1.
You will not be disappointed - it is absolutely fantastic. One of THE best ever films about music.
I am no Motown junkie, but the DVD of "Standing in the Shadows" is my favourite all time rockumentary and I watch it again every few months. You don't even have to be in to the Motown hits (in which case you are a sterile robot) to appreciate the wonderous story of the musicians, their lives, and the history of it all. The Funk brothers are great (that tambourine playing is jaw dropping) and seeing Bob Babbit and James Jamerson in this, should be made compulsory for BC membership. I ain't too proud to beg in front of these giants.
2. Now on eBay folks http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=010
3. I'm starting to wonder about selling my killer kidney bean and FBV Shortboard. I'm just not using them much these days. Not even sure what they are worth.

5.
Yeah, I just learned to live with the dive, it really didn't bother me at all after a while. All this talk of TBs, it's making me want another one!!
Buy mine! Seriously (coming back on topic) I started with the Epi and then moved on to the Gibson. I defy anyone to play both and not agree that there is a genuine difference. Whether that difference is enough to justify the difference in cost is another thing. But having the right badge does help in the Feel Good stakes. Like, riding a Jap chopper and wondering what a real Harley is like. One thing's for sure. Buy used. A gibson will keep its value, and if you buy-use-sell, the real cost is negligble.
6. Well, I'm up for a ride sometime, when the weather suits. Softail Standard (2006). Could be a new topic ...Basschat Bikers Club of Great Britain ...members sought!
7.
i thinking of selling my J-Retro-as below (bass not included ) yes it was a G.A.S. attack-but TBH i'm a blues player really so i don't need it-i think it's only 6 months old & cost me £175.00 so i'm wanting as much as possible back, £120.00 sounds fair to me-but i'm open to offers. i can arrange postage if needed as i still have the box, fitting instructions & packaging it came with. 'tis a bargain 'tis
How weird. I've just bought a used J-retro via BC last week, and I'm in Harrogate too! It has done wonders for my jazz fretless, and £120 is a fair price. Sadly, this pre-amp does not fit my aerodyne, otherwise I'd be a customer.
8. And here's a pic, with many more available.
9. Bingo! What a site. Thank you Dood for the link!
10. I'm pleased to have enjoyed watching Norman play with Wilko on the Hampsters Mad, Bad & Dangerous tour at the Irish Centre, Leeds ...one of my favourite gigs of recent years. Norm joined the Blockheads in '76 and New Boots & Panties became my favourite album of '78. I never got to see the Blockheads then, but I did see Mr Dury with Kilburn & The High Roads, at the Nags Head, High Wycombe, just before Ian got together with Chaz Jankel. Oh, and come to think of it, I saw Chaz play a couple of times in the mid 70s with Byzantium. I met them at a gig in Oxford, and realised they were playing in my home town the next saturday night. They wanted to watch the FA Cup final somewhere, so I offered them my parent's house (in those days pubs didn't do footie on TV). Sadly, they didn't come, but if they had, I might have had a chance of an audition for the Blockheads (lol). Fortunately, for the world, Norman Watt-Roy got the gig! I hope his solo album surfaces soon.
11. I use a handy chord book for 4-string bass, but would love one for 6-string. I've googled and can't find anything. Anyone know of one please?
12. The first time I got this message (yesterday) about my Thunderbird (on eBay), I thought it was genuine and politely responded. However, I've just had a second message from a different identity, but it had the same wording, though a different web link. The message reads:
Hello, I am very interested in your item, but I have some doubts, as I have seen another eBay member, selling the same item as yours. I think he might have stolen your pictures and description. Please take a look and let me know what's going on. You can still see the item here ...(web link to a page that asks for your eBay User name & Password)
So watchout!
13. Just looked at the Tech website. The 1x10 and 1x12 are candidates. Where can you buy them from?
14. This has been a useful thread for me, as I seek a very light cab for using with my 'quiet band' (5 piece, with drums, but playing original semi-acoustic/soft rock/jazz). I tried an Epiphani UL-110 in the Bass Gallery, and was duly impressed. However, in this thread, the GK 112 MBX has come to my attention. On paper, the GK is more appealing: Price:EPI £340/GK £229 Weight: EPI 22 pounds/GK 16 pounds Theoritcaly, the GK would be sufficiently loud enough for me, as I would use it for monitoring, and D.I. in to the P.A. So my friends, I'd value any of your insight that may influence my decision.
15. I use a luther in Ripon for help with my guitars, and suggest you get his views. Jim Fleeting Guitars Shop: 01765 607761 Mobile: 07792 457 741 web: www.guitarrepairman.co.uk www.jimfleetingguitars.com [email protected]
16. I've lowered the reserve by a hundred quid, as the auction nears its climax. Please give this Ace Bass a good home!
17. Could I tempt you in to swapping it for cash and a Line6 Lowdown 150 combo by any chance?
18. Yes, I think the custom commission sounds good, given your budget freedom. Find a good luther and give him your exact brief and you should end up with a great bass. I use Jazz basses and had a 4-string FNA Jazzman. I loved the warwick sound but found the neck to be 'soul less'. I aspire to commissioning a super jazz to be built one day! PS The Funkmeister 5-string super jazz reviewed in the most recent Bass Guitar Magazine, looks tasty.
19. I got a well-worn red XB-6OO off eBay recently and am delighted with it. It needed a good bit of set-up (two truss rods) but thankfully Jim is a six-string bass player & luther, so he did a nice job (here's his link http://www.guitarrepairman.co.uk/). I reckon its a good starting point, but I can see myself wanting to upgrade to something finer eventually. For me, the Washburn's string spacing is a little to close. £275 is the right price, due to its condition.
20. Having seen both threads, I'm amazed how some like 'em and some don't. Mine is a black, no scratch plate (is that export or not?). It is now my main bass for my covers band because as well as feeling good, it has a great variation in tone because of the P & J pickups. I play with a pick and a bright tone, and the pickups are great. My only problem experienced with it is that I had to have extra shielding put in because of the earth hum, which was noticeable when recording in to my home studio. Other than, I'm really pleased with my Aerodyne!
21.
For sale is my East J-Retro active pre-amp. *THE BASS IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE* Specs are here: http://www.east-uk.com/jrhome.htm Here it is installed in my Jazz. I put some Lindy Fralin pups in her & they sound so nice passive that I'm thinking it's a waste, plus I need the cash for an upright. I've been a good Dougal and not soldered, but instead used some PC connectors (available at Maplin) so it is as good as new. I'm in Surbiton, but will post (UK domestically only) for cost (?probably about a fiver?).
Yes, I'm interested in your East pre-amp. Do you think it would be suitable to put in to my fretless Jap Jazz? The pick ups are factory fitted (in early 1980's) and have only just been re-magnetised, so I'd like to keep 'em.
22.
I know that this may not be the perfect place to put this but I thought it might be worth asking. I have a 12 year old absolutely mint condition, virtually never played with neither a mark or blemish on it USA Fender Stratocaster that sits in my wardrobe year after year doing nothing. It is a Fender 50th anniversary ( not to be confused with the stratocaster 50th anniversary ) model in cream with matching cream headstock which appears to be quite rare ( not sure if that adds any value ) I got round to thinking that I would be better of exchanging it rather than selling it so I thought I would put this on the forum and you just never know someone may just have a lovely Jazz or Precision that they want to move on as it is doing nothing and they are looking for a very tasty, stunning sounding perfect condition strat. Obviously if anyone is interested I will put some pics on the site Tony
Hi. I can see an outside chance of a tryst here. I sent you a PM.
23. Excellent combo. Built so well, and great chorus FX. The Line6 website has got all the spec. I've had it for a couple of years, and despite using it for dozens of gigs, it is in great condition. My only beef is that it's so solid it takes a bit of effort to carry. Hence I'm looking to go micro silly and light (gotta sell my Thunderbird and this first though!). I'm in no hurry to sell (It's also my practice amp at home) but will let it go for £175 on Basschat (as there's no advertising cost). I'd rather not ship it though. If you can't make it to Yorkshire, let me know where you live, as I do get about in the course of work (usually only in England) and may be able to deliver/rendezvous. Pics available in order to prove condition. Otherwise it looks the same as on the manufacturer's website!
