Withdrawn from sale, thanks. Hi all, With regret, I'm selling my Sadowsky Metro Ultra-Vintage jazz. It is cream with tortoiseshell PG, rosewood board with blocks and binding. 2 band EQ with VTC (vintage tone control). Pickups are in 1970s spacing. I've had this bass for about 3/4 years now and it's been my number 1 four-string bass for the whole time. As well as looking beautiful, it sounds incredible and sits in the mix like nothing else I have played. I'm selling because most of my gigs require a 5 string and for the few I need a four string, I have other cheaper instruments that do the job okay- it's a lot of money to be at in an instrument. Overall it's in great condition - some minor dings on the back of the neck, ditto back of the body and some buckle-rash (pictured). I was worried that my mobile phone was causing interference with the bass (I figured out it is only when I'm on WAP (ie. out of 3G wifi, quite rare) and when the phone is within a few inches from the bass so I brought it to the Bass Gallery where they checked the shielding and put some electrical tape over the pickup pole pieces and it seems to have rectified it. The tape (which you can barely really notice, see pic, I can provide a clearer one if necessary) also stops your finger from touching the pole pieces which cause a slight buzz. I also got the gallery to build a ramp for the bass, which has made a great difference to my playing! I will also include strap-locks with the bass. I am based in Chelmsford, Essex (CM2) close to the M25, about 20/25mins from J28 on the M25. I am not keen to post the bass but I will do - around £45ish in the UK and about £60 to Europe with full insurance. ! 1975 Fender Jazz - very noisy! Do I need new pickups?
Mike replied to Mike's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for your tips. When I am back from a trip I will take a pic and see if I can locate the loose wire. Thanks! -
Hi all! I have a 1975 jazz in mostly great condition. One issue I'm having is a significant buzz when the I'm not touching the strings/bridge/any metal part of the bass. So I'm guessing it's an earthing issue - what can be done to rectify this? Also, the pickups crackle and buzz loudly when you touch the pole pieces. I've encountered this before on another bass and some black electrical tape did the trick, although of course this is treating the symptoms rather than fixing it. Can anything be done or are new pickups required? Thanks in advance! Mike

Digital/Electronic Piano recommendations please
Mike replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Other Instruments
I'd recommend the Korg SV1 secondhand - new they are about £1300 but can be found second hand. Amazing keybed, and the best rhodes/wurlitzers/clavs you can find. Lovely piano sounds too. Check out videos etc. Looks great too. http://www.korg.com/sv1 -
I had a lesson with LC and his effortless mastery of the instrument and his deep harmonic understanding of everything he plays was incredible to behold.

Bilbo, normally I consider you right on the money but to write off LC as a Jaco clone is madness. Listen to his body of work - yes, he has the facility and groove of Jaco but if you hear his playing on something like Mark Nightingale's Out of the Box album I don't think you could possibly compare the two. LC is a phenomenal musician.
iRealB is fantastic, having so many charts that can be transposed in realtime is a blessing. However, since I bought the app originally, they no longer include all the charts with the app, this is for legal reasons. The app only now comes with 50 generic charts, you have to download the charts from the forum if you want them. I have the preference file saved separately on my Mac so I can always reinstall all of them should I lose the app. You do this through iTunes with the iPad or iPhone connected. PM me if anyone is interested in the file and I'll send it to you.
This is perfectly correct but almost makes it sound worse than it is. On the forum (you don't need to register) with a couple of clicks you have downloaded hundreds, if not thousands of jazz/function charts. Soooo easy. Best £5 I ever spent, no doubt!

I'm doing that trip in a few weeks - Phoenix AZ through New Mexico, across Texas, into Louisiana, New Orleans, up through Mississippi then into Tennassee for Memphis and Nashville. So I'll be able to tell you more when I'm back! I can see more to do in Memphis but they both look great. Particularly looking forward to Sun and Stax studios!

Any payment or expenses? I'll pm you a name.

Yeah it's so worth paying the $25 or whatever for the download. It's fantastic.

Great! Thanks for helping me out. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Mike! What a great video. With my friend Tom playing trumpet too. I saw the LC gig at Ronnies (first set) and was sat right in front of him, a bass education as always! He is always kind enough to remember who I am and stop to say hi - what an absolutely TOP guy and player. Love it - more if you have them please!

I was there too, and I work with Seth on Fridays. He seemed pretty disappointed by it, but is positive about playing at other venues perhaps monthly. It's a shame as it's so wonderful to have those guys on my doorstep every thursday,. and I've enjoyed my gigs with John and Zak, as well as depping at the Bassment when they've been off touring. Let's hope they get it sorted asap!

Follow the chords. I think a good rule of thumb when starting a solo is to continue playing the bassline for a bit - often people haven't heard it 'soloed' so to speak, so that can be really nice. Then, start embellishing it - never lose the groove!
