1. Heart attack??!? You were lucky - I'd have killed to just have a heart attack and die! First I had to steal all the gear I was gonna use, and got away with it by the skin of my teeth. Then during the show my arms fell off, so I had to do the rest of the set with my feet. Then some bright spark threw anthrax powder in my face and took a cheese grater to my 'nads... You don't know you're born you lot!
2. Duly noted, I've been looking round the web today as well, and it seems the problems with the Gripmaster that have been highlighted in this thread are incredibly widespread.. shall advance with caution major! I'll make sure to keep myself well-hydrated with water (not Carling?) and remember to relax when I'm playing Thanks again guys
3. I don't know what else to attribute the sudden surge of strength in my little finger to - previously it wouldn't be able to hold down the low E string particularly easily on it's own, now it's a doddle..
4. Also check out 'Uprising' by Muse - plays the same rhythmic groove all the way through.
5. I had an allergic reaction to the other band's anti-perspirant 5 minutes before we were due to go on.. I pent the entire show looking like I was crying my eyes out.. Worked for Comfortably Numb, not so much 21st Century Schizoid Man
6. ^ Maybe not so for you, but I've noticed a distinct improvement in dexterity and grip in my left hand since I've started using it. Passages that before were messy and indistinct have since become cleaner and easier to hear properly, and generally better played. [s]Have you a link for the tendonitis thing?[/s] Never mind, a more refined google search gives me evidence Thanks for your help guys, I know it was an easy thing to figure out but sometimes you need the obvious pointing out to you
7. Sunderland Street, not too far away from the train station
8. It looks superb! Shame I'm not a fan of 5's really, otherwise I'd be pushing you for a part exchange or something, esp. considering how close you are.. Off-topic, but I see you're in Macc - are you familiar with Shackley Motorcycles? The guy's son is my drummer
9. Well, people like to stick with what works for them. And luckily for Fender, both P and J styles tend to work extremely well for a lot of people..
10. Fender. I'm a Jazz man, and there's nothing quite like an old Jazz bass for me.. Nom.
11. I'd be interested in trying one.. I'm not convinced that it was a good idea by Fender just yet though..
12. GJones, I only use Jazz basses now, so circulation isn't really a problem. Thinking about those questions, I think it is because I dig in more live so I can hear myself. Thinking back to last night I was really hammering the strings.. Perhaps time to relax a little more?
13. Tbh I do very little exercise during the course of the week, short of walking during the course of a normal day.. Luke, I originally had my bass in such a position that my plucking hand was more or less straight. I moved it up so it's in more of a middle-ish position, always keeping my wrist straight :/
14. So this has been happening for a while now - during a show the muscles on the underside of my forearm seize up, seriously inhibiting my ability to play at any kind of speed (it's the plucking hand that is affected - my fretting hand is fine). Does anyone have any physical exercises that they use to get round similar problems? I use one of those Gripmaster things already, and I stretch well before the show.. I've also changed the ride height of my bass, and the problem STILL prevails.. Help?!?
15.
Who were the band?
A metal band called Ashes Befall. Since you're a fellow cheshire bloke you might have heard the name.
16.
I meant technically, cos she ain't.... but you're quite right, there's more to it than that of course.
I think because she has such a clear understanding of the arrangements and how to construct a show, she places most of the onus of a Beyonce show on Beyonce herself - after all, you wouldn't go to NOT watch her, would you? So it seems to me that Div plays exactly what is needed and not a single note more - and this is what makes me like her, the ability to play the bare minimum and (to me, anyway) still make it sound brilliant.
17. My 2p... A bass player in my opinion should intimately know the purpose of a song, and indeed the kind of energy the song is trying to create, and therefore support the creation of the desired energy with appropriate choices of rhythms, notes and the like. As for taste/technique.. Taste is entirely subjective, but there's no denying that the 14YO kid on youtube doing triplet sweeping in 12/8 at 300 BPM is cold and clinical.
18.
So even if you did see Flea and Les together they might still be the same person, just one is from the future. Flea was also in Back to the Future (2or3??)
Or one is from the past... You decide. He was in Back to the Future.. Pretending to be himself in the future but in the past, acting like it's in the future.
19. I've heard that the Flea has a TARDIS. That just kinda tips the inter-dimensional scales for me..
20. I don't, no - I will definitely look into that when I get home tonight too! I'll zap you my email address too
21. Still very much Zender, and now Divinity Roxx.. She makes me wanna pick up my bass and never put it down again..
22. I like to think that Mr. Peart would flip him off, laugh, and then buy the guy a beer after the show before riding off into the sunset on his motorbike... I understand why drummers do that, but nearly every soundcheck I've witnessed (minus festivals and stadiums) involves a run-through a song to check that everything works and make sure the drummist is limbered up. I have to say, I feel lucky with my drummist being so disciplined and well behaved ^.^ With regards Divinity Roxx, I've found a new hero! I've been checking out a lot of her stuff outside of Beyonce, and it's flippin great! She's an inspiring bass player to listen to.
