  1. Yes, maybe its trial and error until they're happy? Maybe they use a german courier to britain, then one in britain for britain? Maybe that's more efficient?
  2. Well....its just arrived! Came with a customs paperwork attached, but nothing to pay (under £130).
  3. Just little alarm bells. The fact it's from a mobile number instead of a short number. The fact they dont know where its come from. Even 'Germany' would make more sense than 'German'. And the options to reply to them. I can understand in an app like dpd, but not replying to a standard mobile numbers text. Also, the last delivery was from UPS. But, we'll see if it turns up.
  4. Well, I ordered another pedal from thomann on tuesday afternoon / evening. Got a sketchy looking text this morning saying delivery is due today, and gave a one hour time slot. Supposedly from parcel force, but sent from a mobile number, and included a tracking number. It mentioned the place I had ordered it from as 'German' not 'thomann'. It also gave a few options to reply. No thanks. So, it looked like a scam text, but I copied the tracking number and put it in parcel forces own tracking system, and it came up as legit, and from the correct place in germany ordered from and to the nearest hub to me - so maybe it is legit. It gave the delivery time as between 10 and 11, so we'll see. I'll be mightily impressed if it gets here so quickly.
  5. This is a HARLEY BENTON PB50 I got used a few weeks ago. The seller wasnt honest - the description wasnt truthful concerning condition etc, but I'd gone that far I bought it anyway. I've added a white scratchplate, rather than the standard black. It's a decent fit, but theres just a tiny bit of overlap near the control panel. There has been a logo added instead of the Harley Benton one. Its passable, but not brilliant and wont fool anyone in the know, but looks ok. Everything works as it should. Pick up sounds good. The neck and back of the bass are in good condition. However the lad I bought it off didnt tell me about the condition on the front, which I will show in the photos. Theres a knock in the bottom corner, but in a weird way it adds to the look of the age of the bass. Theres another knock/scrape near the left hand horn, and a weird scrape somehow. There are also 2 holes for an ashtray cover which didnt come with the bass (buyer said they were included). All in all it's a very passable bass. These do get really good reviews. I just want to be honest in the description. You cant get these anymore without the extra hassle of adding 20% vat, and importing from Germany, and any courier costs. Hard to price as it would be worth keeping if I had to sell for less. Certainly a great insight to these basses, a good back up bass, or great for modding. Any questions please ask. Know what you are buying. This is NOT a fender. It is NOT a pristine bass. £90 Pick up Leyland.
  6. Westone Thunder I. Great first bass. Easyish to play sounded nice. Fender USA precision sunburst (90s). Felt massive compared to the westone. Really wide neck. Sounded good though. Westone Quantam Headless. Quite small and compact to play. Decent sound. Looked good. Bitsa jazz. Spent a fair bit on this. Lovely colour, a reddish sunburst type. SD quarter pounds. Heavy. TTfunk logo on the headstock. Shine white jazz. Cheap, but ok back up. Rockinbetter Rick copy. Played this in a function band. Decent sound. Looked cool. Arbiter double neck guitar and bass. A rare find. Way to austentatious to play live though. I quite liked the humbucker sound. Couldnt play guitar for love nor money, so a pointless purchase. Shine telecaster bass. Horrendous neck dive. So bad it couldnt be played. Yamaha BB424x metallic red. Loved it. Looked real cool. Sounded great and had a number of great sounds in it. Yamaha BB424 black. Not as cool as the 'x' version, lacked a bit of mojo, but nice bass. Vintage v4bl in black. Great value. Converted it into an all black and gold p bass for a tribute band. Sounded good. Vintage V4 icon sunburst relic. Very light. Good pick ups. Looked ok, but obviously not relic'd. Just painted on. G&L l100 natural. Great bass. Heavy ish but quality. Good sound. Would last forever. G&L M2000. I found it very hard to play as I kept hitting the humbucker as I was used to a p bass. Sounded real nice. Sold because if the batteries went the bass stopped working altogether. A bad design fault imo. Fender FSR 70s precision midnight black and gold. A work of art. Looked beautiful. Sounded amazing, very raw and bite like. Very light. Slight neck dive, but easily manageable. Sire v7 burgundy. Lovely bass in every way. Looked stunning. Sounded stunning. Had a wealth of controls. Worked passive and active. Sire v7 lake placid blue. As above. Sire p7 sunburst. Did not like it and had to return it. Even though it had been set up it had neck buzz issues eventually making it very annoying. Knobs felt flimsy. Sound wasnt brilliant. Shame as I so wanted it to be as good as the v7. Burns bison black. Great looking, heavy bass. Completely unique sounds in it. Certainly not meant to be a plodding along type of bass. I had a strap pin fitted into the point of the bull horn as the standard one on the back of the body made the bass fall away from you when playing. Slight buzz issues in some settings due to the tri pickups, but not heard when playing. I'm just not sure it would stand up to long term touring. Also it's a standard neck length, BUT, the neck isnt fitted deep into the body like other basses so you're about 2 to 3 frets out from the normal position, making it a longer stretch to get to the first few frets. Fender Player precision sunburst. Fantastic bass. Very comfortable. Great looks. Great sounds. Great price point. Westfield purple sparkle precision. Love the finish on this. It's a rare sparkle purple finish which would cost twice as much as the entire bass and a black pickguard. Parts are fairly cheap but useable. Eventually I'll add a geezer wiring loom and pick ups and give it a whirl gigging. Harley Benton pb51. Picked this up a bit worse for wear as a cheap 2nd bass for gigging in dodgy venues. Added a logo. Added a white pb51 scratchplate. Looks good. Sounds ok. Cost next to nothing. Spector legend 4 holoflash. Genuinely, I think the spectors are the best built basses I've ever gone near. They're just a work of art. Beautiful design and the build quality and finish is devine. Lots of different sounds available and very very comfortable to hold and play. This holoflash finish is so different to anything I've ever seen. Spector legend 4 black cherry. As above. But less flashy! ------ So... out of that list the ones I have a little yearning for, considering the sound, look and mojo, and would buy back in a heartbeat are.... Yamaha BB424x metallic red. Fender FSR 70s midnight black gold. Fender Player P bass sunburst (still have it). Both spectors. Sire v7 in burgundy.
  7. Hi all, Any experience playing these? They seem to be quite highly rated at a decent price. Decent colours and spec too.
  8. D5's look nice.
  9. Almost impossible! Cant find any over here, and not many in the rest of the world. Thomann seem to have a few still in stock though.
  10. I had ups and thomann updates by text if this helps: 1. It said is was due on Monday morning (6 days after ordering). 2. Then on monday afternoon it said 'delayed'. 3. Eventually it recalibrated to say delivery due the Monday after. 4. Then on the Friday it said due on Tuesday between (11 and 3). 5. It turned up Monday afternoon 4pm. So, I think we have to bare with the couriers and distributors at the moment. We are only a month in, so problems are be expected, as frustrating as it is. There will be things that need updating, but I'm sure itll be fine soon.
  11. Silver peg ordered
  12. Certainly nails that Led Zep Heartbreaker tone!
  13. I'm now so tempted by the other preamp pedals - silver peg etc - have you tried any of those?
  14. Its also responsive the harder you dig in which I really like.
  15. Apologies - it really DOES drive! You just have to turn up the volume knob on the pedal. That affects the drive and break up.
  16. Received this today. Already love it! It tiny (around spectracomp size) and very well built. It runs on 9v adaptor, but also takes a battery if you havent got an adaptor, which was a nice surprise. Sound wise I'm very surprised. It's very versatile in that you can go from warm Motown style to pretty much bright clank and many sounds inbetween. It doesnt overdrive or distort (at low levels anyway) but has a real nice sound. I've never had an original acoustic 360, but this does a very good job of supplying 360 sounds I'd heard before and a great sound in it's own right. It's really brightened up my precision. Love it.
  17. I got a pedal from thomann. Less than £135 in total. And that's all I paid. Took just under 2 weeks from ordering to receiving.
  18. Itd be a 1x12 for me. Lots of people practice and indeed gig with a 1x12. I just think if you get a 2x8 and it doesnt work, you'll be stuck. If a 1x12 doesnt work you can always add to it and have a modular rig. To be honest if the 1x12 doesnt work, it's a fair bet the 2x8 wouldnt have done.
  19. Managed to snap this up in great condition - Spector Legend 4 in Black Cherry. Mint condition, superb build quality and looks great. I always find the Spectors sit lovely when worn. Very easy to play somehow, and no back ache! I got this as it's a bit less showy than my current holoflash spector! Weirdly this one is Indonesian build and the holoflash Korean - I think the Korean one is slightly larger and thicker? Love them both! Great basses.

  21. Just remember it has jack outs only, so you'll need at least x2 jack to Speakon cables as well.
  22. It's good when you get used to it. It's different to the ABMs in that you dont have to max the input to get the drive valve working properly. So the sound can be achieved at a lower volume setting.
  23. If I remember rightly, as a youngster in the 90s, trace gear, fender basses etc were SO far out of the reach of start up players it's hard to comprehend nowadays. They cost a fortune. Probably the equivalent to a few months wages for someone in their first job. There was no real second hand market (near me anyway) unless your local music shop managed to get something in on part ex. This also kept prices very high. In context my first bass amp (straight out of school) was a second hand gorilla 30w guitar amp, as it was all I could afford, and that was about 2 weeks wages! My next upgrade was a used, knackered carlsbro stingray 90 head and terrible no name cab - that set up cost me trading in my old amp and £200. So again a big payout for what was a load of rubbish. No decent second hand market meant the high end gear like Trace was also marketed at everyone from seasoned players to full rock stars all in the same promo material - and in a strange way it made it more desirable. Something to aspire to. Those catalogues bring back some great memories. Not necessarily of the actual gear, but the aspiration to own one.
  24. That's were the concept falls down for me. Putting a tiny, small powered amp through a small 8ohm 2x10 in a large room is never going to get loud. You kinda need a large 4ohm cab (410) to get loud volume and max power from it. Then you're bringing a larger heavier cab to save a tiny amount of weight and size on an amp head. Itd be more efficient to bring a larger amp and smaller cab (2x10, 2x12 etc). I played the elf through a 30kg ashdown 2x12 cab and it only just coped (luckily we always di'd too). It was much quieter than a 3kg 500w head through a 1x12 cab. But, a band we gig shared with played an elf through a 4x10 old trace cab (DI'd) and it sounded awesome. But he had to lug around 40kg of cab around. Made no sense. However if trace developed a lightweight 410 and incorporated the head into a combo it would work much better.
