1. Adding a 210 would sound like a good addition to make it a great modular rig. I'd personally go for the matching Ashdown 2x10, both for visual and tone-matching reasons. THe outputs (both jack and speakon) should be simply all wired in parallel, so you can use any of them at the same time. Just make sure you don't go below a 4 ohm min load. THe crackling sounds mostly like an old input gain potentiometer (pretty easy to change). Although could possibly be a dodgy input valve instead, or poor seating of that valve in it's base. First I'd try re-seating the input valve (the one nearest the input jack) in it's base. If that doesn't change anything, I'd try a known good 12AX7 in there instead of the current one. If that makes no difference it's almost certainly the input gain pot that needs changing..
2.
Have a Xmas bump on me pal! Buy from Sean, he's great!
I actually bought it from him on Xmas eve. Just think he's been offline for a couple of days.
3.
The impedance switch brings the grunt. Everyone should try one at least once.
It certainly does. Also worth mentioning that the pre-amp has internal gain pots to regulate the gain of each pickup when you engage the low-Z (increased bass response) .... ideally to match the mid-Z volume I guess.
4.
Sometimes it's not surprising there are lowball offers. Fenix Jazz bass out at £800 , 75 RI CIJ Jazz valued at £800, Warwick out at £800 when the last one of that model went for £475. One of these I would very much like to buy. It has been up over 1.5 weeks with very little interest. It has even been suggested (on another forum) the neck has been replaced. I won't pay more than £600, but I won't lowball the chap. His current over valuation (in my opinion) is costing him a sale, and me sleepless nights. You know how it is
Lets hope he ... 1/ reads this 2/ works out that you are referring to him and....... 3/ realistically re-assesses the worth of his instrument
5. Funk for Your Ass by Fred Wesley. Somebody posted a youtube of it a few days ago on the site here. I think its possibly the funkiest thing I've ever heard. Defo needing to add some good funk lines to my repertoire and this is a cracker !
6. I like. Very nice. Definitely my sort of thing. SOund like his neck pickup soloed (maybe with a small amount of bridge blended in), with some OD on it. OD from amp or pedal - who knows. I would tend to say a pedal as he retains a lot of attack. 12AX7 OD played with fingers tends not to have quite a s much attack IME. Something like an EBS multidrive could certainly get very close. WOuldn't need extra compression as that much OD would give you that already. ROunds - yes. Defo not mid scooped. THe mids are nicely enhanced and sculpted - NOT a "metal" tone at all. Not too much brightness on top though. DOn't be misled by his "soloed" tone which, I believe, has some sort on envolope filter and/or modulation on it, to hollow it out. Personally, I would have preferred if the the tone had not been "messed" with for those bits. thanks for putting this vid up. Might learn a couple of their choons !
7. Almost certainly a dodgy 12AX7 in the preamp. Try a known good one in there.
8. festive "I'm working all over Xmas" grumpy bump.
9. SOLD For sale, an Audere JZ3 VB 3B pre-amp for standard Jazz bass routing. Came in a bass I bought, but I prefer it’s passive tones to be honest. Maybe I’m a bit old school, but a Jazz should be passive for me. I don’t like fiddling with tone on a bass, finding I'm preferring a set-it-and-forget-it type of approach. Anyway, this has Vol, blend/mids & bass/treble. The “/” indicates a stacked pot. Toggle switch for changing the impedance (low Z, med Z, high Z etc), which changes the tonal response also. LED battery indicator & output jack. All seems to work just fine to me. Very low background noise in use. In the interests of complete honesty, there is just a tiny bit of noise when adjusting the tone pots, but nothing that would be too noticeable. Certainly would never, ever notice it at a gig. Probably like this from new as a lot of active systems make a tiny bit of noise when you are actually changing the pot values when you have any signal going through them at all. Couple of minor scratches on the main surface plate but still gives the impression of being in good condition. Despite the colour on the main pic, it is a normal chrome/silver finish. The pic makes it look a bit gold to me, but please be re-assured that it is not. More info here …. http://www.audereaud...asp?idproduct=5 Pickup wires screw into mini clamps on the preamp. The only soldering/crimping is to connect your bridge/cavity grounds to the white wire in the picture. Easy peasy to fit. Comes with fitting instructions. Please check your cavity size. It needs to be 1.2" deep, 1.1" wide (1.02" at the battery end) and 4.8" long. 10. Swapped my Lakland for John's Fender Jazz (by courier as we live miles away). THis always has the potential for being fraught. However John is a complete gent, and the trade went perfectly. John stuck to his word in every way and we swapped basses on the agreed day. The bass I received was beautiful, even better condition than I thought it would be. Thoroughly decent and recommended bloke to deal with ! Thanks John !
11. Not even a nibble so far, even at this price. What's the world coming to ? Lol.
12.
I say hurl. If you blow chunks and she comes back, she's yours. But if you spew and she bolts, then it was never meant to be.
Now that is an unusual response to the OP's post.
13.
the 212 neo cabs do sound nice i played my headlite with one of the 4 ohm cabs and it was loud!
Yes, the neo 212's are VERY sensitive (in terms of dB out per W in)
14.
These are fantastic basses , and this looks to be a beautiful example . That natural ash is very nicely figured and goes lovely with the maple board . Lakland use genuine American swamp ash for these basses and ship it to the Far East to be made into bodies for the Skyline range . One of the nicest Skylines I have ever seen . Have a bump on me .
Thanks Dingus. It certainly is a beauty.
15.
If I have to respect the opinion that a low ball offer is offensive, don't I also have to respect the opinion of the low-ball-offerer? So his offer is both to be respected, and offensive?
Such a good point that I thought it needed to be restated.
16. I thoroughly recommend the GK neo line. I have the 2x12, and it is superb. Light and not too pricey either. Depending on your volume needs you could get one or two of these. Also gives you the option of using the GK bi-amping as it was meant
17. Outstanding ! Look forward to hearing how it all goes. What's the wait time on these ?
18. OK, I did a redo of the demo video this morning. But I chose to go straight into the pre-amp in my mixing desk, instead of via my bass amp. I'm not sure the 55-02 is a great match to my bass pre-amp, and going straight into a flat hifi (ish) desk pre-amp probably gives the "purest" tones I guess. Anyway is this a better video ? It's shorter also. I chose one riff, which demos all 5 strings, and chose only 5 different pickup configurations, so the whole thing is much quicker for folks to hear the whole array of tones. Anyway the new one is ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9S1vkTTNFs&feature=youtu.be For reference, the old one is ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0PTxf8J-G8 I would value your opinions.
19. Beautiful and congrats. I must get around to playing a Sandberg one day soon !
20.
Are you telling me an offer of £500 on a vintage 4001 isn't an insult ??
Yes, I think you'll find that most of us here do not find it insulting. It is not an offer we would accept in a million years, but how is it insulting ? It is an option, a choice that you are being offered by someone. No pressure is involved here. Why feel insulted, or worse still, be rude, in your response ? good offers are certainly nice, but good manners are priceless.
21.
. Are they the LH3 pickups ? Certainly sounds like it .
Yes they are the LH3's. There's certainly no lack of bottom end on these pickups in use with my proper rig. I have to tame the lows in fact.
