1.
Fantastic! That's one of my must-try basses. Is the fingerboard simply stainless steel, or something a bit more exotic like the Delta Metal that the Vigiers use? Thanks for posting those photos.
The fingerboard is indeed simply stainless steel.... Find the cat in this picture..
2. I had already heard about Lefay basses and I had checked out the fretted Capone many years ago. Around three or four years ago I visited the European Bass Day and my attention was immediately drawn to one bass with a great special look. I asked the builder if I could try one and after one minute I knew I had to have one. I have tried hundreds of fretless basses (owned several) but these Lefay Remington basses are simply amazing... endless sustain (studiotechnicians are amazed by the length of the outfading note at the end of a song), the playability is effortless, the controls really easy (this bass is passive) and though the stainless steel-neck would suggest it sounds cold and hi fi, it's quite the opposite. A warm mellow tone referring to a sound between a Jazz and a Music Man. Reiner Dobbratz of Lefay build me a five string but I needed a fourstring too so a year later the other one arrived. Bassplayers who try out my fretless basses are floored by the sound. To me it's the best fretless bass on earth and though I also love my Wal fretless bass the Lefay bass gets to be played more often...They are not cheap (prices from 3000 euros when I bought them) but they are worth every penny and Reiner Dobbratz of Lefay is a great person to deal with.
3. Almost there Kansas City Milkman Mr Pink Heathrow Love Games Lyrics don't bother me too much, I'm Flemish so we're used to lyrics we don't always understand :-)
4. Never seen one of these before but it looks absolutely stunning !
5. A lot of countrysongs have an explicite bass-feel which is hard to master...it seems dead easy but the length of the notes is so important and changes the whole thing. I have more trouble playing "Why not me" by The Judds with the required feel than playing Level 42's "Love Games" funny enough.
6. I didn't like the looks of the Bongo's at first but when I heard them I changed my mind. I was able to buy a red HH Bongo 4 for 1000 euros on Ebay and I just got it today. I haven't been able to check it out yet but it looks great. There's a character in it which is just a little bit different from other MusicMans and I love that sound.
7. Wow, I haven't seen one of these for a really long time and it brings back memories. I had one (but in black) during the eighties, great instrument ! Good luck with the sale.
8. I had some emails from him because he was interested in buying a Wal-bass. Unfortunately he aspired an absolutely mint bass without a Hipshot-D tuner so the transaction didn't go through. I remember that he was a plumber in his forties.
9. I used to have a Steinberger at the end of the eighties... I didn't have a tuning machine and I didn't want to admit to the band I was in that I didn't have that sort of gear. So I tuned my bass to a record at home, put the bass in its bag, drove to the gig and played without retuning. Didn't move a bit :-) Excellent basses ! Veel geluk met de verkoop, alleszins !
10. I know a bassplayer who owns an Akai-looper and it has the nice feature that you can go back to your first layer without everything on top of it, which is very handy. Anyone know if this pedal has the same possibility ?
11. I thought only the Japanese were supposed to be masters in torture.... Thanks for your kind pm's so far..! I found a couple of other Imperials for sale but you spoiled the fun a bit with those pictures of that beautiful wood and I don't want anything less inspiring and beautiful if I would spend that kind of money. I will roam the seven seas looking for a similar one ! (hums "the last farewell" by Roger Whittaker)
12. Station Music in Germany sells the footswitch for 98 Euros. That's where I bought the amp and the switch.
13. I'm afraid not... it was expensive as an extra feature but it came in very handy and I used it a lot. Especially the mute switch, although the two channels-option was also very neat. The mid-cut option I found a bit useless.
14. Sold to a Swiss father who takes very good care of his son... congratulations with the results of your son :-)
15. Recently I put my precious Fender for sale...I didn't ask a lot of money so I got plenty of reactions (nearly ten in two hours). Everyone was able to pay for it and come and get it immediately. Except for one 15-year old who wrote me that he didn't have the total amount but that he was going to pick fruit during July to be able to buy my bass and if I wanted to put it aside for him I really admired his willingness to work for it and I gave him priority though there were other buyers. It hangs on the wall ready for him. Sorry for the off topic :-)
16.
I was in a similar position to Molan above - the news of the pending sale has reduced my anxiety considerably
I was already thinking of selling my early seventies sunburst Fender Jazz Bass, adding the extra money to buy this '65 Jazz, etc.. It is a bit of relief that I have been beaten :-)
17. I have seen many basses but I think this is the most beautiful bass I have ever seen.. In fact I am looking for a bass like this.. I've been selling a couple of basses recently (like my blue Wal) and with that money I would like to buy a Fodera like you have. Unfortunately not easy to find second hand.. Buying a new one is a bit too expensive but I hope within the near future to find a similar beautiful Fodera like yours. Absolutely stunning and breathtaking.. Congratulations.
18. Don't know if it helps but I sold my Wal MKII five-string (padouk) for around 3250 euros in december last year.
19. Thanks for the tour... nice to see the face behind the bass I have been playing. Still very pleased with it, sold my old Fender because it was no match for the Celinder.
20. Great ! That's a relief because I was considering buying it but then I would have to stop looking for a nice Fodera. You made my life easier ..
21. Fresh ideas, good groove... liked this a lot. First one sounded a bit too trebly for me but on the whole there are plenty of things I can steal to use them myself ...
