have loved mine in this colour, but they didn't have a four-stringer in it when I bought mine (nasty white) in a hurry. Good luck with the sale though!
Yeah, I saw this when I worked in a music shop and had to have it in this finish. Cheers!
12. I haven't read through the whole thread yet, so sorry if I'm repeating anyone else's post, but if the issue is how much effort people are/aren't putting in then why don't you address that instead of the financial situation? It's easier to split cash evenly in every situation, so if you're doing the web, etc and someone else isn't pulling weight, why not look at what they can do or how you can shift some responsibilities to even it out and make the whole deal fair?
13.
Don't think I could get anything on credit again, psychologically it's a burden.
How is the instrument and equipment scheme any different really though?
14. It bugs me when people don't move around when they're playing if the music is lively enough to warrant it. I'm not a fan of screamo stuff as much any more, but I caught a band the other day who I thought "this would be pretty good if the players didn't look like they were bored". They could have turned a lifeless but loud set into one of full-on, balls out energy and aggression that you'd have to admire regardless of whether you like the music or not. THAT'S the difference. Apathy on stage gets right on my tits. People can't see how much you're enjoying it unless you SHOW them. Then they're much more likely to enjoy your set just as much. That's how I feel anyway. If no other reason, I move around because it's fun. On more than one occasion I've had to finish a song on my back after falling on my arse.
15. Depends entirely on what kind of music you'd like to be playing. Any ideas? If you're going for the stereotypical beginner band then have a look at the back catalogue of Green Day, Pixies, Blink 182, Weezer, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, Offspring... The list is endless. Basically, I'm guessing you'll mostly want to play pop punk stuff that your mates will all know, and there's loads out there. Just make sure you practise. Simple songs are fine, but simple songs played badly are the things that boil my piss.
16. What's the rush? If you want to purchase in this way then just apply for a 0% credit card for however many months. Bosh.

I've got a 414 and I loved it from the moment I saw it. Unfortunately, I can't afford to keep it as a second bass and there's no way I'm selling my Aerodyne, so the BB is up for sale! If you're not interested in buying, I've just updated with more pics for you to spank your plank over. BUY ME!
18. So I've taken a few more snaps, including of the little bit of damage to the headstock. I knew it was somewhere but had to search a bit for it. Anyway... Don't want to sell it but can't afford to keep it. Looks a little bit lovely, right?
19. These are great. I've got one of the later models and I love it. Definitely worth a massive BUMP.
20.
If you are playing a fast run or whatever,if you are fuzzed out it can often hide a bum note compared to playing the same thing cleanly.
Hence my parentheses.
21. Aha! Cheers Lem. PM sent. [/blind]
22.
If someone can produce a technique compensator pedal I'll have one
I'll take two. One under my left foot for my fretting hand and one under my right foot for the picking. My board consists of tuner, equaliser, chorus and distortion. I'm by no means against effects, but these are the four that have been useful in the past. I've tried loads as I used to work in a music shop, and most of them just gave me an extra pedal to worry about without adding much to what I can bring to a song. I may bring the bassballs back into action soon though. As for whether or not you can hide poor technique with them – utter bollocks, surely? You can still hear whether someone's playing bum notes or playing lazy lines, regardless of how much fuzz (to a degree) is layered over. I'm sure there are some units that could hide shoddy playing, but they're not going to be affordable to the budding shonky player who would use them purely for that reason.
23. Hmm. Not too expensive for a random show trip. Well... Until I start wanting to buy things when I'm there, that is.
24.
IMO one of the best live bands still gigging today =)
This, although I haven't heard a lot of their new stuff. I was lucky enough to not only see them, and not only see them in Vegas, but see them in Vegas on my birthday. Good times. Love his playing.
