1.
You should go and check out Guitarchat, it's like basschat, run by the same guys and..... what's that guys? Milty's listening? Sorry, forget I said anything, it doesn't exist yet.......
*Wanders over upon hearing my name being mentioned* Hey! eh... what are... eh... what are you guys talking about? Do you, um... do you guys like pizza?
 2.
Maybe the other forums already exist and this whole thread is just a diversionary tactic
You mean, it's like when the loch ness monster is spotted just before holiday season every year?
 3.
Why not try just a slight pan or putting one in mono & putting the other on a wide stereo spread? Might be too phat a bass sound (though I don't think there's such a thing as too phat).
That could work, but I'll need to get everything else right before I'll know if it's too much or not!
 4.
The original just had a clean bass. I recorded one with effects that's never been used. Never thought about using the 2 together though!
I have them panned hard left and right. There are gaps in either one so it sounds good when used together, it's unfortunate though that only one track has effects
 5. There's also a lovely contrast between the 2 bass tracks.
 6.
The original intent was for it to be a Mix 'Competition', as opposed to a Remix Competition. Heavy on the sharing of the how you did something to make the stems available sound great, rather than replacement and reorganisiation for your own creative ends. There are still good reasons to make some arrangement changes, (normally they would be more to do with muting unnecessary things) and given the issues on the stems there is a good (unusually so) argument for drum replacement. Keep in mind the idea is to present as much as possible the performance you are given in the best light it can be, rather than turning it into an example of EDM when its supposed ot be reggae
I've added in some bass drum samples just to clean it up a little, because I found that even when you cut out all the noise picked up by the bass mic between hits, even on the hits, you can hear other things, so I'm keeping it quite low in the mix just for the tone of it, and I have a sample sitting higher up in the mix, which is a lot cleaner. Got to make it sound more reggae now! I found the bass drum was entirely lost in behind the bassy bassline!
 7.
I'm in this for this one, should be interesting. What's the deal with playing with arrangement of the tunes, cutting sections etc.. Also, adding parts? Is this purely a mixing deal or can we through some production in with it?
As far as I understand it, you can cut, remove and add what you like, so long as the song stays essentially the same. Douglas is intending to re-record the bass track as there are a couple of fluffs in it; not massive ones mind. I'll likely leave it as it is. Some of my favourite songs have mistakes in the bass track that you don't notice until you hear it in isolation.
 8.
Uh oh, I spoke too soon...
What do you mean? Were you going to have a "No Milty's allowed" stapled to the clubhouse door?
 9.
Wish I had time to do this one now OK for all those Reaper users out there, you can replace drums using the built in gate and any midi firing drum tool (or even Reasampler and a drum wav you like):- If you did this once for each drum in the kit you can get as medieval as you like to filter the drums before the gate and run off each new drum kit item to get totally clean drums to add back to what is there or replace it altogether....
That's cool! Is there any way to do that in Logic?
 10.
Thanks, we're looking at Drumchat.co.uk too. We're working with our developer now and just in the process of getting a rough estimate of the costs. We'd like them all to be a single sign-in so you can sign into any of them and use all three. As many of us play more than one instrument we thought if that's possible, it would be pretty cool. Also we're looking at updating, integrating and centralising the blog across all three sites with filterable content and the possibility for users to post their own blogs in addition to the 'official' BC/GC/DC ones... Exciting times ahead, I can't wait until the school holidays so we can start cracking on it properly!
As a guitar player, and a hopeful drummer in the future, I think it would be great if you could get that to work! I find it hard to find a good forum for guitar players, and GC sounds like it could be a good one!
 11.
Some very different challenges to the last one, Milty. This time it's less a case of 'balancing' all the different sounds and more one of 'processing' them. In particular, using parametric EQ cuts (Google!) to remove the noise in each mix stem that you don't want. Shout up if you need any tips.
TIPS! I need all the help I can get with this kind of thing! I'll download it and have a listen and then come back
 12.
Not when you have something that has been turned into a dirty great microphone in the middle of the stage.
Ah, gotcha
 13.
They use the site to launder their stash of Nazi gold that they bought from the proceeds of their saccharine smuggling business in Surbiton.
It must be a VERY slow process
 14. I'M SO OUT OF MY DEPTH THIS IS SO EXCITING!
 15.
June/July mix challenge is now up! Go here.
Yay!
 16.
How do we know they're just trying to make the forum self-sufficient? How do we know they're not working on a business plan to develop a web resource, build its value and then sell it to the highest bidder for millions, splitting the money and retiring? I don't know either way and I don't really care - it's entirely up to them - but I wonder if people would view things differently when asked to help fund a 'community' resource or help fund early retirement for a couple of entrepreneurs?
Who cares? Nobody is being asked to "help fund" the site, that's the point of paying for the adverts, so they don't have to rely on people's kind donations to run the site. I doubt they have a business plan for this site, but I don't even care if they do, unless they want me involved, for some reason.
 17.
No ta
Haha, after the 3rd time the blood soaked through the dressings, I decided to make a photo-log, and make all my Facebook friends sick
 18. £20 for an entire year's worth of ads? Bargain, if you sell a lot of stuff! This is, let's not forget, the world's second largest bass guitar forum in the world, and the largest in the EU. If you do want to sell bass gear, I can think of no better place! I've tried and failed to sell things locally, but things always seem to sell better on here, just because of the nature of the place. Ped and Kiwi know this, so why wouldn't they charge for it if they were trying to make the forum self sufficient?
 19.
Aye, the split shaft is necessary to accomodate the type of knob which is specific to the old SB's. The split shaft pots have a larger diameter of shaft, and are knurled to provide a key within the knob. The knob is held on by a small measure of tension (not a grub screw), hence the necessity for the shaft to be split.
Ah, ok! So can't you get a solid knurled one and just cut a little bit out of the middle with a very fine saw? Or get a slightly smaller solid one, and put some tape around it to provide some extra girth, hopefully giving it the tension it needs? I would doubt it would go very far if you did it that way.
 20.
Oh no I missed that....
I could show you some really gross photos if you like?
 21.
Ouch! Don't leak the red oil....
If you followed my thread while I was in hospital, or saw my Facebook, you would know that this was a VERY common occurance for a few days. I thought it had stopped *sigh* apparently not
 22. So you guys who were saying that I am a doer, and I deserve respect? Well, Peter, aka ubassman, is now driving to pick up the relay baton from BBBlackdog and drop it off to the UPS depot, as for some reason which we don't know yet, it wasn't collected this morning. I think Peter deserves our respect and admiration for his dedication, and if anybody wants to chuck a pound or 2 into the pot, we can sort him out with a nice little gift
 23.
Errr no, my avatar is Deadlock, the Grand Wizard of the Knights Martial (a group of highly intelligent robots with psychic powers), sometime A.B.C Warrior, and all round clever (if not exactly good) git.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos.... All hail Khaos....
Haha! I leaked some oil all over my new carpet last night, except it was red...
 24.
From what I've seen, there's still a healthy amount of for-sale stuff in the fora. What's definitely gone are the "feeler" ads and the really exotic stuff (the left handed, 9 string, semi-fretless Shudera an Trolembic with 7 band parametric eq, spalted truffle root top and laser etched in a paisley pattern walrus ivory fretboard).
There's a fine line between interesting and stupidly mental... that bass can't even see that line anymore
 25.
The Basschat marketplace used to be really vibrant. Some really interesting stuff came up pretty much every day, giving the site a real constant "draw". It seems now that this consistent trading has pretty much died off. Has anyone noticed this? Is it just me? Are there any other sites (apart from Talkbass) that still have an interesting marketplace? CB
It nearly seems like every marketplace is struggling now. Not just that, but sites like Facebook are on a steady decline too, as far as I have noticed. I think people are just trying to offload the stuff they don't need and hang on to the good stuff in case something really bad happens, and they need the money, or maybe they are hanging on to it until the market picks up, but it seems to be the norm everywhere. Personally, I've steered clear of the market place recently, due to lack of funds, and not wanting to fritter away whatever funds I do have, then need to buy something I actually need (which is the reason I have the money in the first place). Hopefully though, it'll pick up again
