It just has one PP3 battery in the bass and the same in the pedal. I'll keep on with it and see how much we like each other.

Just got delivered, a used Sub Octave Plus. Not even got it out of its box yet, but noticed a sticker on the box about it not being suitable for an active bass. Ooops, that's what I bought it to use it with! Is there any use in keeping it? If I plugged in my J-Retro's Jazz Bass, will the sky fall down? Answers on a virtual postcard please.

Bring a book, newspaper, laptop, or whatever keeps you quietly occupied when its not your turn. Also, if you need batteries in anything, check 'em before you go. i also recommend a thermos flask & water bottles. And turn your mobile off! Break a leg

Perhaps it's something to do with my early days of being in awe of 'real' basses (i.e. not poor copies), for when I see a jazz with block pearl inlays on a rosewood fretboard I go weak at the knees. Can anyone tell me when they were introduced and then dropped? Hope this isn't hijacking your thread, but I'm impressed with the respondents knowledge on Fenders.

Trying out by buying is fine, but much more cost-effective if going for 'previously Owned'. I get the old GAS like most, but I really try to buy Used, so if it doesn't work out, then I can move things on at more or less what I paid. Not only Used but also Top Brand. I have had some really nice old basses etc. that after a year or two I have sold for practically no difference. It's like having really cheap rental deals.

I'm "in between" tuners right now. I need one. I used to use a Korg that had L.E.D.s until it grew legs. At home, I click on www.get-tuned.com which gives you an audio reference.

Check out Fender Aerodyne Jazz Basses. Mine feels light, and maybe a used one will fit your budget.

I have long been an admirer of the fretless bass playing of [b]Richard Sinclair[/b], since his Caravan days, and most especially with Hatfield And The North. He also sang in a kind of fretless style too! [i]Very Canterbury[/i]. He then joined Camel. He always seemed to use the same natural bodied Jazz Bass. Try finding him pictured with a different one! I wanted to know more about it, as I was after a fretless and fancied getting something like it. Three years a go, I emailed his website and to cut a long story short, I ended up buying his early 80s Fender fretless JB (photo below) that he had bought in Japan whilst on tour. Better still, I met him in London to collect it and got to try out his original which turned out to consist of an ash body made by his dad! It is a bit beaten up, but is a much better instrument since [url="http://www.guitarrepairman.co.uk/"]Jim Fleeting[/url] gave it a seeing to. I’ve now added a J-Retro.

Seems Genz-Benz have a riot on their hands, as the Shuttles are getting feverish reviews and GB are struggling with supplying the equally feverish demand. The one I ordered over a month a go, is not going to be in my hands in time for this Saturday's gig. Carelessly, my spare amp was sold recently to help pay for it! Anyone local with an amp I can borrow for this Saturday please? It's for my semi acoustic band, so it doesn't have to be very powerful. I will be using my fretless JB with a J-Retro pre-amp, so an Active input choice would be useful. The cab is a Schroeder 1210 4ohm. We are doing it as a freebie for a new pub that's starting out with live music, so hiring is out. If you can help out but are wondering if you'll see your amp again, I dare say I can leave you with something of equal value as collateral (a nice bass for example). I live in Harrogate and will happily pick up & drop back promptly. Ta.
