1.
Best jazz colour way no doubt. Drooooolllllllll!
Thanks! Yes, my fave colour combo, too - already starting to question the wisdom of selling it!
2. For sale only: 2010 Fender American Standard Jazz, olympic white, rosewood board, tort pickguard. More pix here: http://s1333.photobu.../slideshow/Jazz I'm a new BC seller so don't have a seller feedback page for you yet, but it may help to know that I bought this bass from Basschat stalwart Phsycoandy in Sept 2012 - the original ad is still viewable here: http://basschat.co.u...udes-hard-case/ [EDIT: this link now seems to be defunct - sorry about that, and thanks to 'thebuckets' for pointing this out.] As can be seen from the photos (and as mentioned in the previous ad), it has a few bumps, dents and dings, but these are not easily visible while playing and have absolutely no bearing on quality or playability. On the contrary, it's a lovely player - I treated it to a pro set up courtesy of the excellent Andy at Guitar Spares and Repairs here in Birmingham shortly after buying it, so action is now super low and really easy to play. In all other respects it is exactly the same as when I bought it - in fact it has never even left the house, let alone been gigged, since the day it arrived. Which is a shame, really, as it sounds proper awesome. Weight is just over 9lbs, so right in the sweet spot for a Jazz. It comes with the fantastic SKB Fender hard case and all the tools, and it has a fresh set of 45-105 nickel roundwounds on. £525 couriered to your door, or £500 if you come and pick up in person. BCers are of course welcome to come to South Birmingham to try before buying. I'm happy to post overseas, but postage costs will be higher, and you will have to sort out your own insurance arrangements. Payment by cleared bank transfer or cash on collection only. No trades, please.
3. Correct decision, Hutton! As Steff says, it would be nice to have 2x2, but if you only have one J and one P, and want some versatility in your sounds, then I would always put roundwounds on the Jazz, and flats on the Precision. Nickel roundwounds, right?
4. Entlrely agree with posts above - the 'new' SKB case (if the rumours are correct) is going to have to be very, very good indeed to beat the 'old' one.
5. I bought Andy's olympic white USA Fender Jazz way back in September 2012. Being a total noob at the time, I did not know about the BC seller feedback forum so did not post any feedback then. A year and a bit older, and a little wiser, I am posting this now to belatedly confirm what everyone else above has already said. Andy is a total gent, who guided me extremely patiently through the whole process - I had never bought anything via BC before, and the workings of the UPS courier service were entirely new to me at the time. (I did say I was a noob!) The Jazz turned up bang on time, was exactly as described (i.e. "lovely"), and was in a hard case so thoroughly swaddled in bubble wrap that you could have dropped it off a tall building without damaging the contents even slightly. Buy with confidence, and big up Andy!
6. Here's the jaw-dropping Mr Bubby Lewis demoing a CRB5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX-QghArVVo
7. Yeah, can't go wrong with a decent 2ndhand P-bass, if you want 2ndhand, and as long as you try before you buy. But if it doesn't have to say 'Fender' on the headstock, you could consider getting a really excellent brand new instrument that is very well suited to the sounds you are into: the MTD Kingston CRB. You can get one for £429 from Bass Direct. That's a hell of a lot of bass for the money there.
8. Yup - Sandberg, no brainer. Bass Direct has some absolute peaches for sale right now, my favourite being this: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Sandberg_TT4_HCA_Roq.html
9.
He looks like my Dad, circa 1970
He looks like me, circa 1970! OK I exaggerate a bit - I was only six at the time - but I'm pretty sure I had a pair of very similar specs then.
10.
Lets Rock! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-ZEDNkZ2L4
Bloody hell! Memory Lane! And on a Saturday morning, as well! Thanks for that, Billy Apple - made my day, there!
11.
this'll wake you up. astonishing playing.
The drummer is rocking those glasses!
12. Tort ... or how about white pearloid? Looks very nice on the Hamburglar Precision currently up for sale here: http://basschat.co.u...19945-l475-ono/
13. If money were truly no object, you could do both!
14.
I can wholheartedly endorse Dr T on this . All Music Man basses have got massive bottom end - including the single pickup Stingray- but the more recent models have got a low end response that has a deeper dimension than most other basses on the market . The bass on my Reflex HH is huge , as is that on the Bongo HH, . The HSS and SSS available on some basses configurations are probably even deeper , so if you dig the really low stuff , EBMM is the way to go .
Agreed. The bassiest frequencies from my single humbucker EBMM SR4 are truly trouser-flapping, but with clarity to match - not muddy at all. Killer bottom end.
15. Lovely colour combo, and a billy bargain price!
16. As others have said above, it doesn't necessarily follow that big hands = thick neck, or small hands = thin neck, for that matter. Actually, I'm not even sure that you need to 'take sides' on the thick vs thin question at all. My MIJ Jazz has a very slim neck profile, and my Stingray has a pretty chunky one, but I love playing both, and don't find either of them any easier or more difficult to play - I just see these differences as part and parcel of the 'personalities' of these two instruments, and I've always enjoyed the challenge of adapting my playing style to suit whatever bass it is I happen to be playing at the time.
17. Thanks, TRBboy and ezbass. Talking of black hardware, I did toy with the idea of swapping the chrome hardware on the fretless for black for a while, but that urge to spend unnecessary money on a purely (and possibly futile)cosmetic exercise seems to have faded away now, thankfully! But I will own a bass with black hardware at some point - maybe my next Sandberg!
18. If money were no object, I'd use my unlimited funds to attempt to buy Bernard Edwards' Stingray from John Taylor. If he refused to sell at any price, then I'd settle for an MTD 635-24.
19.
Here's my twins. Fender Steve Harris P Bass (2010, added SPB-4 Steve Harris pickups and graph tech black tusq nut) and a Westfield P Bass that's been, ahem, slightly modified (CTS pots, SPB-1 pick up, graph tech black tusq nut and of course a mirrored pick guard). Fender straps with scarf sock covers too.
Lovely ... but what's with the Leeds Utd socks? Should be West Ham, surely?!
20. My California TM fretless: As tight a neck pocket as I've ever seen on a Jazz-style bass: Normally I prefer gloss finishes on Fender-style basses but this satin job has really grown on me - and much to my surprise seems to be more durable - not a sign of buckle rash on the back! Oh, and by the way, it sounds fantastic ...
21. Hey, TRBboy! Just catching up with this thread and was looking at your post of 5th September, and thinking 'great specs, but wrong choice of hardware - black would be much nicer with the cherryburst' - and then reading on and lo and behold you went with the black! Excellent choice! This bass is going to be a thing of beauty and wonder. Please show pics when it arrives!
22.
I'm surprised you think the Squier/Fenders have narrow string spacing, they are some of the chunkiest 5ers around. Definitely avoid Yamaha and Ibanez if you want a chunky neck.
+1
