1. If there ever was such a thing...that would be my perfect Wal. Its even got the optional DI output fitted (brilliant idea). Really wish I had a few grand spare! Best of luck with the sale

That's the spirit...but don't forget that each bass may also need different preamp/amp types to get the most out of those expensive strings. I think vintage tube mic pre is the only way to go, personally. If you're going to do it, do it Prropperr, as they say here in Brizzle.
3. I hope alcohol is responsible for this......but it could be Bilbo, I suppose.
4. I think that's just his fuzz/distortion effect - probably from the Acoustic 360 preamp. Larry Graham also used a similar sound in the early 70's...good isn't it!?

I'm trying really hard to pretend I didn't read that. I can't afford to get experimental with DB strings..and I've just got used to Spirocores again, just so I don't have to think about strings!! But you might want to PM Greg Cordez on here - he's got some lovely gut things going on......
6. And there was a Superfilter going in the For Sales a few days ago.....
7. It's all a bit crap really, isn't it? Got an email describing the exciting new changes a few days ago...but nothings changed yet. I may be a bit old fashioned, but its just daft to announce something that simply isn't ready. A sure way to kill off your business......
8. Congratulations dear boy! Wonder if Danny can remember 40??
9. Bump - still here, still almost new.....played another set of these on a gig with the EUB on Sunday. Reminded me how nice they are to play, with a bouncy feel and warm sound. Mmmmm Jaazzzz.
10. Another thought. One of my favourite bits of kit is an old (mid 70's) F2B preamp - a Fender passive preamp, but built by Alembic to survive. It has. Worth considering a "lower end" used Alembic bass (with a pro setup), and also a used rack preamp. The F2B or F1X will give you fantastic traditional tones (with any bass) and the Superfilter gives you a big taste of the filter eq that is in the Series (expensive) Alembics. Would be fun and you could get your investment back, provided you were careful and picked things up for average prices?
11. The two screws per pickup is just their simple height adjustment. Its really two underneath (control the height) and two above that act as simple lock downs. If you don't know that its easy to over tighten the visible ones and crack the pickup casing. I was a former owner of the Epic 5 fretless - it was heavy (why I let it go in the end) but had a fantastic sound and was a great bass...for the secondhand price! I like Alembics, and still own an Epic 4 string. However, I could never pay anything like the new prices (even with dealer discounts). There are so many other things I have to do with the money!
12.
Many do yes, if they're exposed to the elements for long periods, this one is remarkable though, just like the bass. The plastic tends to crack, and the lining go's musty and rot, not this one, although it does smell musty, the bass is not stored in it, i use a hard shell case for protection. It also still has the 'Artistic Products' label sewn inside.
I've always thought they looked like a good design - be nice if someone made a high quality copy out of some of the modern fake leathers, with good zips etc. I know it wouldn't be cheap but I'd buy one!
13. And the original plastic leather bag for the Pbass....now that's impressive - don't they just decompose with age!?
14. That bass sounds very, very good....thanks for that. Like I need another bass!
15.
Excellent!!! All we need is my GK MB112S and SWR Baby Blue 2x10 cab (nicked in Bristol in about 1992) and we will all be happy!!
I saw an SWR Baby Blue (2x8") a few years ago in Rikaxe in Bristol - struck me as an unusual thing to find in a shop like that! Can't exactly remember if it was a combo or just the cab, but I think it was a cab.......
16.
Sounds like the fan is doing a good job ;-)
You're probably right. I'm just used to my SWR stuff, which gradually works its way from cold up to red hot and then prompts the horribly noisy industrial grade fan into action for twenty mins....even if you don't play a note.
17. My EA Micro has a fan, not very noisy but you can hear it on a very quiet gig. Not a problem, but what puzzles me is why its there at all. I've pushed the amp on a few occasions and it never gets even the slightest bit warm..yet alone hot?
18. HHhhmmmmm.........shouldn't we be talking about pickups and strings again by now????
19. I saw him on Thursday, and whilst I really enjoyed the show, I can understand your disappointment. I saw him twenty odd years ago, knowing virtually nothing about him, at Band on the Wall with Norman Beaker (and I think Simon Phillips on drums!). That was a real experience, and I've never since seen anyone perform with the conviction and zest that he showed. His fretless playing was not brilliant, intonation frequently a bit iffy...but he was also singing like I've never seen before, and you felt that he meant every word of it. I saw moments of that on Thursday, but even though he is much older and has had significant health problems, the wit and the edge are still there. His bass playing didn't have all the energy I saw years ago, but it was just as rough at times...verging on free form jazz from the seventies. Not something many people would be allowed to do these days, outside of a Spinal Tap tribute act. One thing I really liked was that he was working with a new generation of great players, and seemed to be enjoying it (especially the drummer). I think the volume of his amps was causing some problems on stage....and the vocal were getting cut back to avoid feedback, but its his gig, so I can forgive him that!
20. Mine was built with a Fishman (old BP100) glued to the bridge...still works fine and sounds very good. About ten years ago Mo sent me an early Gage/Realist and its been on there ever since - works very well, even though the sound is a bit "dark". Its a doddle to fit into a flat top!
21. He was quite honest with a heckler last night "well..go get your money back then...that's what I'd do. Demand it" At his stage of the game I guess he's really not fussed what people make of his Scottish Folk music, and interesting fretless style. I enjoyed the gig last night. A lot.
22. But I bet you've got the pedal board that NASA forgot....or thought they'd left on the moon....
23. Nick, Do you realise you've turned into Mr Sensible Rig? Functional, reliable, economical. Sometimes, you must need that little something extra..bright box...paradiddle IQ....envelope licker.....something with lights, that flash.......
24. The Contego is very comfy on the back, but the storage potential makes you want to pack too much stuff and that makes it pretty heavy! Its surprising how a decent preamp/DI and leads adds to the weight when you're carrying it across town.
