  1. Got a gorgeous sound from the Marshall DBS. I was playing a Harley Benton fretless jazz direct into the amp, no effects at all. Gain up high, full on valve preamp, mid heavy EQ, deep button in but bright out and an Ashdown 15" cab. This then DI'd to our 1400w Mackie Thump sub. Delicious sound, lots of character from the fretless coming though. Given a bit more time I'd like to properly A/B this with my ABM600. I don't know if the Marshall is giving me something the Ashdown can't...
  2. It won't be too exciting... It's the singer's kids school fund raiser and we are a guitarist down so doing his old acoustic set from years back but with a bit of accompaniment from me and our drummer. Loads of new songs and an excuse to go fretless though so I'm happy.
  3. I've just got the head back from a service (it took ages due to other work he had going on but I was prepared for that). I've plugged in my fretless to noodle about before a gig on Sunday. Impressions now.... The fan is still a lot louder than my Ashdown ABM 600 but this isn't for quiet bedroom practice so I'm not bothered. There is more volume now since the service, hurrah. I asked him to check the valve because I wasn't noticing anything by cranking up the valve side of the pre amp, he says the valve is fine. Well. I've got gain on max and and I'm fully on the valve side of the pre and what I'm noticing is a good warmth to the sound when dialling from solid state to valve. I was expecting it to be more like the Valve drive on my Ashdown but it isn't, because it's not a drive function. I really like the EQ flexibility on this and the compressor is handy. I am yet to try it with anything other than a passive fretless jazz bass but I would expect using my Stingray with a pick will bring demons out the speaker. Using my Darkglass overdrive and or fuzz would also probably sound stupendously good. Until I have tried that I will restrain myself from comparing this to my ABM 600.
  4. While I see what you mean... It's cheaper for me to buy a vinyl reissue of Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain than it is to get a decent picture of the album cover to go on my office wall. Mad, isn't it?
  5. I think you need to experiment with where you position it and really only get one of you think you need it. I've lost mine and haven't bothered looking for it. It made a small difference but mostly not needed for the music I play.
  6. Andertons did a good video comparing a few including the Warwick and Jack Casady. The Jack Casady came out on top in their review, but if thinking of buying a semi hollow I'd watch that just for how the sound compares with different pickup configs.
  7. Free to the taker. Will even post. This motley assortment of strap buttons is up for grabs.
  8. £5 posted. One standard knob, one concentric. The standard knob has a little indentation to help you keep track of where it has been twisted to.
  9. £5 posted. One standard knob, one concentric.
  10. £5 collected or £8 posted in the UK It comes with screws!
  11. £100 collected, £120 posted. Nice little monitor with a mic stand type arrangement. Really good for full band mix or just vocals so you can hear enough to get your harmonies right. Really good little box, only used a handful of times. Always kept in a case and well looked after. Comes with stand, manual and kettle lead. *Dog not included in sale.
  12. I ditched the stomp a few years ago and have been using various individual pedals since. I just found the Stomp mind blowing for how much it could do but I was barely using 1% of it's capability.
  13. Well, we are all different but I went from GT10-B to HX Stomp, separates for a good few years, now going to the Boss ME90-B.
  14. £5 including UK postage. The grey cable is approx. 15cm long and the black cables are approx. 10cm.
  15. Gone in 6 minutes... Pending payment. 6 Harley Benton Pro5 gold plated flat patch cables. Used for a short while, no longer needed (multi FX incoming). £3.50 each new or get the bundle for £12 including UK postage.
  16. Hardly used, had it as a stop gap while I bought a bigger power supply. More pedalboard stuff coming up.
  17. I think a lot of people like the idea of being in a band and the attention they get by joining one. They just don't like doing the hard work to stay in the band and cause drama or bail out before their lack of skill and commitment is exposed. They probably spend more time telling new band mates about their expensive gear than rehearsing too.
  18. For daisy chaining the power along your 9v pedals. £10 posted in the UK. Pics tomorrow.
  19. There's a GT10-B on eBay at £159 or best offer. I have no affiliation to the seller, etc.
  20. @glassmoon my new Boss unit won't arrive until late this month so I've not bothered looking at the software yet, unfortunately. What I like about the ME-90B is the knobs and dials, easier to tweak those than mess around in digital menus, I don't have the patience to learn all of that. I found my Helix made me spend more time experimenting with sounds than actually playing bass, most likely my own lack of discipline than anything else but even so, I'm expecting a much more intuitive experience with the ME90-B.
  21. I'm in the same boat, had one... Maybe I bought yours?! Sold it... Now going to the new ME-90B. I loved the preset sounds on the GT10-B but found the programming overwhelming.
  22. Song: I predict a riot, Kaiser chiefs Band: the desert penguins Venue: the great British food festival (yes, really!!) Bass: US Fender jazz
  23. Has anyone got there's in some kind of hard case? My old GT10-B was in a flight case and I want to do something similar for when my ME90B eventually arrives towards the end of July but finding it a bit of a minefield to buy the right thing. Ideally I want a hard case where I can mount the pedalboard in the thin "base" and cut out foam in the "lid" to keep it snug when cased but ready to go quickly once placed on the floor and the top taken off. I don't know if that makes any sense at all.
  24. I sold my Jack Casady, posted it last night. Probably lost £200-£250 in money as well as a beautiful bass. But, the chap who bought it claims to have met Mr Casady himself a few times and seems incredibly excited about receiving the bass, so at least I know it's going to be cherished. I'll miss it, but realistically I wasn't using it enough to justify keeping it, and I can now buy a decent new washing machine with the money.... It sucks being sensible.
  25. Wow. Looks absolutely perfect. Great result.
