1. I've been gassing for one of these since they came out, and I would buy this if I hadn't just placed an order last week for a 1025X! Listed as a 2025X but is actually a 2025: http://r.ebay.com/S0BUX7
2. The road worn is like the classic 50s but with added character - it's not old but it sure looks it!
3. Put up a wanted ad for the bits you want, loads of people have spare bits and bobs lying around as part of unfinished projects but can't be bothered to list them, but they will sell if they see a wanted ad!
4. Cheers, I'll look out for some. Is it a simple case of sanding down to the bare wood, brush it on, hang it up to dry and repeat for a few more coats? Gotta get myself a body first though, on the look out for an ash Jazz body on the cheap...
5. I fancy putting together a frankenbass, and I love the look of the matte black finish Sandberg offer: Does anyone know if it's possible to get such a finish using simple off the shelf black stain / oil, or have any tips for which products to use and how to go about getting a good looking result?
6. I use a pair of Ampeg SVT210AV's - cheap, light, and a perfect match for the OTB.
7. Swap it for a fretted P?
8. I spotted some new inactive headings at probass.co.uk, home of the Retrovibe and Vantage ric-a-likes. They are named Zygote, Warbird and Evo, but that's all we have to go on for now! SX basses are mentioned also. I emailed David and he said he'd let me know when he's ready to show them off. Warbird - a cross between a Warwick and Thunderbird perhaps?! http://probass.co.uk/Home.html
9. I would plump for the VT / Tonehammer over the P-Retro, that way you don't have to mod your bass and you can use it with your future Jazz purchase also.
10. Check out the VT Bass and DHA VT1! Should be able to find both for well under £100 used.
11. Yes thanks - although I don't think I'm going to buy one without playing one first. It's hard to tell for sure from clips but I think the BB is still the bass for me!
12. Thanks, much appreciated!
13. Is anybody out there with one if these able to record some clips? Particularly interested to hear how it sounds played aggressively and how close it can get to Precision territory on the neck pickup!
14. Musofinder and Partysounds also!
15.
Dunno about most, within certain genres maybe. Even the SVT is fairly clean up until its cranked into drive. Loads of bass is done straight to desk, can't really do much cleaner than that. Like Motown.
A lot of Motown had quite overdriven bass, from driving the desk inputs too hard! Check out Bernadette for example.
16. I was after a BB1025X but now I'm thinking I'll keep my BB415 and perhaps get the 5 string version of this TRB instead! Didn't realise these were a new range.
17. Closed cell foam from ebay, cut with a stanley knife and holes made by hand with a large drillbit:
18. Perhaps at the factory? The MIJ PB70 basses have the late 70s logo like that.
19. Oh, and if you get it right make sure you post your own YouTube video! That girl's video was spotted by Jamiroquai and they flew her out to meet the band and play with them live on stage during their tour. Also Stuart Zender recently gave her one of his Warwick signature basses for free!
20. I decided to tackle the same song while back, took me a few days to nail it! I searched all over the web site the best way to play bouncing disco octaves but in the end came up with my own way. Easiest method at first was the low note with the thumb, followed by middle, index. If we number the fingers starting with the thumb at 0, it goes: 0 2-1, 0 2-1... However you don't get a good attack from the thumb stroke. It looks like that girl plays it with two fingers only, which involves a lot off string skipping. Either: 1 1-2, 1 1-2... Or: 1 2-1, 1 2-1... I play it this way, which is apparently uncommon yet feels most natural to me since all the fingers roll off each other: 1 3-2, 1 3-2 And the variation: 1 3-2, 1 3, 1 3-2, 1 3...
21. The VT usually suffers from the exact opposite problem, sound like something is up.
22. I can attest to the T40 sounding incredible through this amp!
23. Doh! Just sent you a pm! Will have to get myself to Bass Direct to try one out.
