1. Yup, they are all still with me. Here's is most of them in one picture.
2. Finally going to make sawdust on this double build soon, already prepared some odds and ends, more details later. Also did some designing for the next planned project, a 10 string, no exact plans yet. The only thing I discovered is that I have to build the bridge myself, there is nothing to my liking on the market for a 5 string with octave strings.
3. Another of my DIY projects. Build diary.
4. I would go for the second one, the grain and the chrome hardware supplement each other in this orientation.
5. The stock strings are bad, would be better if Thomann sold this bass without strings! I don't know if there are halfwounds in shortscale, I always use roundwounds. The strings I like most on my shorty's (at the moment) are from Höfner, these nicely priced and they sound and feel very good. The P-pickup mounted in these shorty's is standard size so you can use any replacement you fancy. It doesn't sound that bad so I advise you to give it a go before replacing it. Can't give you too much advise on a replacement though, I've only got two basses with a P-pickup, one is still stock (Squier) and the other is the SD quarter-pounder sitting in one of my shorty's.
6. It has a arched top and back.
7. Neither, it says Made in China on the back of the headstock.
8. Same here, a love-hate relation with electronics. Once it works (properly) I love it - but it never works (right) at once. Luckily I somehow always get it working!
9.
Anybody for another ?
Go for it!! I can never get enough from builds from scratch, always admiring the craftsmanship and inventiveness. And if there are tricks shown I can borrow it's even better.
10. Defretted my F(ake)ender Jazz Bass V a few weeks ago. Lovely to hear all those theoretical problems in this topic. However in practical terms, if the fingerboard is properly leveled you won't really hear a difference between the blocks or the fingerboard.
11. You make me blush Andy. I've been making (and designing) laboratory equipment for a living for almost 35 years now. In my childhood years I was almost always busy trying to make things, however in those days was better at breaking them , this breaking taught me a lot in how to fix things and how they actually worked. In short, I've been building all my life, been educated in it, I'd better be good at it .
12.

On seeing this picture I would slim down the heel area as well, there is enough real estate there you can remove. This will also get rid of, or at least tone down, the damage that can be seen there.
13. Because of the arrival of the Sire MM V7 I defretted my F(ake)ender Jazz Bass V. detail.
14. The soundhole binding is a brilliant finishing touch, classy.

My newest herd member. Sire Marcus Miller V7 Alder-5 tobacco sunburst.
16. New addition to the herd. Sire Marcus Miller V7 Alder-5 tobacco sunburst. You get a lot of bass for a decent price, very well built with an extremely versatile preamp onboard.
17. That's the way to do it, turn a screwup into a feature, well done!
18. Looking great, a shame you have to put it in a crate.
19.
perhaps even a Ding Paul SG-shape.
Like this? Build diary.
20. Ordered and received more parts. For the bass all the parts but neck attachment screws are in now, for the guitar version I'm still waiting for specifications. Going to start on the bass very soon.
21. The full picture, finally with the truss rod cover on it.
22. Chinabacker R4005. It needed a new truss rod cover and some tweaking & tinkering but is real nice looking and playing bass now.
23. It's on the the internet, feel free to use it.
