  1. I was at one of those gigs too. I think there were 2 or 3 dates back to back. Weren’t The Beat doing support as well? I seem to remember them doing Mirror in the Bathroom and Stand Down Margaret. Just as Icehouse reached the guitar solo in Hey Little Girl, his guitar cut out, poor bloke.
  2. Some years ago at a Poppa Chubby gig (for those who don’t know him, he’s a very large and imposing figure) he, after repeated polite requests to one loud-mouthed punter, stopped the gig mid-song, saying, and I quote, “If you don’t shut the f**k up, I’m going to come down there and beat you down like the bi*ch you are!” Suffice as to say, we had no further interruptions from soft lad. 😏
  3. Ouch. We have a winner!
  4. Class 👍
  5. Our 70s disco band, complete with Saturday Night Fever costumes and Afros got booked to play a Harley Davidson Club night. 1 or 2 of the girls danced. The several hundred men stayed outside in the bar. But hey, they didn‘t trash the place ☺️
  6. If you and the other bass-player get on well and can trust each other it‘s great. It means the band have two worked in bass-players rather than one regular guy and a (potentially) rusty sub.
  7. I daren‘t ask what it‘d cost.
  8. Nice one WoT, sounds like a great experience all round.
  9. Do you learn the material by heart then, or do you write scratch-charts for yourself?
  10. The slot in the nut will probably be cut for the width of a typical B-string. You may find an E-string lying a bit low and vibrating in the slot. I‘m sure someone here can suggest a way to alleviate this if it does happen.
  11. That image is now lodged in my head. Thanks for that....
  12. Psssst, nobody tell Discreet about this! Oops, here he comes now 😉
  13. There was a thread here some time back from someone who was running a youth-club (do we even say that anymore?) looking for stuff. I‘ll try and find it....
  14. This one, despite evidence to the contrary on this “live“ TV appearance... Here, the bassline-proper doesn‘t kick in until about 00:54 Oberheim I think?

    What year is it, please?
  16. Frankly what it needs most is the Klingon cloaking device.
  17. Hi, have you tried looking at the “Deko“ stuff from Thomann? Here‘s one example https://m.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_custom_line_clr_resoba_deko.htm This isn‘t specifically what you‘re after but new stuff, including J and P basses, does come along quite often. They‘re supposedly damaged and not playable but numerous reports on BC say that this is often not the case. Inexpensive and possibly ideal for project stuff. It pays to check regularly.
  18. Welcome Fulkram. The subtlety element gets increasingly fun and intriguing as you go along. What others in a band often don‘t realise is just how much you‘re running the show. As for better basses, these days really usable kit does not have to be expensive, so there‘s plenty to look forward to there too. enjoy the ride, Paul.
  19. Cringe? My sphincter felt so tight it threatened to rectally invert me.
  20. Is that, by any chance, the one Marc S sold? If so, “I hate you” (said in a petulant, Kenneth Williams voice). I’m so jealous 😛
  21. Last week I decided to finally put the Labella flat wound strings that I had bought almost 2 years ago on to my Yamaha BB 1200. You can imagine just how gutted I was when the A-string broke as I was putting the strings on. Finding a single replacement string was clearly highly unlikely so this would render the whole set as useless or at least mean that I would have to buy a new set and have three spares. On the off-chance that they might be able to help me I wrote an email to Thomann.I heard nothing back for several days and thought, “oh well tough luck”. Imagine my surprise when, four working days later, I received a single replacement A-string in the post and that during the Christmas rush. Many thanks to those nice people at customer service at thomann. Merry Christmas XXX.
  22. Much as its irks me to say it (bah humbug!) you make a very good point there.
  23. Clearly he is either: a.) the reincarnation of a Mesopatamian king b.) hiding his identity for fear of reprisals (understandable really) c.) just a bit if a bell-end d.) all of the above
