1. already had a couple of offers from all around Europe but so far nothing final so this one is still for sale... I would also rather not trade...
2. Now I know how much I weigh too :-) Bass weighs 4,5 kg..
3. Potential buyer took back his offer so back for sale again...
4.
thanks for your explanation.
Thanks anyway :-)
5. They had used the chord sequence of "message in a bottle" to announce a Belgian cook ("cock" Rodman joked) earlier in the show (he wrote a book about cooking "SOS Cooking") so they only new the verse. They were surprised since the soundmix normally is a bit better and they would have known the structure better (I know the musicians too so I'm pretty sure) http://www.kookeiland.be/kookeiland.asp?fi...VD-SOS-Piet.htm
6. Yesterday, Sting was a guest in a Belgian tv-show to talk about this new album. It wasn't rehearsed but Sting went to the stage to sing "Message in a bottle" with the completely surprised house-band. Thought I'd share this with you... 7. Thanks, Jens... looking forward to play it.
8.
The next one is quite unusual as it is a medium scale Spoiler with the shape of a Series I, but it has a solid body like the signature series. It was made in 1987 and I got it from a nice bass player in Paris who already owns two other Alembic basses (Elan and Essence). It was one of the few basses played by Mark King in 1988 on a Deutsche TV program (the famous bass challenge) at 4:35 mn : Here
This bass looks a lot like the one I used to own for a brief moment. I sold it about two-three years ago (not sure since time flies) to a very kind bassplayer from Paris (he played upright too). He came all the way to the station in Brussels to pick up this bass. He was around 50 years old but can't remember his name. Might be my old bass...:-)
9. I helped out a band last week since they didn't have a bassplayer, I used my fretless Lefay 5, plugged in the DI (you won't understand a word he's singing, I think :-)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXHVraiLy3s
10. I bought this a year ago but I haven't been using it a lot so this one is for sale again. It is a Sound Of Sweden bass designed by Jonas Hellborg (bassplayer for Mahavishnu amongst others) and this model he used for a while during his career. There is not much to be found on the internet about these basses. A lot of different sounds are available through different switches from P-bass to dark mids. It is a versatile bass and easy to play. 27(!) fret fingerboard. Shadow humbucking pick ups with 3-position switches for selecting humbucking - single coil - out of phase. I'm asking 350 euros (I can include a gigbag), bass can be picked up (I live near Brussels) or can be send. for an idea of the sound, if you check Jonas Hellborg bass solo on youtube, there are plenty of things to be found with this type of bass. If you want more pictures just send me an email Thanks, Geert
11. I was at the casino of Ostend for a tv-show. I noticed that Toots Thielemans was there too and I just went up to him, shook his hand and thanked him for the great music he had made. He accepted my gesture with kindness although he didn't know who I was. Later on he came up to me, sat beside me and we talked about music and I mentioned his work with Jaco Pastorius. He talked about that time and I said that "Three views of a secret" was one of my favourite pieces of music ever and that I loved his playing on it. He took his harmonica out of his pocket and played the theme for me and improvised. I was speechless and it was one of the most beautiful moments in my life. I thanked him, he stood up and I went to a dressing room where I started crying. It was magic.
12. My brandnew Alembic Mark King Signature...hasn't been played (locked away by former owners). Took it out last Saturday for its first gig.
13. I have a fretless Lefay for sale and it takes just that special buyer who is looking for this kind of instrument at the right moment. These basses are not cheap so you just have to be lucky. Fortunately my bass doesn't réally have to go so that takes away a lot of anxiety -
14. I had one like this one for years, was my main bass.... excellent basses, sold it however after 10 years to buy the Celinder in the bass-cbat banner. But my Sandberg JM4 won in the end :-)
15. It's coming to Belgium...I'm actually a bit curious who bought it around here. I bought a couple basses on bass-chat and had good experiences with UPS and Fedex (I didn't take the insurance and everytime basses arrived here in perfect condition)
16.
I have to say that I disagree on the 'Welcome back' comment. It's not this or that, one is not mutually exclusive of the other. All forms of music have their place and time and I listen to basscentric stuff when the mood takes me. The range of bass playing used is too large to squeeze it into a genre too imo.
+ 1... Just listening to some bass-related albums gives me inspiration for other situations. I try not to restrict myself, sometimes I'm able to listen to a whole Miller or Wooten album, the next day I can't stand a single note. If I have to listen to Coldplay's bassplayer for instance there's not much going on for me I'm afraid, so some occasional Caron, Pattituci, etc... blows away the cobwebbs from any routine. It comes and goes.. I wouldn't like the idea that I think bass-albums are stupid or a waste of time, I love to hear influences and new bass-stuff and on "normal" albums, you cannot find that. I do think that it's not because you're an excellent bassplayer that you're an excellent composer (I'm afraid I don't like the Jaco-solorecords, except for "Three views of a secret"..)
17.
Did you have one? I did.....it was rubbish! (#38 of 42). Sad eh?
I had number 14...no, it wasn't that good :-)
18. These days it's hard to imagine what impact Mark King had in the eighties. Now we are more familiar with slapstyles etc but I remember that no one had ever heard anything like him when Love Games came out. It was new, it was fresh and new doors were opened (I can't recall anyone since then with the same influence). I heard the Level 42 album ("Almost there" was even faster :-)) and I just couldn't understand how anyone in the world could play like that and I didn't even know at the time that he also sang.. Every bassplayer talked about him and he had an enormous influence (I actually learned my 16th-feel from him ("The Chinese Way") and not from Jaco for instance). Concerning his quick mastering the bass...I really think it's a drummer thing, a local drummer picked up a bass and within a couple of days he could slap things I wasn't able to play. It's all about the polyrythms they have learned.
19. My first and last bump..... If it moves up a couple of pages I see it as a sign that I have to keep it :-)
20. I have a similar Sandberg and I consider it one of the best basses I have ever owned, very versatile and easy to play. They sound punchy and funky and I prefer them above much more expensive basses. Good luck with the sale..
21.
Geeeez - Geert! You cannot do that! If I hadn't that killer WAL 5 fretless I would instantly buy that Le Fay from you. Having played it shortly at your place I can only recommend both the instrument and the seller Best of luck w/ the sale! ta Oliver
Thanks Oliver.... how good this bass might be it just doesn't get played any more the last year and a half. I take it from its hook every now and then and I'm still amazed by it but I have left the band I could use it in. To be honest this 5 string sounds a lot better than the Lefay 4 (the 5 has more bottom) but if I have to make a choice I would sacrifice this five-string since I tend to go for my fourstring (it's just easier in certain situations) I'm still not sure about this sale, I told myself I would never sell it but it bothers me that I cannot find a purpose for it. I'm playing in bands which don't incorporate fretless so...
