1. Some progress with the jazz bass. Had to get the neck pocket routed deeper and sanded a more rounded butt end to fit snugly into the pocket. Bridge ground wire is in and the pickups. Unfortunately one of the wires disconnected itself due to a "cat" related incident, and will now have to be reattached if possible!
2.
Okay, hope you don't mind. I'm the brand manager for Brubaker Basses and the Brute Series basses. We have 4 and 5 string 34" scales that many of my customers swear gets near great Ken Smith and other tones. I don't have any in your country yet, though. I can sell you direct, however we would need to work a price with shipping. I recommend you go to YouTube and check out Brubaker Basses and also Kevin Walker demoing the Brute. Then, if you are interested, I'll see what I can do.
Sounds interesting, whats the string spacing on the 5 strings?
Ben swift?
Who?
3.
Roscoes 5str may have lower string spacing : mine here http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 is 17 mm Btw nice bass indeed but green dont match with my shirt
Weird I thought Roscoes had wider string spacing on some models, shame!
4.
Any idea if they will fit a Geddy Lee jazz??
No idea! They are advertised as direct precision and jazz replacements.
5.
Trade with Fender Marcus Miller 5 string in shoreline gold ???
No thanks, not really after a jazz bass thanks! Original post updated with trades I may consider...
6. Hey mate, whereabouts in Swindon are you? Cheers. Rob.
7. Thanks for that mate. Is there any sort of protective finish on the fingerboard from string wear? Cheers again!
8. If you can take a photo of it with 19mm string spacing that would be great
9. Hey mate. This is gorgeous! I know the bridge spacing can go to 19mm but can the neck width take it without the string falling off the edge of the fingerboard?
10. Thanks for the ideas guys. Still haven't really decided on anything though...
11. Hey guys. I have mistakenly bought the wrong sets of tuners for my project basses. http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1497.l2649 Both a gold and a black set, the backplates are too big for the headstocks they are going on, short of grinding the plate down they wont go on. So I am selling the sets for £17 posted each. Paypal is fine. If buyer pays fees.
12. Darn, it seems like a 34" scale 19mm string spacing bass is just not out there! I dont mind buying one that does not sound like a Ken smith and modding it to make it be!
13.
I am a member on a Gospel bass player forum and there are a lot of members using MTD Z basses to get closer to a Ken Smith tone. I really like these basses too and you get a lot of bang for your buck. The Andrew Gouche signature model is a lovely bass to play. The only snag is that they are 35" scale, which is not what you are looking for, but I would recommend test driving one if you come by them.
I am very much aware of the MTD's, I can just about handle the 34 1/2 scale on my Grabber, but 35 is just a bit too much! Also the string tension is a bit too much for me as well! Shame as they look darn nice.
14.
I could be all whiny and arrogant if you want?
Well I guess you got the "Cheaper" bit right at least
15. Hey guys. I have a wanted post for something like this. However I have no idea what to look for! I am after something that would sound good in a Gospel sort of situation. Ken Smith is obviously the way to go. However they are fairly expensive! What is a good alternative that I can get second hand which is easily sellable (If I don't like it) 5/6 string, 34" scale and with fairly wide string spacing (19MM would be fantastic). I believe the Peavey Cirrus and some Yamahas come quite close, but I don't think they are terribly sellable. A Ken Smith Burner would be nice, but I find them quite hard to come across! Cheers! Rob.
16. Gotta be the green, you know it makes sense!
17. Wonderful buyer, knew he wanted it and came through with the moolah! Very understanding and would love to do business with George again. Ta!
18.
Doh!
5 Minutes is all it take
19. Pmed on the compact its mine!
