1. If your ears not leading you to the writing the lines you want then hows your theory? Understanding how chords are put together and then the way they are related in a progression is the fundamentals of harmony. It sounds 'boring' but have a look at chord tones to get an idea of whats what. There's a reason walking bass lines work. Syncopation, when to play and when not to play is a group effort. Whats the kick drum doing, what's the melody doing. If you take a lead, the drummer should hear and follow and vice versa.
2. If you've got the active/passive push/pull volume knob, why not just constantly have it pulled out so the bass is in passive. That way its going to sound no different to putting in a passive circuit. Also afaik the treble pot will then act as a tone control. Saves money, keeps the bass intact and gives you the option to have the active circuit should you ever want it in the future?

4.
Have a look in SoundsLive. What's teh SH-01 like? I'm considering one.
Hey man, it was great and I had a lot of fun & use out of it. I mainly used it for bass parts as appose to full chordal work. The arpeggiator was great fun although never really got to use it out of the house. It was really really easy to program and build your sounds although sometimes felt a touch limited. I know it's been described as a great beginners synth for the hands on editing, which it is, but if you already have used synths & understand synthesis you can really build some great sounds on it. If you do look at it and enjoy it, I'd really recommend the computer software for it, it costs extra but IMO well worth it. Really let's you see the 3 OSC, the built n effects parameters etc... Saying all this though, I've recently let mine go & bought a Moog Little Phatty. Simply because when I tried one it blew the bass sounds on the roland out of the water. But the moog is what it is, a monophonic lead synthesiser, so only really does lead or bass. Any questions though, feel free to pm me. I've got a Juno, Nord, Novation & moog in my flat so can help out with most of the 'top' brands.
5. Spending that cruiseship money I see Sounds great though man!
6. Paying for tickets off a promoter is ridiculous. I've played a show before and was given 50 tickets to sell for a minimum of £5 (£8 written on the ticket) from this the band got £1 per ticket and the rest to the promoter. I know the venue well and know its £100 to hire on a week night with sound guy. This meant that the promoter would get about £200 per band, with 6 bands on thats a fair old profit and obviously the money the band gets paid is the pound per ticket. It's a win/win situation for a promoter. They get paid & it looks like they're popular to the venues. on the counter part, as much as its the promoters job to get people in the venue & sell tickets, it's also your responsibility to build up a fan base and bring in your own punters.
7.
That'll be Donovan Hepburn on kit then- great player. Not watched it yet but judging by FB there are some cringeworthy moments.
Yeah Hepburn was on kit. Well for the most part, Cliff Richard swapped them out for his own band. Obviously Stevie had his own bad with the amazingly gifted Nate Watts.
8. He's Gary Barlows first call guy, thist is why he was on this show & the comic relief one early on the year as both were 'organised' by Gary. As far as I can tell its the Take That band. Great player!
9. Ok guys, I've been touring with my Reidmar & classic cabs for the past 3 weeks so i thought i'd come back and leave some feedback about how it's getting on in larger venues. Every show has full FOH so the Reidmar is essentially mine & the bands bass monitor as wedges never give enough bass back to you. The good points: This thing still blows me away every single show, i've never had to have the volume past 9 o'clock & gain past 12. And this is for the entire band to hear the bass properly. Most venues it doesn't even get to 9 o'clock before its too loud. The tone is to die for, from hi-fi modern tones, to old school thumps. This thing can do it. The bad points: Just two little niggles at the moment for me but it's not the Reidmar's fault, the damn thing keeps vibrating almost off the cabs when the bass is being pushed. Anyone got any tips for this? The second is the 1x10 cabinet. Again when the bass is being pushed, the fabric grill begins to flap and hit the wooden frame in which it's attached to. Not entirely sure what to do about this yet, i've taken the plastic classic line logo off from the bottom right hand corner as it would click against the frame.

11.
Would it be cynical of me to suggest the most visual function being provided by the laptop here could be replaced by a piece of paper? Great to see a Moog, this is mainly for creating your own sounds rather than merely calling up sampled presets? (Not being cynical here, just a simple bass player!)
it wouldn't be cynical at all but as the laptop has to be there anyway it's a lot easier to see the laptop screen when the light engineer decides to black out before the next tune. As for the Moog, i'm playing for a Michael Jackson tribute tour, use it on 10 tracks. it only came thursday morning, managed to get 4 patches created before show time thursday night & last night. Then used the oscillators to do hand adjustments during the show per tune. Going to spend the weekend sorting out the rest.
12.
Can I ask what you are running on the ipad and macbook?
iPad has charts on it, MacBook has set list & patch numbers on it but I primarily there as a back up for the sampling & click track on mainstage incase the drummers fails. There's a mbox that goes to behind the drummer but wasn't set up yet.
13. New keyboard This thing sounds immense!!
14.
I'm just guessing, but you don't have children, work six days a week & also have to be primary carer for two elderly parents, do you?
I don't but I've recently finished uni & making a living playing music. This keeps me on top of my game no matter how busy I am. My point was that if you've only it 15 minutes, using this technique you can get real work done. The op asked about people's practice routine do I offered a suggestion for busy people.
15. 1 pair of DT100's for sale. In good condition, £65 posted. They have a 1/4" Stere Jack plug on them with a straight cable. Selling to build up some funds. I'll add a picture tomorrow when i've got daylight.
16. £30 + Delivery. I'll get a picture up tomorrow when there's some light.
17.
Jake - nice and tidy dude. And practical!
I've got a bit of OCD for messy cables.
18. Picked up a new key board so letting this one go to free up some funds. It's about 6 months old, in mint condition & updated with the latest firmware. Still got all the original packaging. Comes with the roland branded case. Also comes with Rolands Gaia Sound Designer software but for Mac only. (Worth £100) It's in mint condition and has been a great keyboard with really great sounds coming from it, i just can't afford to have 2 keyboards around. If buyer collects from Manchester i'll throw in a Quiklok single brace stand. Looking for £375 + postage.
19. Just waiting for the power & a couple more connectors to arrive so i can finish it off. The right hand side is for the bass & the left for the synth. Along the top will go, Input A - Input B - Bass DI out - Bass Out - Synth L in - Synth R in - Synth L DI out - Synth R DI out. It's not the most exciting board but it's an essential one for me. EBS Microbass --> Mini Polytune --> Morley Mini Volume --> Micro Thumpinator. The other side is just a stereo volume & stereo DI.
20. If i lived in Ireland i would buy that in a heart beat. I was there last weekend just up the road, gutted i didn't know about this. If anyones visiting Ireland anytime soon up north let me know and maybe we could sort something
21. Have a look at snare drum pattern tuition books and practice with a metronome. Drum machines have too much going on in them that you can hide behind. Once you get more comfortable starting slowing down the tempos, having a click on just 2 & 4, a click on every first beat of a bar and then 1 click every 4 bars. This forces you to have good time and leaves you with nowhere to hide. Start slowly and don't try too much at once.
22. Cab wise, i'd personally go for a 410 & 210. So you've got the option for small size, medium sized & large sized rig.
23. Just bought Martins pedal board. From initial email and collection was less than 3 hours. Don't hesitate to deal with
24.
I've now joined you in being the chuffed owner of a dual Mono gig bag - the M80! The quality is absolutely superb, throughout the entire product. It's not over-big, and yet feels like it has protection and storage to spare. I feel like a wally now for contemplating something else. Brilliant product And two basses... why I thought this was indulgent, I'll never know. At the very least I'll never be caught out like a twat if I have an issue playing live, and at the most I'll have some options if I want different instruments to mix things up. Recommended
Awesome news, they really are great bags.
