1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgDfSDpBZ5E Just a quick video of my band Beyond The Grave, I wrote most of this one so please tell me what you all think!
2. Metalhead here! Inspiration comes from Dan Briggs of Between the Buried and Me, James Leach of SikTh (R.I.P. SikTh) and Mark Palfreyman of Alarum in terms of people. In terms of bands, Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater, Opeth and Textures. Since becoming a seven string player I've started listening to guitarists a lot more. With regards to the eternal metal problem of clashing with guitarists, I'll just tell my two guitarists what I'm going to play and if they don't like it I'll turn up because I'm louder than they are!
3. 4x10's are what I'd recommend for more proggy rock and metal, they have the power handling, can move the air they need to and give you a nice punchy sound that suits doubling guitars and can cut through when needed.
4. I've got 1500W and I will honestly never need that much power, it's good as Muppet said for comfort headroom, it's nice knowing you've got that extra power. I bought the amp because of the features not the power, I'd be happy with 500W but I suppose it mostly depends on what you're doing, if you want to run 4 8x10s in a huge stadium then that kind of power might be useful but a small 4x10 and 1x15 stack it's perhaps a little unnecessary. They exist so there is obviously a market for them so some people deem them to be necessary and at the end of the day if you can afford it and carry it then why not?
5. Sure thing, I'll do some more pictures today. There's a certain bizzare voyeuristic quality to this forum category, I guess thats why it's called the bass porn forum! The trem is good for flutters and it gives a slightly differently quality of sound than changing pitch by sliding my fingers about. It's good for pitch bending chords too, and as Chris said it is an assload of fun! Here are the pictures (the Squier has a Fender transfer on because the old Squier one was removed by the previous owner and I was not able to get another Squier transfer.)
6. I must say I've always found them to be a bit boomy and woolly. I am a fan of bright hi-fi sounding amps. I used an Ashdown rig for quite a while and it served my purposes at the time but it just didn't have the definition and I moved on to SWR. I'm sure that with the right set up and bass they sound great, it's just not my kind of sound.
7. Cheers guys, it's flamed maple on the top. The squier is a bit of a beast, I've got 50 flatwounds on it which are far too heavy gauge so I'm waiting for some 40s in the post. I'm not sure whether or not to get it refretted, I cant imagine it being too hard seeing as it was fretted previously.
8. It doesn't seem to make much of a difference. The best way to describe it would be that when you're playing pizz you get more of the sound of your fingers on the string if you see what I mean. I think your best bet would be to check out some other basses with magnetic pickups on and see if you get the same thing.
9. Left to Right Conklin GTBD-7 7 string Overwater Progress III 5 string 36" scale Squier Precision Protone fl 5 string with Kahler Whammy and EMGs Aria SWB EUB
10. Trailer Trash Pedalboards The only option guys, I bought one recently and it's the best thing since sliced bread.

12.
Nice, where are the power leads going to?
There is a Voodoo Labs PedalPower 2 nestled snugly on the underside of the board.
13. Just bought myself a Trailer Trash pedal board (http://www.trailertrashpedalboards.com) because I'm not very good at building things. Here it is in all of it's shiny red glory!
14. It depends on what cabs you try them through I suppose and with regards to the original subject I'm sure what I might call muddy the next guy would call bright! We all hear different things so to some Ampeg may well sound punchy. Buy some SWR gilmour, buy!!!!!
15. If I'm going to spend a load of money on a nice amp I want it to colour my sound, hence the SWR. I tried a WT800 for a few weeks and I always found the tone to be a bit muddy, it was like SWR without the bright character.
16. Beyond The Grave are playing the Newcastle Academy 2 this Sunday 13th April, any metalheads out there who fancy popping down? Doors are at 7pm Tickets £5 from the Academy box office
17. These things are entirely up to personal taste but if you're looking for punchy and warm have a listen to some SWR. My experience with Ampeg has always been that it's very middly and cuts through well but it's quite harsh sound and in my opinion wouldn't serve funk too well.
18. My main axe is an Overwater Progress III 5 string with a 36" scale, my backup is a Squier Pro Tone 5 string with the frets pulled out, EMG DC soapbars put in and a Kahler 7415 tremolo bridge attached. I also have an Aria SWB EUB.
19. Replied via PM.
20. I've recently upgraded my amplifier and as such wish to sell my old one. The stack consists of an: SWR 350x 350W Tube preamp w/ 2U SKB shallow rackmount case £450 SWR Workingpro 4x10 400W 8ohm 4x10 £275 SWR Workingpro 1x15 200W 8ohm 1x15 £175 It is all in absolutely fantastic condition, the cabs are a year and a half old and the head is a year old. Lightly gigged. I'm open to offers so PM me to discuss the price or get more info and more pictures. I will deliver within a reasonable distance the North East.
21. Nice to see a fellow SWR nut!
22. I'm using a T-Rex Mudhoney, it's fantatsic. You can get screaming fuzz out of it and smooth o/d.
23. Bump, I'm open to trade offers. Pedals, basses etc.
24. Here's mine, sorry for the dark and grainy picture. I took it on my phone and the studio doesn't have very good lighting. The rig is an SWR SM-1500 with a Goliath III and Son of Bertha. According to the Fender rep I was the only person daft enough in Europe to purchase the SM-1500. 30kgs of bass joy and thats not including the sleeved rack.
25. Cheers mate, I've ordered some =)
