1. Thanks for the bump but if all goes well the bass will be leaving Belgium next week... The bass is as good as sold. The young man who gets it surely obtains a beautiful and great sounding bass. The blue finish is just a joy to see and the sound is punchy and full. I had doubts to sell it but as I said I don't want to be a collector and this bass deserves to inspire someone else who plays it a lot. I don't believe in great basses locked away or staying in cases too long. The people who build them want their basses to be played. And with the money I get I can look around for something else which will inspire me hopefully for a while.
2. Welcome...nice to see there are other people from Belgium. I'm from Vilvoorde which is Vlaams Brabant also..Het is een kleine wereld.
3. I'll just use this topic by the way to say thanks for the way you handled our transaction with the Celinder Update J4, I bought from you. Nice to know that there are still honest people around and let me have the refund from fedex, which they gave because the shipment was too late. You could have kept the refund (I had forgotten all about it) but you were honest enough to let me know they owed me money..Thanks a lot, Steve ! Great to do business this way and still enjoying the Celinder. cheers Geert
4. I wasn't planning to buy a Sadowsky but this bass just looks gorgeous... I'm a bit confused though : is the bass located in Europe or in the States, since that makes a difference due to import taxes ?
5. That's good news for my financial situation (but unfortunately I will be looking for something else..)
6. Bump for this bass, hoping someone else buys it before I do...véry tempting.
7. I bought a Sadowsky MV24 5 string two years ago for a really good price (around 1100 euros) but I wasn't pleased with it. I sold it after two months. The neck just felt "stiff", I couldn't bend the strings easily and how hard I worked with the controls, the sound remained boomy and artificial. I found it to be a rock-bass instead of a funkybass. I understand why Metallica's Newstedt uses it. I have tried out three Sadowsky basses so far but I think my Celinder J4 is a lot better in every way. Every bassplayer who has tried it out so far is floored by it and can't believe how easy it plays. It's like you don't have to put pressure on your fingers to achieve a great sound. It's the most reponsive bass I have ever played. It was a great day when I decided to buy it from CrazyKiwi. Enjoy your basses !
8. Beautiful bass ! I feel very fortunate that I'm a lousy six-string player ànd that I really need fretlines to play in tune.. Good luck with the sale !
9.
How do you find you Tecamp compared to the UL502? Sorry to go off topic...
I find them rather similar. Switching between the two amps doesn't make a huge difference. Both of them give me an "honest" bass-sound with no specific "edge" or distortion. I compare it to the sound which you get when you plug your bass into the mixing desk and you hear it through the studio-monitors. Not everyone likes that but I do. I hardly have to adjust anything. A fellow guitarplayer thought that I had a bit more lows through the Tecamp and preferred it above the Epifani but the Celinder bass I used has a very effective low-boost circuit so that has also probably something to do with it. I still prefer the Tecamp and the Epifani-amps above anything I have ever played (from Ampeg to EBS to Eden of Trace Elliot, etc..). I'm not really an expert but something just says "yes" when I plug my basses into Tecamp or Epifani. It's like you finally hear your bass like you want it to sound. A matter of taste off course..
10. Would you mind taking a picture of the headstock if possible ?
11. A couple of weeks ago I had put some DR blue coated strings on it.. most bassplayers really didn't like the look. I thought it looked kinda cool...:-)
12. Used this for years but since I purchased my more powerful Tecamp this one is for sale... Can be shipped or picked up (I live just above Brussels) Asking for 850 euros 600 watts.. lightweight (around 6 kg), additional footswitch to switch between the two channels. Thanks Geert
13. I sold my midi Wal for 3000 euros... took a really long time before someone reacted. I thought it would be picked up easily but it didn't.. "problem" with these midi Wals is that it is a bit harder to bend the strings because of the frets which are all connected to the midi system. It is a bit harder to play than a normal Wal. Tracking still isn't solved either... it's ok but you have to obtain absolute control over your own style of playing. Each muted note just makes the system choke..
14. Thank you ! I was just watching the bass when I was walking through my living room and it looks just great. Weird but it wouldn't be unbearable if it wouldn't get sold ..:-)
15. The one on the right is a Wal Mk I shedua ...the left one is a Pro fretless. Thanks for the friendly comments !
16. Less than a year ago I had five Wal basses but I found that a bit too much... I sold a couple of them and now I have a fretless and two fretted Wal basses. This blue one I bought in December 2008 from Pete Collins and it is a great bass with a nice blue finish. I don't play it as much as my shedua so it is a pity that it is not played enough though there's nothing wrong with it, I just like the looks of the shedua more. I don't want to be a collector so I'm selling the blue one with a non original case. Serial number 2623 which situates it around 1985, olive facings.. It is in excellent condition, sounds really great from a funky slap to a nice jaco tone or a deep sub-bass. Looking for 2600 euros, it can be collected at my place (I live near Brussels so there's the Eurostar) or it can be send though I prefer a pick-up. Always ready for more pictures or any questions. I'm sorry but I'm not really looking for trades either.. Thanks Geert
17. Since last week I own a Puma Tecamp 1000 (2x500w) which I run through an Epifani UL4X10 and a 2x12 (both 4ohm). I'm really very enthousiastic about the sound and the power. Every bass I have run through it (from a Wal to a Celinder, etc.) sounds great. No colouration, no dirty mids, no boomy lows. Just a great basssound respecting the sound of each bass and not sounding too hifi. I have used the Epifani UL502 during a couple of years. Great amp too but the Puma is more powerful, easy to use and it weighs less than 3 kilograms. Excellent stuff ...
18. Stop reminding me of this bass....you're making it very hard !
19. A couple of weeks ago I had a gig...some singer had his cd presentation and a whole band of free-lance musicians were hired to do the rehearsal in the afternoon (seven songs) and the gig in the evening (with a tv-station filming). I did the rehearsal with a fretted Peavey Cirrus USA 5 string..I gave my music stand to the backing vocalists since they nothing to put their lyrics-sheets on and I put my chord charts on the floor (badly lit behind a monitor). Rehearsal went smoothly and we played every song twice and we were prepared for the gig. Just before the gig started, I suddenly decided to make it a bit harder on myself (why I don't know, I'm a bit impulsive) and I didn't take the Peavey but a fretless unlined Lefay 5 and went on stage. While I plugged my bass in I noticed a bassplayer in front of me who does 70 % of all the studio-sessions in Belgium. I asked the drummer what that bassplayer was doing here and he said that he had played bass on the album ànd had produced the cd....Hmmmm. The drummer counted off and we started playing the songs, me trying to intonate correctly while reading chord charts on a dark floor...Not the easiest thing there was (but I only made one mistake) I saw the gig on tv and it sounded ok..Although I cursed myself for my decision the moment itself, I felt ok that I did it and it got the adrenaline going. Live fretless bass keeps you on your toes during otherwise sometimes boring gigs..
20. I saw the Spandau-Ross clip on Youtube ... In "Chant" the drums are really not swinging at all...I don't know if he's the original drummer but his playing really isn't ok to me...Very annoying and holding the band down. When they switched to "Gold" he played better..Hadley still sounds ok to me. I wasn't a Spandau-fan when they were succesfull (also here in Belgium) but now I find myself turning up the volume everytime they are on the radio..Power of nostalgia but they do have a couple of great songs (I even like "Through the barricades")
21. The intonation of Steve is just terrible...It just hurts my ears when I hear him play. Isn't he the one that said that you had to practice intonation on fretless by playing in a dark room ? He's got the lights on here but it still sounds out of tune. That eary reverb-sound doesn't make it better, like a sound of dolphins shitting.
22. Good price for an instrument which can easily compete with other, far more expensive, basses. Those Musicians are top instruments and sometimes even remind me soundwise of Alembics and Wal-basses.
23. Very hard to resist... if it would be in Belgium I would have gone for it. Stunning sound from a great bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzMoUFTHuYE
24.
MB1. Best to steer clear on that one!...who in there right mind is gonna part with £1800 for a bass they havent even seen/played?.....MAD!....Sounds more like he doesnt want to sell it!.
Well, I was once that stupid... costed me 1800 euros on a fake Wal in Dundee. Learned my lesson the hard way.
