1. One other possible suggestion - the older SWR heads can make great power amps if you plug into the "power amp in" or effects return. My Alembic pre works well with a Studio 220 (louder than you'd think) for smaller gigs or a Stereo 800 for the noisy stuff. They get hot, can have noisy fans etc but could be worth looking out for?
2. I got one from the wenge front on my old Wal (where there was a worn dip in the face) and again when I did a Shuker build - every time I picked up a piece of the stuff. Its very long stiff grain works like a spear. But its fine as long as you don't get the rough end....
3. And watch out for splinters...ow!
4. Its typical seller/dealer talk such as ....."all original, except for".....meaning significant elements aren't. Emphasis remains strongly on the original, whilst also acknowledging the later modifications. No biggie
5. That price makes my lovely mojo'd 1973 fretless J neck (incl tuners) looks like a real bargain....in a for sale section near you now....but back a few pages, probably.
6. I read on the interweb that Jaco did have a Steinberger for a while (but never paid for it or returned it). So I wonder if he ever got a burpy Jaco sound out of one.... As I remember, it was bought in a pawn shop years later and the serial number was matched up with the factory records. I've never seen any evidence of him playing one in public, so chances are he couldn't?
7.
That was actually a joke. I don't really know why you disapprove of them so much.
Phew ....its not disapproval, just pure fear. When I first heard of them it was a sort of morbid rubber-neck curiosity, but now I've seen a bunch of photos and the odd YouTube moment...I'm just scared I might like them in the end. I can "get" the Carl Thompson thing, and the Birdsong thing....but, so far, not the Wish thing, even accounting for the prices. Its just too folksy-hippy-can'tbearsedtoitright-whoneedsatrussrodanyway-dangnabbit. Where's my banjo. If that makes any sense. I should probably just get some sleep.
8. Yes mate...but I've got soo many sessions/rehersals/gigs to do every day, every week, for the forseable future it could be difficult........but really yes, that could work fine. As long as I don't have to look at it...or inspect it, or anything like that. Signed for unopened...I don't want any of that pointy knot-ridden bark of doom stuff anywhere near my nice innocent truss-rodded Jazz basses and Cliftons. They're all so nice. Go on, tell me the bark was an extra charge item.
9. I'll sleep better tonight...thanks Oli.
10. Now I'm just plain scared....that bass must be only about five miles away from me. That's too close.
11. That's just what they're like round there..like...like. Except the posh 'uns. They's worser....
12. When you say lightweight....how light do you need?
13. Now you've lost me.....does it go to 11?
14. Its in a box..going under the stairs in a day or two, when I sort it all out again....any offers considered, but cash is king, of course...
15. Always glad to help a poorly Wal.....good to hear it may be sorted.
16. First thing is to find the plug/connector that joins the pickup wire to the circuit board. Give it a wiggle/press and see if it restores the signal....if it does, then carefully remove the plug, give it a clean and replace. Pickups don't die very often. Also its always worth waggling the jack plug/socket. Makes you feel better if nothing else......
17. One last bump, then its under the stairs while I save for the perfect PJ body....
18. I was just thinking...wonder if Nick would be interested....
19. A very long time ago I experimented with two amps/biamping etc. I discovered a world of earth loop hums and odd phase cancellation effects (that made you inaudible in one part of the room but deafening elsewhere), and I quickly decided it was better just to get one big amp.
20. Cheers to Beedster for the above comments, and a quick bump.
21.
Hey BassBod, where are you playing? My missus lives in BOA. Hope it was a good gig!
The pub near the station - Three Horseshoes? Or Crowns? It was fun - jazz in a rock pub.....mmmmm...nice.
22. Plugging should work fine..get dowel of a similar size and use Titebond. I'm guessing the Hipshot supplied screws are significantly smaller than normal "fender size" - but that is odd, as the Fender ones aren't exactly big. Maybe go for a standard finder style bridge instead?
23. Welcome from another Brizzzzler - playing in Bradford-on Avon tonight....can't wait!
24. I think the Innovation Honey (140H?) set are ok with magnetics - the core is synthetic but the wrap is metalic enough to work. Couple of years ago I had a set of the L'aBella black plastic strings (steel core wire) and they were very nice, and just a bit forgiving on the hands than Spiros.
