1.

Yep one of those would do for me. Wish they hadn't reversed the P pickup though.
 2.
You can hear a track made with this bass (featuring the nut piezo in places) http://soundcloud.co...mbung/mr-moffat
Love that track The opening reminded me a bit of this -- http://is.gd/xMA3zJ
 3. This is the one they call the 'transparent' overdrive, but quite how the word 'transparent' applies to something that's meant to dirty up your sound I don't know. I suppose at low gain you could use it as a clean boost. Maybe they're referring to EQ, it certainly sounds like a flat, even response (with bass and treble centred) that makes it very suitable for bass. Besides the expected gain and volume this also has bass and treble controls and internally there are DIP switches for selecting clipping (choice of red LED, blue LED or JFET) or +6db boost. The four DIPs can be used in any combination. This has never been gigged and is mint. I have the box and booklet (booklet is online too) but it's fairly self-explanatory anyway ... there's even a guide to the DIP switches stickered on the bottom. Why am I selling ? Wasn't sure if I wanted overdrive, so I bought this as a reasonably cheap experiment and this decided me that I liked it. Since then I've got a few more pedals and this is surplus to requirements. There's honestly no point in posting a pic of my pedal, it's no different to this: Amazon do this for £39-00 plus delivery (unless you wait for super-saver) . I'm offering for [s]£28-00[/s] [s]£25-00[/s] £22-00 including UK mainland postage.
 4. Me neither. The higher octave sounds much more warbley than the pitch box to my ears. Lower octaves don't seem to have much character but that could just be the way it's mixed. Definitely a pedal I'd need to try before buying. Not the micro pog we might have expected, on the basis of that video.
 5. Hmmmm .....
 6.
In reality, as fast as possible to 100ms will cover it, longer is fine though, you just are unlikely to go there IME. Usually I find myself around the 40 to 75ms range, depending on the day, how new the strings are, whatever else might make it feel right....
Mmm .... sounds like a comp specced at 50us - 50ms is only just acceptable at the slow end then :-\
 7.
Blog updated with new, clearer and better (I hope) diagrams describing the effects of different attack times. Hope this helps BBN!
Much appreciated, thanks What's your idea of a minimum useful range for an attack control to cover, assuming the comp is to be used for bass only ?
 8.
I love this board.
Thanks
I could do with Max doing a micro comp (not sure when the much discussed prototype might go into production) ...
The word on TB is that he's flooded with work, doesn't want the extra pressure of a new production pedal, so the comp is on the back-burner. That was a while ago though (earlier this year maybe ?), so it might be worth asking again.
 9.
... i don't like having my pedals much closer together than they are on the board... i jump around a fair bit when playing and stamp down quite hard/ inaccurately on the board, any closer and I tend to turn on things by mistake
Ah okay, so this kind of thing wouldn't suit you then ? It works for me, guess I'm not as excitable as you when I play
 10.
In reality it is highly likely that you would find the level is going to jump down so that the max level is the same, there is a peak of initial attack allowed through and then as the compressor 'hits' it drops the level down to where its ratio setting would put it.
Okay. I was going to draw an alternative diagram based on exactly that, then I thought that's not necessarily how it works, hence my first post. So you think an immediate jump to the new level after the attack period is the most likely way this is applied ? That sounds like it might be easier to implement electronically than what I was suggesting, a gradual increase in compression ratio over the duration of the attack period (as defined by the attack control on the compressor).
The curve that that describes is entirely down to the mechanics of the compressor, which is all about the circuitry or algorythms involved.
I was beginning to think that. Varies by manufacturer in other words.
 11.
no room on the board for a tuner any more, so the TU-2 will have to live on the floor for a bit! I wish that pedaltrain made a wider single-tier pedalboard
I can't tell for sure, but there looks like an awful lot of spare space there, so if it's not quite enough for your existing tuner, maybe some low-profile jacks would help get some more space ?
 12. Si, can I ask a question about this graph. My understanding about attack time (from your talk and elsewhere) is that it imposes a delay before the compression starts acting. If that's the case, shouldn't those 3 graphs finish up at the same point ? After the delay, the same amount of compression is being applied, isn't it, in which case the signals should be at the same level (?). I'm asking this because I'm interested in what happens between the compressor noticing the signal crossing the threshold, at which point the attack starts presumably (?) and the point in time when the attack finishes. Does the compressor progressively apply a higher ratio compression ? In practical terms I know all I need to do is listen for what it sounds like, but I have a geeky interest in what's actually going on ( sorry ).
 13.
Light in the VU meter has never worked since new. Never bothered me.
So far as I can recall (I owned one of these briefly) it was designed to light up, but before they released the pedals they realised the light would cause too much battery drain, so the meter was never illuminated. Like you, I was never bothered about it.
 14.
Right, compressor 'how to' now up on the blog here Which will probably cause more brain sweating than it solves.....
Awesome That's just about everything I need to know about compressors all in one place.
 15. Would I be right in assuming this has 16.5 mm string spacing at the bridge ? So far as I can tell, that seems to be standard for warwick 5's.
 16.
Chris's USA Lakland was lovely .... Amazingly that [...] Chris's Lakland are for sale but no takers, when they're very nice basses indeed.
Having seen the pics in the for sale section I'm even more surprised I missed it. Not one I would have bought, but would have been interesting to compare to my 55-94 (which stayed at home) and 55-02 (which I brought with me).
 17.
Chris's USA Lakland was lovely
How did I miss that !! Enjoyed yesterday, thanks Hamster and everyone else involved in organising. Apologies for the extended ramble about my choice of charity. It's obviously something I feel strongly about (and I wouldn't have brought it up if not for the paralympics connection), but I'll quite understand if the majority view is to go for a music-related charity. Now I've come away with GAS for a Maxon AF-9 (thanks 51mon) and a u-retro deluxe in at least one bass, (thank you 'doom-step' guy, I've forgotten your name) and a desire to really sort out my compressor technology (thanks again 51mon). Oooh .... I left behind my raffle prize of a Precision pickguard, I guess someone would have picked it up. Thinking about it, I'm not sure I'd actually put it on my '79 P (kinda nice to leave it original) so is there some way it can be held back for next years bash ?
 18.
Oh if anyone fancies flogging a distortion pedal o have some cash burning a hole in my pocket :-p
Funny you should say that ... just packed a dano coolcat distortion surplus to requirements
 19.
Looks like the compression talk you did a couple of years ago Si, should make a much needed re-appearance this year...??

Maybe this year he could compare and recommend one knob compressors!
I wonder what he'd make of this
 20.

Oooh ... thanks for that
 21. Interesting bass. The change of pickup positions over the usual status positions, plus the pre-amp refinements (switchable semi-para mids) make this more attractive to me. I don't think I could do a graphite-shell body though .... graphite neck + natural finish on alder would be cool.
 22.
I'm sort of thinking of moving this one on. It's really not my thing anymore unfortunately. Haven't thought about a price yet, so this makes it a kind of 'feeler' post I guess. If I was more sure about selling it I'd have a price in mind and this would be in the classifieds. (Hope I'm not breaking forum rules here). I can bring it to the SE bass bash if anyone's interested. Eclipse Ltd, 5 string. Usual status electronics, vol, blend, bass, treble, bright switch.
23.

I never tire of watching and listening to Bernard Purdie ...
 24.
in terms of odd time grooves, how about this from Zep.
Does my head in. Undeniably funky though. Found this interesting commentary thread with this quote:
It would be almost impossible to dance to. The reference at the end of the song is in humor." I'm just trying to find the bridge." When we first heard the song on the radio we'd have been happy to just find the groove.
25.
How about a nice shifting Polyrhythm groove? 7/16 over 2/4.
I'm not necessarily averse to odd time signatures, just pieces of music where after 2 minutes I still can't figure out where the one is. (and neither can my feet) I like this for instance ... and it has an undeniable groove. Is that 7/4 ? Is definitely a 7 beat groove and I can tap my feet to it.
