1. I've managed to make a slideshow on Photobucket. Lots more photos there. Moffat Bassbash 4 slideshow I'll have to work out how to get everything full screen later!
2. Some pics from yesterday. It's obvious that one of our cats didn't want us to go though.....
3. Just a quick post. Jen (my better half) and I came home to find that the whole street had a power cut! Just got power back about 25 minutes ago. The curry by candlelight was nice though Huge thanks to Alan & Dave for getting the day together and to everyone who attended for being so gracious in talking bass and letting me play their great basses. Jen took some pics while we were there so I'll post those in due course.
4.
A one size fits all approach (or my way or the highway) is doing a diservice to the student. And anyone adopting it really should consider whether they should be teaching.
I done a bit of teaching and sometimes have had to come up with new ways of getting a point across. One size doesn't fit all and this why teaching is both challenging and rewarding. IMO, some people (like Jeff Berlin) don't like the fact that some bass players get recognition and fame without having a 'proper' musical education. You don't have to study music theory or read it in order to play bass and sometimes those players hit the big time. I think there's a feeling of 'injustice' on his part.
5.
I was thinking. Any Dingwall owners coming to the show, email me your name and T-shirt size before March 6th and I'll make sure there's a T-shirt for you at the show. Combustion owners: bring your bass and I'll install a B-booster kit for free. One potential problem - if this show is anything like NAMM there may be issues with bringing your bass into the show. I'll check into this. If you're driving we could do the upgrade in the lobby if you feel comfortable storing your bass in your car.
Again, this just goes to show how much you care about your customers. Bravo, sir Not going to be able to go to the show though! London's my home town but I live 400 miles away.
6. I know what you mean!
The uke revolution has been going for years now, not moments - there are a few bands out there actually gigging and making a real fist of it too, including mine!
Apologies. I should have said still going on at the moment!
7.
What's the B-string magnetic kit? I couldn't find any reference to it on the Dingwall site.
You can find info on the Dingwall forum
8. I suppose famous players get so used to getting compliments that criticism (or someone disagreeing with them) can be hard to handle. After all, if you do a bass clinic, I don't suppose people would turn up who don't like you! Why do famous players have to go on forums as themselves anyway. Why not keep anonymous and just enjoy the banter!
9. +1 for Jon Shuker. If you want a high-quality, hand-made P-bass clone then he's the man
10. Just found this useful site which will calculate all the suty and VAT for you. http://www.dutycalculator.com/ Really easy to use as well. Just a shame VAT is now 20%.....
11. Ukulele's a way under-rated instrument and there's a bit of a Uke Revolution going on at the moment. As it's uses nylon strings, much easier to handle than a guitar and only has the 4 string a lot of kids are playing ukes in schools. That's getting a lot of parents involved as well and groups are springing up across the UK. I play uke for fun (I have a concert and a tenor)I have a and it's great working out songs, transposing them if need be, and then playing them. There's a host of uke stuff on YouTube so well worth a look around. More bass uke!
12. I've had mine a couple of months now and I really like it. It feels great, plays great and sounds good. For players who want to change the sound, there's always an option to install a B string magnetic kit to beef up the lower end a bit and it's $15. Otherwise a new set of AB pickups can be ordered for a lot more.
13. The same as when sitting or standing formula works for me. I've never looked cool, so lowering the bass wouldn't help anyway
14. Yup, the Charvel is a pretty special bass!
15. Wonderful bass and a tale with a happy ending. Many congrats on owning it eventually
16. PM sent. Just got the OK from my wife
17.
there seems to be a lot of mysticism attached to guitar work, like some sort of magic circle. but i think the reason a lot of 'luthiers' overcharge is down to the fact that work is thin on the ground and the bills do need paying. most of the work on a guitar can be done at home with minimal tool requirements and a little knowledge. everything you need to know is on the net. electrics can get confusing though.
The thing is that if shops were more open with work they do then they'll gain the respect and trust of the player. Treating customers like they're idiots (and overcharging them) just creates bad feeling!!
18. Looks like it's going to be great. I'll be watching with extreme interest More U Bass stuff!
19. One 5-string version please
20. Looks like it's going to be a great bass
21. 6 strings on a 4 string neck would be really tight. 5 strings on a 4 is bad enough
22. Had a search for Kala at NAMM and found this You Tube vid from Ukulele Underground. and one from Harmony Central The 5 string in the video looks great! Made in USA, production starts March/April. No confirmed retail prices yet but expected to be around $1000. I've given my wife my super-cute-darling-I-love-you look already
23.
Ooooo errrr! Hahaha Maybe!
