2.
My favourate Jeff Berlin moment was in that bass clinic argument he had with Steve Bailey, Steve was criticising him on not being able to play 6 string or fretless (I think Jeff had said something that that made that point seem less pointless that it does in this context) and Jeff said "pass me your fretless", he did.. Berlin played 3 notes or something, realised he was hopeless and that it was a lost cause, made some excuses and meekly passed it back . Was a while ago I saw it, may have got some facts mixed up but thats what I remember.
He did ok....and he said "gimmie a day" which I'm sure he'd be able to cut it by then.
3.
I agree in many ways with Jeff Berlin, who is a great player. I think teaching crap like warm up is a waste of money and time. I could tell the planet that for f*** all. Stretch your fingers a little and don't try to be Victor Wooten in the first 30 seconds. Having said that, according to Zappa, JB was one of a greedy bunch of mechanics, so he fired JB and Vinnie C and canceled the tour. Don't blame him.
Zappa fired a whole band at one time.......doesn't mean a thing.
4. Sounds like we're going to have our very own war right here
5. Awww, I like old Jeff, he's a great player.
6. Sonic Blue or Black do it for me.
7. If it's any help, I've tried Dimarzio P's and they are just gorgeous! Can't speak for the Dimarzio PJ's but I suspect they're just as great!
8. Looks great Doc, knew I should've had those reverse machines off you, wasn't too sure if they'd be ok on a USA headstock You've done a fine job!
9. A while ago I decided to start learning St James Infirmary, it was online, with a great bass player, a vid and transcription (tab) Well, because I have the attention span of a knat I left it for a while.....more than a year now, so this afternoon thought I'd pick it back up again but I can't find the thing anywhere....does anybody know what vid I'm talking about? Any links? Help! I'm on a mission now
10. Not bad to have 4 dragons out of 5 sniffing around your product..mind you, I thought it was a little unprofessional that they couldn't do any else apart from the "extract" they played.....still, good on 'em I say!
11. Sunday night...Morgans, Llanharan. Not a bad turn out for the dying Sunday afternoon gig BUT we sounded awful, I've been trying to get into my new HA3500 on the last few gigs but because we've been utter sh*te of late I haven't had the chance to appreciate what it's capable of....time to jump ship I reckon
12. I enjoyed the Bad Plus and Mike Stern interviews.......gonna watch the rest now
13. I don't socialise with my covers band or my original band...what's left of it I'm not in it for that type of thing....I don't think it's a must that you have to go to the pub, or go to watch gigs etc with the musicians you work with....people have lives, we all have different interests, things we do, things we don't. Just my opinion on " if you don't drink and smoke, we're not sure we'll get on" nonsense
14. I was blown away when I first heard Rubber Shirt...awesome!
15. I used Rotosound for years, still love their tone but it doesn't last long....then went to Pro Steels and they are superb strings! Just moved onto Hartke....seem great at the moment, a little softer than my other faves. Out of those three it has to be the Pro Steels that do it for me.
16.
Jase,I cant be f***ed anymore,As Ive said,Ive had enough, there ISNT the musicians around to play it with,I dont want sympathy,or to come across all petulant, but I look at it and see 'New Kitchen' or 'Patio'. Ive offers on my 6,and Ive interest and offers on one of my fretless's. I genuinely think that someones putting the word out about me,in a negative sense.
I see.....I think all of us at times just want to knock it on the head, been like it myself particularly this week....to do with partysounds and joinmyband...and I'm just looking for a regular working covers band to earn some money, there are just two of us left in my original project...it's all crap at the moment! BUT don't sell the ERB's because the situation will come around sooner or later and you'll need them. I don't know what else to suggest that might be helpful......have you thought of creating your own opportunities? For example: you read, sing and I suspect play very well, there is a certain amount of arrogance or should I say confidence in your ability, why not see if you can sit in on some sessions...I dunno, Fusion, Jazz or live Improv stuff...OR just get a set of just bass and vocals together. Just a thought. It's very difficult these days to get something together with serious musicians, I will agree with you on that.
17. Selling...after all that waiting? You're fookin mad!
18. That was great!!!! It is now cool again to play Smoke onthe Water
19.
Ok,check this out,I got asked for a photo....(fingers crossed)
A band showing interest?
20. Yep, not a bad looking bass, I don't usually like musicman, it's probably the lack of control plate and pickguard that's attracting me.
21.
Which brings us back to my original point,Its just bastard rude, you are left high and dry,and you dont know what you are to do? Ive learnt 8 songs in 5 days, nailed them, been told I was the "best they had had all week" and then recieve the email of rejection. I have come to the conclusion, where I might just ask,"Are you really bothered..?"
Yep agree....RUDE!
22.
i went for an audition last week who have a deal with a large record company and got on great (i thought) with the guys in the band even did my home work on them, went to see them live and played the audition songs perfectly and with a lot of feel not just note for note. At the end of the audition they said i was the best player they had seen in three days of auditions so i thought i would at least get through to the next round Got an email saying not what we are looking for What the F**k do you have to do spent a lot of time working on the songs etc it would be nice to get a bit of feedback as to why i did not get in never mind try again and again and again and again
Weird that type of thing, all goes well and.......nah, not what we're looking for! It doesn't take long before you start asking yourself WTF is going on, is it worth all the nonsense? Oddly though, we keep going back for more.
23.
Maybe I should write a thread about how to advertise yourself on musician dating sites.
Perhaps that's the secret....you have to date these people
24.
Last night & today I scoured all the websites (partysounds,Formingbands,Bandmix etc),reupdated my details, any extra info,on what I can do,and into....put new ads up....I seem to do this EVERY 3 months, its quite depressing me. Worryingly there ISNT anything about, unless I was 15 again,It saddens me,but I scan for hours, and cant find anything or anyone with much in common, once again, covers and covers/Indie/pop punk bands galore, but nowt else. I feel slightly doomed,as Ive had a shot in the sun and botched it.....Where did all the bands go.
The annoying thing about those sites is hardly anybody replies after the first contact, been looking myself lately and out of about 12 pm's and dozens of posts on the forums some of these sites have, I can honestly say, 3 bands/musicians have had the courtesy to actually get back and say, "no thanks" or "sorry we're sorted".....so many ignorant "musicians" around. Hard work I reckon!
