DRUMMER WANTED for 'Su Edwards & Gone Country'. We are a busy award winning Fun/ Americana/Country/Johnny Cash Tribute Band. Our present drummer is leaving in the middle of October and we need to have a replacement up and running for then. Technical brilliance (but would be nice!) is not essential, but personality and a right fit for the band is a must! Must be fun loving and enjoy a good laugh and travelling with the rest of the band is offered. The band is based in and around Woking, Surrey so preferably would need to be reasonably local to there. We play about 6 gigs a month at a mixture of social clubs, country music clubs, pubs, theatres and festivals in the south, with the occasional foray into Wales and the Midlands. All paid work but we do about 1-2 charity gigs a year so it's not all about money, it's about having fun, so please, no breadheads or miserable gits need apply! Auditions to be held locally. Hi Great Harry. I'm 70 and still gigging so you've got years yet! I retired for a few years a while ago and started from scratch with my first purchase being a Yamaha RBX 170 bought s/h for £50.00. A great little bass and sounds/plays beautifully. Although I now use a Jazz bass I still have it and get it out for the occasional gig.

Eden for me also. I'm using a Nemesis 650 and it's the best sound I've had in fifty years of playing!

[/quote] Totally agree with this. I've been regularly gigging now for over fifty years. I turn up, switch it on, plug it in and tweak a bit to tailor to the room acoustics. Job done! There's nothing like the Mark 1 earhole... (I now use 1 x 15" having previously used 2 x 12". The only time I've ever used 10"s have been at festivals where the rig was provided)

You're right TRB. Whenever I get another bass I just tweak here and there until it feels comfortable although I like mine on the lowish side. I'm dismayed by the fact that many a potential bass player and even guitarists have abandoned learning their chosen instrument because the action was too high as thats the way it was when they bought it from the shop.

I've used both round & flats during my career and like them both. Currently using rounds on both the Jazz and the Yamaha. Having said that however, the only strings I've ever had break on me have been flats.

One of the best materials for damping the inside of a cab is Kapok. It's a natural material and has the ability to asorb air. This has the effect of making the cab 'think' it's bigger than it really is. You can find it for sale on line.

Hi, my name is Terry. I've been playing bass for over fifty years now, and someday I will learn how to do it properly!! I've been professional on and off during that time and spent the last thirty playing country music. I'm well past retiring age but as long as I can lift the rig into the car, I'll keep going. The other guys in the band have offered to lift me on and off the stage, so, I'm well covered there... I don't tend to collect gear and just use the Fender Jazz and keep the Yamaha as a spare. I've just blown up a 300watt Ampeg and now use an Eden Nemesis 650 top through a gutted Fender Satellite cab loaded with a 15" Black Widow. Love the site and it's great to keep up with what everybody is doing and what they're doing it with. There's a link below to my bands website with some of our music on it.
