  1. Primus, Zappa, Kills witch Engage, Five Finger Death Punch, anything jazz based like Miles Davis or Weather Report/ Jaco scares off the Mrs. The kids generally love metal (both are under 4) and I used to sing them to sleep with NIB.
  2. So I don't know if this has been covered at all or if its considered too obvious. I don't want to bother reviewing the amp because for bass it's pretty straightforward. There are three quite limited effects you can add, two amp types that aren't wildly different, but bass reproduction is good and using the Insider software makes tweaking the effects and saving presets nice and easy. I've got "better" kit but just knocking about with some mates we decided to record a song. The software can give you a click track to play along to but what I found really smart was that I was able to use Songsterr through a Web browser and have the backing track play through the BEAM while I chugged along on bass and my Audacity program recorded the bass line I was playing only. Pretty smart I think, does exactly what you want it to. I could do all that without reading any instructions whatsoever. I recorded a p bass with the amp sim, then a fretless using some light chorus and delay, then a Stingray with amp sim only. Overall I'm impressed. For electric guitar it will be even better. What I need to try next is using my own effects before the amp to see how it handles external effects. I have a Boss GT10B which I always expected to be using for my recording as amp sim and effects but the ability to hear everything at once through the BEAM is really neat. For £150 it's pricey as a small amp unless you want to use it for guitar, acoustic and recording, as well as a handy Bluetooth speaker. It will never be the best recording device, bass amp, guitar amp, etc. on its own but as an all in one package I'm really pleased.

  3. Being carried in to the good the bad and the ugly theme tune would create some dramatic tension...
  4. Interesting... There's one just come on Reverb yesterday based in London for £500....
  5. I know what you mean! The whole riff library seems to be out of stock the one moment you want to be trying them all!
  6. Yeah, that was sort of my point. I'm in no way criticising Sandbergs BTW... The Sandberg P+MM I played at the bass show a few years back is probably the best instrument I've ever played.
  7. For me it needs to be an older style bass to wear the roadworn look best, like a P a J or a Gibson bass, not something too modern with a design that hasn't been around long enough to get the wear, just my personal opinion. I also see Sandbergs and think they all look the same in wear patterns, someone earlier mentioned the Flea Jazz, that bugs me too. I want roadwear to be unique to the bass. My old MIM Jazz had a poly finish but had been poorly treated by a previous owner. While it was a great playing bass I'd carry it without a case most the time, let the strings drag on the body when I swapped them out, didn't cover up a hole drilled through the headstock, etc etc to let it take on a life of its own. It even had a bit of chrome finish from the giant bridge ashtray flake off which added to its world-weary appearance. I smashed the bottom in to the floor in a fit of punkness in protest at being asked to wind up early in a sh!thole practice room and had to reset the strap button but left the bare wood where the paint had come off in big chunks, the wear was encouraged but never forced, though I was tempted.
  8. That calls for the Jimmy Carr response: "I'm trying to work here. I don't come round your workplace and knock all the sailors' Cox out your mouth, do I?!"
  9. Thank you!
  10. Does anyone know the technical name for the size of USB port in the Blackstar BEAM, please? I don't have a cable that fits it and need to order one but don't want to go "lucky dip" on Amazon! Thank you!
  11. Nice looking Westone Thunder 1A has come up on ebay at what looks like a good bid price, I have no association with the seller, I just like the idea of having one of these... Can't seem to copy a link... Anyway, it's on ebay under left handed basses right now.
  12. Kick-start my Heart by Motley Crue.
  13. Lovely jazz bass 😍
  14. Good point! It made a subtle difference to my bass. I've not played many MIM Jazzes but just think I either got lucky with a good one or just had a good bond with it. Your MIJ will be a lot better. Personally I wouldn't want odd pickups in a bass so would swap them out but there's a huge amount of replacements to choose from. Bartolinis don't have the exposed pole pieces so don't look authentic. The ones I had sounded good but to me never screamed "70s" so I guess it's just down to what you think sounds good for you. If you go online there's loads of sound clips. If you wanted it all to be authentic 60s then Fender 60s reissues may be good?
  15. I've got an oddity of a bass that doesn't fit most standard gig bags but does go in to the thomann deluxe leather gig bag, I'd bet that can hold a thunderbird.
  16. I really like his playing on record but that was not a patch on Guy Pratt for entertainment value, sound quality, and instructional ability. Also found his accent and way of talking really grating, but he's been living in LA for however long. He says he was 16 in 1976 making him 60 this year... I'd like to look that good when I'm errrr 36!!! 🤣
  17. Looks like a prop from Blakes 7. I kinda like it but would in no way want to have one for anything other than decoration.
  18. I've always liked the idea of a Variax bass but when a lefty comes up on ebay they go in for silly money and never actually sell but the sellers won't take offers. The Boss GT10B pedal has some emulators in it to make a rosewood board sound like maple and vice versa and emulate some bass types like music an and I think Rick's... However I've not used these patches so can't comment on whether they're any good!
  19. That's what I use, some great fretless emulators that are good effects for, an actual fretless too!
  20. Good evening and welcome! Lovely bass that must be! I've got an MIJ P bass and it's awesome. I did a gig in 2018 where I played half with a new Sire 5 string vintage jazz and half with a beaten up 90s MIM Fender jazz, reputably a sh!t vintage for MIM Fender. However, it had Bartolini JB-75 (I think that's the model?) pickups and a few other tweaks and on playback it just sounds that little bit more complex and sophisticated than the Sire, which was an excellent excellent bass. So I'd say Bartolini..
  21. It is that simple! I got away with only having a fretless for years and years.
  22. Or saves swapping basses for a single song in a set.
  23. Zoom and Boss multi fx pedals do an OK fretless simulator, it's not the same as the real thing but it does the job for the odd cover that needs a bit of a fretless sound. The alternative is to play a fretless bass with a metal bar at the end of the fretboard for if you want a fretless to sound like a fretted.
  24. WRONG side of the Pennines!! Arctic Monkeys are from the right side.
  25. Ah I didn't know the name... The guy who ran, and for all I know still runs, this shop didn't "customise" his instruments, you'd need to look quite carefully to see what they were. He didn't scrawl a shoddy signature on the headstock with a felt tip!
