1. Gutted. I adored what I knew of his work, which admittedly was only really The Blues Brothers Band. Such an inspiration. RIP.
2. After a few listens, I can say it's a solid rock track, but I have a few complaints.. That Bastille Day fill is tired, and the phasing on the semi-quaver hi-hats has been done in a million other rush tracks o.0
3. I love it! Might have something to do with the fact that I wet myself with happiness everytime I hear that song, but yanno..
4. The ridiculously fast necks, the sheer versatility in sounds that can be attained, stunning good looks and the sentimental value attached to them!
5. I have a band called Nobody's Heroes - does that mean Stiff Little Fingers are going to come hunting for our heads?
6. Alrighty, thanks Ian, I'll get on it right away!
7. The sepcs over on the Fender website tells me that the neck has a polyurethane finish, so it's literally a case of cleaning meths and a rag?
8. Alright guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with the fretboard on my VM Jazz - it has stained a nasty green colour around frets 3-5 on the upper 3 strings. Now I know I'm a sweaty mucker, and so should have been more diligent with my cleaning of the f/b and strings. Has anyone had similar problems with their maple necks? And what do people use to clean their f/b's safely? A bit of research suggests that EB WonderWipes will do the trick, while lemon oil (which I use for my rosewood f/bs) can damage maple. What say you, BassChat?
9. I think a lot of people bash albums that are accepted as not particularly good without realising the importance of that album - Vapor Trails, while being (imo) Rush's worst album with only 2/3 decent songs on it and horribly mastered, is quite possibly one of Rush's most important albums in the entirety their career - Peart had come to terms with his losses, and had managed to bring himself to write lyrics and music again, and had rejoined Lifeson and Lee. Likewise Metallica's St. Anger, may not be the most organised collection of riffs ever, but in terms of the band it was an absolute necessity if Metallica are ever going to be the creative force they once were (still waiting for that day). I like the new stuff from Rush, I accept that it's different, because they're different people and different musicians now from what they were in 1977 when they were still riding the waves from 2112 and producing Hemispheres and Farewell To Kings. And that's one of the best things about Rush, they're so divisive. I've met people who only like the 80's synth phase albums, people who despise said 80's phase, people who will only listen to albums after Presto. It's a mix bag really, and I think that Rush are just in another phase of theirs. IMO, IME, YMMV
10. That little fill Ged does at 00:26 sounds familiar... I'm tempted to say Bastille Day?
11. It's good, as songs go, but not really my cup of tea. Reminds of stuff like the guitar pop bands that were popular in the middle of the last decade or so..
12.
Best tell the drum manufacturers their terminology is incorrect then Bass Drum Spur Bracket(Starclassic Maple) TAMA's MSB30 die-cast bracket holds the spur bracket securely, thanks to the same powerful hinge mechanism used on the MTB30 mounting bracket.Unique memory markers found on the folding spur bracket help simplify set up
I'm not saying people who say 'bass drum' are wrong or right, I'm simply saying that the phrase 'bass drum' irritates me.. It doesn't HAVE to make sense yanno
13. I do it on big rock endings and when I'm playing chords on all 4 strings.. Just adds to the 'metal' factor I suppose.
14.
TBH I thought the 2 meant the same thing
Bass drum and kick drum mean the exact same object yes, but my drummer just says 'bass', so it really irritates me..
15. Bass drum instead of kick. A small thing but can be so confusing in the studio if your drummer is lazy with his vocabulary and just says 'bass'. 'Shred'
16. Most definitely QI and Deal Or No Deal I'm surprised nobody's said Seinfeld yet...
17. That's nothing. I had to walk for a full half an hour this morning. You guy think YOU got it bad..
18. You've already said you're a lightweight - this is a good thing. It indicates to me that you know exactly where your limits are. I personally don't have a problem with drinking at rehearsals, provided all the parties involved a) know their limits and concentrate on actually rehearsing. So, I'd say that you should voice your concerns and see how they respond. It goes without saying also, never exceed your own personal limits, and don't let yourself be pressured into drinking more than you can handle.
19. I can't say I'm a big fan of slap bass tbh, I'll pop a couple of notes every now and then to really push them through, especially on octaves, but otherwise I'll stay well away from it..
20. As long as it can be driven and is really really loud, who cares? Also, why do I just instinctively know that whenever somebody says 'What is the best XXX for..' I can finish their sentence for them?
21. Because my ear skills aren't exactly brilliant, I usually look up the chord progression then noodle till I get something that sounds right - I cue all expression and feel from listening to the original track on youtube or spotify, then I go into the rehearsal room and hammer it out with the band until it sounds good. Obviously I take a lot more care and attention to detail in learning songs with iconic bass lines, I remember spending a month solid trying to get 'I Want You Back' down. My 2p
22. I personally find it really offensive to mime artists, people make good money to pretend they can play an instrument!
23. Subscribed. I'm linked to Facebook too, so y'all can find me on there if you're so inclined. 'Jay Hall'
24. And it definitely wasn't a feature on the famous bass player known for using Rickenbackers?
