1. For sale SWR LA12 combo From the SWR site: Since 1984, we’ve been designing and building amplifiers for the top bassists on the planet. With the LA Series, we’ve packaged all that expertise into an amplifier line that just about anyone can afford, all equipped with serious tone and handy features for pros and beginners alike. Whether you’re buying your first amp, or looking for a cost- effective practice complement to an existing full-size rig, the LA Series represents the very best value in the market today. SWR® doesn’t sacrifice tone for price, and neither should you. All LA Series combo amps are loaded with the following features: * Classic SWR preamp with built-in Aural Enhancer™ circuitry * 1/4” post-EQ Line Out/Tuner Output * Stereo Headphone Output with automatic speaker defeat for silent practicing * Mix Input for practicing along with CD players or drum machines * Extended-depth cab design for accurate low-end response * Industrial-grade edge-mount handles for portability and durability 16”W x 16”H x 16”D, 39 lbs. It's a great little combo that does well for home practice as well as small gigs. I'm selling it on because I don't use it much now that I have a home recording set-up. It's in great condition, as new. I'm looking for £100 P.M. me with any questions or reasonable offers. I will deliver within a reasonable distance for the cost of the fuel. I can arrange a courier at cost to the buyer.
2. I can recommend the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, if you have £500 to spend then you'd be best ignoring any of the USB offerings.

EHX Voice Box

I suppose you could always get your keys or guitar player to provide the carrier and you sing into it?

EHX Voice Box

EHX Voice Box This is a bit cool, £140 on Digital Village, I'd love to try one with a bass as the carrier input.

Moog MuRF

Has anyone tried a one of these? I'm intrigued Moog MF 105B
6. Best thing to do would be try some out, you can use any rig for metal, just make sure you have the power and speakers to compete with loud high gain guitars and a noisy drummer.
7. Well, now I know...and knowing is half the battle.
8. Cheers mate, It'll sound even better on the next one, I'm engineering it!
9. SWR SM-1500 through a Goliath III and a Son of Bertha, I plan to extend it with another Goliath and Son of Bertha and run the two stacks stereo. Set up for recording. Just the 4x10 playing with Sylosis.
10. Definitely get firewire, my recording set up is based round a white macbook 2.16ghz dual core with 2gb ram. I've never found it to be flimsy, it's survived being crushed by cymbal stands and being dropped a few times too! If you want a good deal on a macbook its worth calling the sales team in Ireland, they knocked loads of money off for me and I ended up getting Logic studio for £101. One thing to remember about the RAM upgrades is that whilst Apple overcharge you, putting more in will void your applecare so don't let them persuade you to get it with the mac if you're going to change the RAM, one of my friends fell foul of this.
11. Furman Power Factor Pro I have one of these on trial and I was wondering if anyone has had much experience with them or other power conditioners and had any interesting thoughts or opinions to share. I'll hopefully be able to draw my own conclusions when I finally get some plugs that work with it. The AC outlets are in the form of Female IEC sockets and nobody makes male IEC to female UK power socket cables. Is there any reason why I shouldn't make my own? I was planning on getting the stuff from Maplin tomorrow.
12. Cheers guys, the reason why I dont like EHX pedals is that I've never had a quiet one yet, they hiss like nothing else on my board and when you stand on them they pop very loudly. It's a real shame because I'd probably just be using a bassballs for this kind of thing but I sold mine because of the noise.
13. I never found the Boss SYB-5 to track too well, I sold mine a few weeks after getting it. If you're looking for a delay, the Line6 echo park is worth trying.
14. I'm looking to get a filter or auto wah pedal, something funky with a throaty growl to it. I've been looking specifically at the MXR M-188 Bass Auto Q, has anyone here had any experiences with this pedal or could they suggest anything worth trying out? No EHX pedals please, I hate them.

T-rex

The T-Rex bass juice seems to get universally slammed on here, I had a mudhoney which was an alright pedal, really nice creamy fuzz.
16.
I have the bass in the same spot sitting down as I do standing up.
That's right on the money, there is little point in doing yourself an injury by playing very high up or very low down for the sake of looking "rock" I'm in a metal band and my bass position is fairly high up (same place as when I sit with the bass on my lap) and I have never had any difficulty "looking rock"
17. If you can stretch to £140 the Roland Bass micro cube RX is fantastic.
18. Bump and a price drop to £120, come on guys this is a bargain!
19. I have a pair of Alesis M1Active 520s, they do the job. They cost me £140 and have a fairly flat response, I've had some really good mixes out of them that have continued sounding good on crap systems! Computer music have a nice article on the accompanying DVD about buying monitors, whack something in google and I'm sure there will be a few articles too. Best thing to do would be to go and have a listen to as many as you can.
20. If anything legislation were to be passed (which is very unlikely!) people would find ways around it, just like the ban on foxhunting. This is slow news day scaremongering and some of us seem to be getting a little too worried about it.
21. TKenrick has the right idea, try doing rhythms and pitch separately. Modern Reading in 4/4 is great for the rhythms and just work on your scales round the circle of fifths for the pitch stuff. When you want to bring them together pick up some music, easy trombone music is surprisingly good to get started on.
