1.
A question for the heavy fretless guys, how do you get on with hearing yourself for pitch and intonation, I'm not suggesting that because it's fretless we have to have flawless intonation etc, etc, far from it...play it how you feel I say.......but doesn't it get tricky with a heavy band to hear what's going on with a fretless? I know a young player who uses fretless with his super heavy band, how he does it I'll never know. I have to be able to hear everything when using my fretless in a live situation just so I can feel confident enough that my pitch isn't too far out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlVET2DXNMM...re=channel_page This is probably not a good representative clip of my band. (IF you listen with very good subs/speakers you can definitely hear the low end coming from the bass. Read on if you can ) However there are two things to watch out for when trying to cut through. For a few months i tried boosting my mids and treble to cut through, it just didnt work at all. Too much and it sounded very scratchy and whenever it was just the bass just playing it was awful to listen to. I paired up the current 1x15 i was using with another 1x15 and there was an instant improvement. Why? More bottom end, you have to have a rig that can steer clear of the bass heavy guitars and completely undercut them, Add a little mids and you should be set! I completely undercut the rest of the band now. There is still room for improvement with the dusty end of the fretboard, hence why i have invested in a 4x10 to go with one my 1x15's see if i can get some nice Mids out of the tweeter and 4x10's. With any luck i will be replacing the bartolini electronics with something a bit more suited for cutting through. Another method of cutting through is to play slightly off the actual note, not enough to detract from the song, just a little, it actually helps amazingly well to cut through. Oh and another method is to play something other then root notes! To make sure i am in pitch takes practice, know the songs, have enough bottom end to "feel" the vibration of the note. Plus lines help We'll be recording very soon after i finish writing a few more songs. Hopefully the Pedulla is up for the job
The maker is Michel Fournelle - website here
Thats amazing! Thankyou very much!!!
 2.
Not really. I keep getting side tracked onto other things. My living-room is like a bloody workshop these days  I dealt with the neck issues (or rather neck pocket issues - aaaaah nobody thought about looking there ) a while back - so that's all good now. I rubbed the dodgy varnish back to bare wood at the same time. some people have since commented on the nice "satin" finish - until I tell them there's no finish at all, it's just bare maple rubbed back with 1500 grade. I love the natural look but I'm constantly humming and hawing about staining it either dark blue or green. I routed and filled the truss rod access groove then veneered the face of the headstock in maple to match the body. I did a TR cover here not long ago and I'm currently procrastinating over a pickguard because I noticed a few fingernail marks appearing from slapping. I've been playing about with paper templates and have settled with something along these lines......... ..... but I'll extend the bottom bit up into lower horn a tad more and I'll take the top hump forward somewhere in line with the 16th fret i think. I've got some nice matt black pg material but I might go with clear if the black is too imposing. I don't know if you knew but I broke the bridge pup (or more correctly my hefty 40w soldering iron did) so currently I have a set of massively powerful Hohner pups in there (courtesy of our own Geoff Byrne's 5er). They are nice but lack that boutique feel that this bass deserves. I lapped them to a shiny finish because of how knackered they were and they look way better than the Barts ever did. I'm thinking about making maple veneers for them too but I know these pups won't be staying in here too long so I might not bother. That's about it really. edit : Oh yeah, I'm considering making it headless too.
I reckon you should go with a clear guard! need to show that maple off! I was personally gonna get some MM humbuckers in there, i reckon they'd work well with the Schack preamp. For the love of god dont make it headless, i'd have to buy it back if you did Cheers for the update!
 3.
Agree it has bits of Zon, Pedulla and Veillette in there but pretty sure it isn't any of them. Firstly though, the original quote asks about Remy Beauchamp. Isn't this Dominique "Forest" Lapointe? That's what the video suggests and from the date that would fit. From another thread I found there was a link to this page, where you can download three short hi-res videos (click on the pictures to download) plugging the DVD. Some slightly better closeups on that but only fleetingly. The OP on the thread that gave the link to the videos also said that Lapointe was his bass teacher at the time, so he may know
You sir are correct! I allways assumed it was Remy as he also played fretless and played for the longest time compared to lapointe. Ah well, lapointe is in a new project here. http://www.augurymetal.com/ However he is using a fretted bass in the this band. Note here is his new bass, which has the same mark on the upper horn that the green fretless has. Theres also a better shot of the headstock with a logo. Though i cant tell what it says.
 4. Hmm the more i look at this the more i am unsure. Looks like Bartolini's here, more proof of a pedulla?
 5.
Isn't it a Pedulla??? BB
This is what i thought first of all, but the headstock is not quite there!
 6.
You shoulda bought the vintage harness for it
True! But then again i like a modern day grindy tone.... Plus it needs a 5th string I prefer a musicman for that Bernard Edwards Thaaaang.
 7. Crossposted from another thread.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_sKnNmO7vk...feature=related Remy Beauchamp's fretless he used in the death metal band Quo Vadis. I still havent worked out what that fretless is or if they make a 5 string version, if anyone can help see the video at 40ish seconds for a close up..... of course mine would have to be the right way up Heres a far better quality video to hear how great a fretless can sound in a death metal band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5ciJcksiEU from 59 seconds onwards. Remys playing and sound gave me the idea to use a fretless in extreme genres and loving every minute of it.... now if only the pedulla can get that lovely sound as well, damn barts!
So can anyone figure out what bass it is? Definitely custom with an interested headstock. Do you play heavier music with a fretless? How do you manage to cut through and keep the fretless mwaaaah? Cheers! Rob.
 8. Bump with added pics in Op! Would Part ex or trade for fretless/fretted 5 string basses

 12.
If it had been a standard badassII instead of a black one, i would have had this. :-(
Dude, just change all the hardware on the fender to black, it was what i was planning before i had to let it go! Would look awesome!
 13. Hey any updates on the 5 string? Would love to see it sorted 100%

 15.
Okay, so I posted a bass for sale on another website, and received an email about it. Great, I thought. Here's how it went down: Maybe I worry too much, and I hope this mail isn't from someone on here, or I'll feel like a douche. But it just doesn't sound quite right to me. I would just expect the buyer to sound a bit more interested in the bass. Not one mention of the bass itself at all. Can my ad be that good that no questions need to be asked about it or anything? And I don't expect everyone to have perfect English, and while its perfectly understandable, it seems almost like it has been run through a language converter or something in places. Actually, that wouldn't bother me, had I not had such a mountain of emails from wealthy Nigerian beneficiaries If I receive a paypal payment and then withdraw it to my bank before shipping the bass, nothing can go wrong, right?
I wouldnt do it mate. Paypal can take money out of your bank account to recoup its money. If not just block the transfer from your account to your bank. Seriously err on the side of caution.
 16. Hey guys. Just bought this off the 'bay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260428089428 Its a early 80's Hamer USA Blitz bass. With a set neck, i got a very good price on it! It has patent applied for Dimazios. So obviously very very early ones! Anyway this post is a pre-emptive feeler just in case i dont get on with it! I had said to myself to never buy a pointy bass again but i just couldnt help it when i saw the Zebra finish! If i sold it on i will sell it for the price i paid of 200 picked up! More pics when i recieve it! Rick Savage played one in the Def leppard video "Foolin" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaSD_TOSQjQ To keep you going with this thread here are some pictures of other Blitz basses!

 21.
Rob, Was great meeting you, a nice genuiune guy, and good to do business with too. Hope your weekend wasn't too bleary. Did you get to go back to Bath in the end?
Yeah it was insane, One of my mates got chucked out of the moles club twice after having 10 pints of guiness in an hour, he was sleeping on the dancefloor! They he got lary with the doorman and we all had to leave by that point. The weekend was insane, i got invited into a three-way, had some lovely bird in her early 30's chatting me up (Had to say no though cause of the mrs!) also a guy who brought his Xbox 360 left it on his first train back and didnt notice it til he was halfway through the journey on his second train! He had to go all the way to London straight after and get to lost property (Which was closed by the time he got there) Spent the night on the platform. He managed to get it back in the morning after paying a £5 idiot tax. He ran to his train home and managed to lose his sleeping bag under the train. Queue a 20 minute train delay to get it out from underneath :S There are many more stories due to that weekend but i cant talk much as i have a bunch of coursework to do! Rob.
