Wish I could have found one for £290! I have the guitar and I find it a really useful piece of kit.

I got a fairly good JJB sound recently using a P and Guitar RIg 4 using the 'Skream Bass' patch (I think) which is basically drive, compression and a bit of EQ.

I've twatted around on my daughter's cello a bit and the new intervals do take a bit of getting used to. Having said that as I am also trying to teach myself tenor mandola (like a mandolin but a fifth down) and tuned like a viola its something I need to get used to anyway. What is also weird is that although the string length is similar to a bass the 'fret' spacing is a lot closer together as the bridge is halfway up the instrument.

Another with small hands here. Paradoxically I find the massive baseball bat neck of the CV 50's P more comfortable that the jazz neck on my P bass. I have had to give in to the lure of small scale basses recently but that'd because I seem to be developing OA at the base of my thumb meaning some days, but not all a long stretch becomes painful (and on very bad days there is a painful bang from the joint with certain movements - not only restricted to bass playing).

I have a CV 50s P and a Affinity Bronco and love them both. The CV is pretty much stock, apart from cosmetic changes (covers and a scratchplate respray) and a set of Fender tapewounds. The Bronco has had a bit more tinkering (OK a lot). Some for cosmetic reasons (scratchplate respray, cloverleaf tuners); some to improve the sound (blade humbucker, CTS pots); and a set of Status tapewounds. Funny how different two sets of tapewounds can be ... but that's a different story. Having small hands I thought the BB profile neck would be an issue but I find it more comfortable than the jazz neck on my P bass special. The cat in my avatar is having a kip on the CV (before i changed the strings).

If you decide to give it a go you can have the one I took out of mine. I'm not going to need it now. You'll need to find screws and springs though as the ones that came with my new one are too thin and too short. If I get time I could give the photoshopping a go. I did it for my Bronco recently. I was toying with the Avril Lavigne Tele look, before I decided to go cheapo and spray the scratchplate gold to match my P Bass instead. Cool. Mine was pretty good acousticly when it arrived but the pickup was underwhelming. Still I'd prefer that to great electrics and a neck that you can't stop buzzing.

Is that the one with the pink fluffy strap? BTW you were spot on with the intonation thing. I checked and had to pull the G & D back for nearly a centimetre. Didn't really have to change the E&A though.

[/quote] They've arrived (and very quickly too). They sound and feel really good. Didn't think of checking the intonation. I'll give it a go. However I have to drill out the hole on the bridge in order to fit the E string properly - it sticks out the back at the moment!

I was originally thinking of painting the front gloss black but masking/scraping the bevel white going for the black body, black 'plate maple neck look. But my P bass has the anodised gold coloured single ply plate (albeit on a chrome red body with a R/W neck), which I have come to love so I might well go down the gold route. I was Googling the black/maple P bass deluxe special last night and I think it would look good. When I bought the P originally used of BC I was planning to change the plate soon as I didn't think that much of it in pictures but changed my mind almost immediately when I was it in the flesh (so to speak) so pictures aren't necessarily the best way to go. If I try gold first and hate it I can always go over with black. Maybe not so easy the other way round. Your project has given me something to think about next time I get bored and want to do something. Anybody do short scale lefties?

Sorry to resurrect an oldish thread. I am thinking of painting the white pickguard on my project bass. How has the paint lasted so far? Do you use a pick or fingers?

I have just bought a used Bronco for seventy quid to tart up. As it arrived the sound was nothing to write home about. But fitted with on of KiOgon's wiring kits and a cool rail 'bucker I got off the Bay for three quid its a different beast, even with the rather tired round wounds it came with. I'm waiting off a set of Status tape wounds to arrive and toying with the idea of a new set of tuners. The gearing on these seems pretty low and, as described above, they seem pretty flimsy. I can just get the bridge to intonate (the screw is fully extended on the G & D so I'll leave the current bridge on - although I might take the bridge off to see if there is scope to move it forward half an inch without leaving too much of a mess. But overall I'm happy. It's not up to my other basses but its certainly usable. As well as light and easy to play. BTW there is currently a red one on the bay at the moment. 3 days to go, no bids £40 startinging price and £15 delivery but, Stroud shouldn't be too much of a trek from Didcot. Save me from buying something I don't need!

Bought a wiring loom off John for my recently acquired Bronco. Excellent communications and quality work. Very fast delivery. My soldering skills are rubbish so the solder free connections were a godsend. Now the loom combined with a budget cool rail humbucker from the 'bay means it is sounding so much better. Top guy.
