1. Really nice compresors but big.
 2.
I have a Warwick Fortress One which holds up pretty well against my MIM p bass for that particular tone and has the j pickup at the neck for more versatility
INteresting. Do you know if the Warwick "P" pickup is the same exact size and shape as the Fender ones ? ie. are they interchangeable with std aftermarket P pickups ?
 3.
Second hand Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn.
These seem to be universally recommended, but as common as rocking horse sh1t. If you've got one to offer, I'm interested !
 4.
<<<<<< Standard MIM P with Allparts Jazz neck, as in avatar.
SOunds like a good option. However, I'd be nervous about swapping necks. Are they all the same size heel etc ? I'd have no idea about shimming. So I'd probably have to pay someone to do it.
 5.
Fender Duff McKagan Signature Precision. P/J config, plus a TBX (treble boost) control. I`d have had one of these in a snap if it had a P size neck.
Yowser, thats a lot of money for a MIM PJ Lozz. What makes it so special for you ?
 6. OK, "if" you were looking for a P sound from a bass but with a 1.5" nut width, intermediate cost (lets say £400-£700), what would you buy and why ? New and/or used. Passive or active is fine. What I've found so far (new) ...... Fender blacktop Jazz (P pickup a bit nearer neck than the trad P placement) Fender P deluxe and FSR sea foam green P Warwick Fortress rockbass Warwick STreamer LX 4 rockbass G & L SB2 tribute. If it has a J pickup at the bridge that is a nice little bonus but not essential for me. Obviously also in that price range are also MIA P deluxes and German Warwick streamer LX 4's and older Fortresses. Just hit me with thoughts and ideas.
 7. Don't forget to mention the uber-wide nut width, to fit in clumsy bass players fingers ! I absolutely love Gordon Smiths, BTW !
 8.
helo there hamfist. would u consider shipping outside UK to say Greece via Royal Air Mail? I'm Interested in this one!!!! if you want to see any feedback here's one from Talkbass.com http://www.talkbass....=114380&u=62669 if you want i can send you my Ebay feedback which at the moment is kind of a pain to find from work. kostas!
Yes, I am very happy to ship abroad. Lets say £90 total, shipped price within the EU.
 9. ON a similar topic - what is it with the Jap measurement of scale ? Their typical bass scale length is 432mm, which is 17". What exactly are they measuring here ?
 10. L series tributes have big chunky necks. The SB2's have J-type necks, 1.5" nuts etc. I have just ordered an SB2 tribute from rock-gear in Germany. It sounds like EXACTLY what I am looking for and , as neepheid states, way, way cheaper than UK dealers for these particular basses. In fact the SB2's seem to be hardly known in this country. On Talkbass, the SB2's are very well thought of. Ah well, I'm getting closer ! At least now I know I want a P sound with a J neck ! Hopefully this SB2 will be "it" ! There is not much decent on the SB2 on youtube showing what it's really capable of, and what it is, is a super P really. THe bridge pickup seems to be more for tone control than useful in it's own right. I like this video of two japanese lads in a music shop arsing around with a tribute SB2 and a JB. They don't know what they are doing and can't play much, but the moment one of them turns the SB2 onto it's neck pickup (at about 2:15) ........ well I love the look on their faces and their comments (although I can't understand them) which seem to say ... "woah, so that's what a P bass is supposed to sound like !" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hougGZ1zpcg
 11.
£70 for a setup?!! Thats way over priced! I wish i was in your area as we offer full setup for £30 and a full fret level, crown, polish and setup for £60 There are too many overpriced, under qualified guitar repair people out there!!
Everything like that down South is about twice the price unfortunately.
 12. I had an extensive try out of one of this model. It was an absolutely cracking P !!!
 13.
Not if you're the Queen.
Good point.
 14.
I noticed the cheaper FSR one. What does that mean? Are the the same as the normal American Specials?
FSR = Fender Special Run. A limited number run of a certain model. In this case it's a varnished honeyburst natural wood finish. A slightly less expensive finish to produce than the poly finishes, so a little cheaper. Identical to the normal American Specials in every other way.
 15. now SOLD subject to final payment. This 2004/5 bass is in very good condition, with a just a few very minor dings and scratches, which the natural wood and clear polyurethane finish hides very nicely anyway. Quality upgrades are ...... 1/ Fralin pickups. These are simply superb and very mid-complex. 2/ GOTOH high mass bridge 3/ Hipshot tuners. Plays beautifully. The neck is slim and comfortable and playability is, IMO, superb. Fretwork is faultless, the neck-binding and the block-inlays have a look of "class" about them. Visually, the neck looks to be lovely and tight within it's pocket. Currently loaded with nickel roundwounds 100-40. I have it set with a low-med action as I dig in pretty hard. Comes with a well used, but effective hard shell case. The tone with these upgrades is simply classic Jazz with all the right frequencies to cut through beautifully in a band setting. Easily the nicest J bass I have played. Shielded very, very well. For a straight ole single coil Jazz with no fancy noiseless (toneless ?) pickups, she is very quiet. My bathroom scales put the weight at 3.75kg, which seems a bit optimistic to me, but I'd say it was neither "heavy" or "light". If I had to guess, and and I do as I have no other way to weigh it, I'd say it is somewhere arout 4kg (8.5 lbs) Please be aware that the CIJ '75 RI Jazzes actually have 60's spacing (generally considered the "standard" jazz spacing) between the pickups, not the slightly wider 70's spacing. See below for some pics and vids of soundclips of each pickup. Bass straight into a mixer and into my computer. Mild compression applied via Ableton Live. No other effects. For sale as I am finding I am becoming a P bass tone man. This Jazz gets close on the neck pickup, but as the P tone is what I am aiming for 95% of the time, I may as well get the real thing. I'll admit that I will miss the uber-funky bridge pickup tone of this Jazz though, which a P can't touch of course.. Anyway, £595 couriered to you within mainland UK. Happy to ship abroad, but please contact me for exact costs. Would probably be asking about an extra £20 for shipping within the EU. No trade offers, thanks. 16. Well I had a really look and play with both an American Special P and a J, at home, on my rig over the last couple of days. I have to say that these instruments are a significant step up in quality over any MIM Fender I have seen. THe fit and finish was superb. The (graphite-re-inforced) necks are just beautiful and clearly made with care and precision. Fretwork was immaculate. The fit in the neck pockets of both basses was nice and tight. THe (maple) fingerboards on both basses were of a satin finish and very nicely executed, and simply felt much more refined than any MiM fingerboard I have played. THe bridges are the standard Amercian Vintage ones, not the high mass ones found on the Am. std series. However, I noticed no lack of punch or resonance and lets face it none of the revered vintage J's or P's have high mass bridges, so it's not something I would personally want to upgrade. The tuners are clearly a slightly cheaper option than the Am.std series, with noticeable machining marks on the blades. Still worked smoothly and effectively though. Again not something I would bother to upgrade The P bass was particularly light (still an alder body though. No basswood here). Tonally, the P bass (the cheaper honeyburst FSR one) was probably the nicest sounding bass I have EVER played. I have been so close to keeping it. I just can't make myself get on with the P neck (which is still fairly slim and narrow for a P). There has been a lot of soul-searching on this decision, and I stil might change my mind ! The punch and clarity on this bass was simply magnificent. I shall probably always regret not keeping it, but I know that I would always struggle with the neck. Despite being of a very high build standard still, the J bass was not quite as magnificant tonally. Still very good, but not quite up to the same standard as the P. I am being hyper critical here, as I am comparing it to my CIJ '75 re-issue with Fralins. I still think this J is great value for money (just over £700 from THomann) and a significant upgrade from a MIM. COmparing both of these basses to a (Mexican made) FSR sea foam green PJ bass I played yesterday, the difference in quality and fit and finish was clear, in neck pocket tightness, neck and fret finish and in tone. Ultimately I will not be keeping either of these basses, although if the P had the neck of the J, I would keep it in a heartbeat. Some folks are bound to respond with the idea of swapping out the neck for a J neck, but I am on a reasonably tight budget and there is, of course, no guarantee that a different neck will reproduce that magnificent tone. Anyway, just thought I would share my experiences with you all.
 17.
I personally had two 50th birthday parties last year
Isn't that impossible ?
 18.
That scratchplate makes a real difference to the look of the bass from standard, IMO. Really nice. May I ask where you got the scratchplate ?
19.
Is this for real? Is this a genuine top end cab with a grand off it? I cant believe it. Are these good cabs?
Yes, they are genuine, top quality but heavy, heavy cabs. SImply not "fashionable" any more and Genz have loads of new lines they are promoting now.
 20. Now sold subject to final payment. Pretty much as new. Bought it in december as a Christmas pressie for me. But I know I'm just kidding myself, I won't be using an envelope filter, and board space is becoming rather precious. It's a seriously funky thing, in the very best sense of the word "funk". I tried this pedal and the MXR BEF. THe EHX does everything the MXR does, and a load more too, and simply sounds more musical and funky IMO. Obviously box and paperwork come too. Runs on Boss-type PSU, not supplied. Save some money on a new one. £85 posted to your door in mainland UK.
 21.
... ah, that'd be a dead give away then.
Ah .... not to a blind man though !
