  1. Hi all, Just wondering to get that classic Ampeg sound - whenever I hear it it's always the amp and cab. Never an ampeg head and another cab. When I have heard the heads separately, they just seem to miss something. Could it be the cabs have more magic ingredients in them for that classic sound?
  2. Literally this week I've fixed my rm500 which was rattling. It sounded like a clicking from the power supply when in straight. Pull the lead slightly away and it eased off. Drove me mad. Had a look at all the screws to see what was loose and none looked to be. But I tightened them anyway and that solved it.

    Ampeg cabs

Cheers lozz. Is there much difference to look for between the HLF series and HE etc?
  4. The active preamp is superb. Genuinely superb. Honestly, just turning the bass dial literally feels like a supersonic bomb! The beauty though is the ability to run in either active or passive mode. All basses and situations covered.
  5. Hi all, Just after opinions on Ampeg cabs. Any experiences? Ones to miss? Compact ones? Lightweight ones? There seems to be loads out there. I'll save time and say an 810 is completely out of the question.
  6. Really is so good looking and sounding in real life.
  7. The barefaced 210s are pretty much designed for flexibility rather than volume. The 4-12 ohm switch makes them amazingly flexible. Having the 4-12ohm switch means you can: 1. Use one cab at 4ohms ("louder" than using the same spec cab at 8ohm). 2. Use 2 cabs at 4ohms each - ONLY if your amp runs at 2ohm. Otherwise DONT do it. 3. Use 2 cabs at 12ohm each = 6ohm. 4. Use 3 cabs at 12ohm each = 4ohm - which is what the majority of solid state or class d will go down to. Now, if you're only going to run 2 cabs, it does get you thinking on why not just use 2 8ohm cabs? But, dont worry, x2 210s will be more than sufficient for almost any gig, but you always have the option to add a third cab that you wouldnt have if you had 8ohm cabs.
  8. Hi, I'm sorry I dont have any scales I'm afraid. General consensus on the internet is they're between 9lb and 10lb. It is very comfortable though, and sits very well, so you dont notice any weight.
  9. Never thought I'd sell this, but I've just made a purchase and this has to pay for it. This would be my number 1 bass apart from I'm back in the tribute game and its standard sunburst p bass territory. Amazing look to this bass. Gorgeous semi sparkle vintage burgundy / dusky pink colour. Rolled fret edges - usually only seen on boutique basses, making for a super comfy playing experience. Ebony fretboard. Super comfy and lovely sounding. Alder body - very comfy and great sounding. Heres it's great versatility- its BOTH passive and active. It can be used in passive mode (still using master volume, tone control and pick up blend). Then at the flick of a switch it goes into active mode with an unbelievable pre amp. 15db cut and boost of bass, mid and treble AND a parametric dial for the mids so you can choose exactly what mid frequencies to cut or boost! Looks beautiful, sounds amazing. Great price. Bought in lockdown, never been out the house. Immaculate condition. These are sold out everywhere with a long lead time. Probably even longer with the covid situation. Sticker shown in photo since removed.

No I didnt. I got stung. Then got sent an external link to it. Anywho, lesson learned. No more posting valuable goods. Others can if they want.

No. They ask you what you are sending. Then let insure it to it's full amount. The items are not on the prohibited list. They are however on a separate list thats not easy to find saying what they will be fully insured upto - regardless of what you have insured them for. I would say if they not on the prohibited list and they try to sell you insurance for the full amount then that is unfair to then not insure them to the full amount. Its misleading at best.

Also, people dont realise the cardboard box is essential. I had a cab years ago that I sent. Wrapped in bubble wrap, and in a full protective tour case. And it arrived damaged. Courier wouldnt pay out as it wasnt in a cardboard box. Despite me showing photos of the hard case and insisting that is what is used to transport these cabs. No cardboard box. No compensation.

No, but parcel 2 go and others terms are. Theyll let you book. State what it is. Insure upto it's full value for extra and find out your not covered for anywhere near that. Regardless of whether or not that courier covers instruments. I'd say thats pretty ridiculous.

Having a quick look at interpacels site, it just mentions the following: 1. Must be in a designated protective hard case. 2. Must be wrapped and protected in bubble wrap. 3. Must then be transported in a cardboard box as well as that.

Yes, look at say, parcel2go. Insure an amp or guitar. Specifically put bass amp or bass guitar as description, so there is no confusion. Then take out the extra insurance to it's full amount- say £500. Then all that is overwritten by the companies t and cs which state in very small print that your not covered for certain items (regardless if you've stated it was specifically that) or iflleven if you've taken out specific insurance to fully cover it. I'm sure amps are only covered via p2g for £100. I'm not sure guitars are covered at all.

I've sent several basses with UPS. By far and away the best I've found. However..... There are 3 main ways to use them, so beware..... Firstly, dont use them via a compare site. The compare sites have ridiculous terms and conditions and mostly dont cover basses or guitars and amps only upto £100 - regardless of you fully insure the package or not, and regardless if independently the courier does insure them. Secondly I found UPS seems to have 2 almost identical websites and services. I think the one which pips ups forst on google is for big business (but you can still book an individual package through it) and the other is aimed at individuals, covers guitars, is very easy to use, cheap and no quibble over size or weight. Could it be you accidentally used the one aimed at big business and haulage? Hence the generic weight per dimension calculation?
  17. Hi all, Just wondering what the market is like for good 1U bass amps. Theres a possibility I can free up 1U in my rack, but no more. So i could use the 1U for a back up amp. Specifically needs to be a bass amp (not just power amp) with a bit of character and eq. I know 'good' is subjective, but I think you know what I mean - any decent make (subjective again I suppose!) that will do a good job. Must be 500w approx if a class D. I know the 200w amps are good, but they would be found lacking in this set up. Cheers.
  18. New rig for me at the moment. At lot of re jogging, selling and replacing due to covid work situation, but I'm really happy with this. Blisteringly powerful and versatile. Ashdown ABM 600 evo iv (main head). Ashdown RM500 (back up head). Ashdown tone pocket for practicing. Korg pitchblack tuner. Line 6 G90 wireless unit. Ashdown ABM evo iv cab. Cheeky markbass keeper on the side to hold the bass. Current main bass Fender Player precision.
  19. I know..... spent years waiting for that rig. However, times are tough so have to use my brain for once! Managed to pick up a great used ashdown cab to replace these. Its twice as heavy as the barefaced cab, but that's the pay off. Luckily our practice room has an identical ashdown cab in the room, so I can get away with not bringing mine and using that, and just take mine for gigs!
  20. The fact it was 2 amps - a valve and a mosfet - was brilliant as you could blend them, use one or the other, and even have a backup should a valve go down. Laney were great too. Very quick to answer any questions.
  21. Yes I had one. It was lovely. Great build quality and sound. In no way Ampeg like, bit nice valve sound. Manageable, but it's that nice youd want a case etc which makes it really heavy. You can pick them up dirt cheap if you're lucky.
  22. Begrudgingly selling due to work or lack of it during this pandemic. Both are pretty much as new condition. One is literally a month old. Both have the 4ohm or 12 ohm outer switch, meaning you can run a range of ohmage options. Ie 1 cab at 4ohm if using alone. 2 cabs at 12 ohm for a combined total of 6 ohm, or 2 cabs at 4 ohm for amps that go to 2 ohm. Super strong grilles on these. Very lightweight. Around 14kg. Extremely loud. Without losing any definition. Simply brilliant sound. Thes also come with expensive hotcovers in leather look pvc. Very well padded and custom made full wrap full velcro cover. So no side is left unprotected at all. So, in all a stunning lightweight, expandable rig, that can even be extended more. So you can run 3 of these cabs at 12 ohm, at a 4ohm total. I'll offer both together first. If I can sell both separately then I would be up for that. Currently these are £629. The covers around £60. Approx £700 in total. So big savings to be made. PS obviously the amps etc are not for sale. Just the 2 cabs and 2 covers.
  23. From what I've heard (whether it's currently true or not is a different matter) only venues that are SPECIFIC live music venues, that open only for live music and no other reason are allowed bands indoors. Even then they have to get special dispensation from the council to open and put events on. All events must be ticketed only and seated only and finish within set timescales.
  24. I think the more you buy and sell, the less bothered you get. It was a great thing to sell lots in the past - even if for necessity. I just remember that band with that bass etc and move on. Theres nothing i had that I really wished I had back. Perhaps my 1990s usa precision, but the new player I have is just as good.
