  1. My latest Gumtree adventure... He blocked my number before the last message got sent. Obvious scam.
  2. I think it kind of is around and about but in pedals and not onboard the instrument. My 10plus year old boss bass pedal had effects to make a rosewood board sound like maple, passive sound like active, single coils sound like humbuckers... The effects processing is out there, am sure someone could make a Helix patch that makes a precision sound like a Stingray. I just don't think the instrument needs it onboard because of this. With a guitar I think it "translates" easier, visually and practically, to have the acoustic body emulating an electric rather than a bass. However I would be happy if they made one, it could be a collectors item!
  3. Updated images showing RH nut and RH fret markers on the lefty neck, plus the bit on the fingerboard I wasn't happy with first time around.
  4. Guitarguitar offered me £200 trade in for a bass I just sold privately on Reverb for £350. I could have negotiated up or held out for more, or even sold for more if I was prepared to ship overseas. Being left handed its harder to find your target market quickly, I like Reverb but always try BC first because you can trust the other members.
  5. Expecting this to be surplus before it's ever been used. I bought this from Jinwan based on recommendations here. They sent me a natural maple P bass neck with rosewood board, binding and block inlays. However, I'd ordered one painted black, so not chuffed. I've now got an actual Fender neck on order so expect this to be surplus. And rather than a lefty neck it's a "reverse" headstock right hander, with a right handed nut and dot markers for a right hander. There were some minor issues with the neck which I'll add pictures of but they are very minor. Some small marks on the Finger board up the dusty end and one of the tuner holes in the headstock looks about half a mm out of line. However, the neck generally feels and looks good quality and I would have been very happy to use it despite these minor issues.
  6. This is my approach. I think vintage basses are a real minefield. Even having bought one to fix up its been a frustrating experience. Instead I "invested" in a bass that I will gig and in time may have maintained its value. Am thinking the same with some of the latest Fenders with their nice colours, perhaps they will be worth something later but I wouldn't be shy about gigging them now or letting my kids have a go on them.
  7. There's a lefty Charvel on ebay that looks awesome. I'm assembling a PJ and have considered an 80s rock neck, so I can't justify it, otherwise I'd be throwing in offers!
  8. Just the other day I put up a question about recording and videoing. Had a personal message with "give us a call if you like" and a mobile number. This is a member I have purchased from once and we interact on some threads but that is a level of kindness and helpfulness beyond the norm.
  9. Great! I was firmly in the "do not want" camp bit they do a PJ with a J body so....
  10. Has to be the first option. I'm making/ assembling a Fender style bass with a black neck, if the supplier send me the right one eventually... What colour is your Fender decal? White, gold or cream? It stands out nicely there.
  11. BACK UP FOR SALE! Probably losing money here and offering out an insane bargain. Won't bore you with the details of why this has been up and down and up again, suffice to say the bass has had some work done it since last time so I felt it was worth a new thread. I've done a video demo to show the bass and talk abut about it, see here: https://youtu.be/V4Isg3Y18v4 I've also done another: Happy for local pickup or can send by a reliable courier (APC). Prefer UK Sale only considering the recent complications for international deliveries. Listed elsewhere at a higher price because of fees and people always making lowball offers!
  12. Your guess is as good as mine. I can point them to plenty of video of me playing rock and soul with a band and an audience, even more audio.
  13. So... A band wants me to do a video audition. Everything I have on video is not in their style, I need to show I can play metal. They don't want a pro recording per se but I cant do their suggestion of recording on my phone me jamming along to something, I've just been told off by the wife for the noise made! I can record bass direct to my laptop easily, but I need to merge that with video and a backing track. What's the easiest way? I've got a 4 channel mixer so I could get all audio recorded in to the PC I think, its just adding the video...
  14. May 2018 we played outside a pub under a gazebo with actual thunder and lightning through part of the gig. Which would have been cool if we were a metal band and had proper outdoor electrical supply.
  15. It's every man for himself at outdoor gigs... My rig wears a medium.
  16. I should add, the RM Head goes easily in a laptop bag with cables. Put that over your shoulder and you can carry an RM cab in each hand. Just make sure you go sideways though doors.
  17. I've only used the RM cabs with it. I've got a 1x15 that has been uprated to 500w and a standard 2x10. When I was running two 15s it was the uprated one plus a standard one. At home I just have the 500 head with the 2x10 cab, though its sat on the 15 I'm letting it rest until its needed.
  18. It's a really good versatile amp, I find. I use it with mids boosted for fretless playing, have started experimenting with a light bit of drive recently too whereas I was pretty much using it as an in-your-face effect instead of just a little ingredient to help the mix. I always preferred the sound of mine with 2x 15s rather than a 2x10 plus 1x15. There was a lot more depth and roundness from that cab combination I found.
  19. Me too. I've got too many basses. Bought a "year of birth" bass that needed a lot of work, and now that's done it's a very good bass, it's just not as good as others I have. I need to clear out two basses, finish the self assembly I started months back, then see where things are. I do want another bass but I've not made up my mind what and nothing is in stock right now anyway. I may even call a custom builder but my heart isn't in it right now. I am happy with my amp setup even though I keep looking up Trace Elliot and Marshalls, and I sold off all my effects and replaced with a Helix Stomp which is a great piece of kit. Really I need to practice more rather than agonize over stuff I don't fully want to buy!
  20. Love the Pelham blue! Am considering putting a lefty on order. A few issues though... All the issues mentioned in this thread, plus I've never tried one, and you can order one but the retailers have zero clue when Gibson/ Epiphone will deliver to them. So I could put down a deposit now and wait. And wait. And wait. I'm not very good at waiting.
  21. £70 plus postage if you buy this morning, I'm already off to the postie this afternoon so would like to get this one posted out too
  22. The video comes across as "I'm more clever than you" but then discusses something incredibly basic. What's funny is it is boring presentation, taking over 7 minutes to tell someone else how not to be boring with only one major point being made which let's face it is very weak, not interesting or insightful. Contrast his video with Scott Devine's and its worlds away in terms of engaging presentation. There's also a million ways you can talk about being "more interesting" in terms of what you play on your instrument, not how you look, and if the content were like that there may only be two pages of scoffing and not four.
  23. Yeah, they are very good. I particularly like that you can add a click track to play along with, or your backing track, but you can get it to only record your bassline/ guitar part. This is 2x bass tracks and a handful of guitar tracks all recorded using the Blackstar as an interface to Audacity.
