1. Looks like a Gol. I to me.....
2. Well spotted! It was originally built around a '66 (dot and bound) neck....then parted out by Walbassist. Now has a similar neck by Wes Steed. Very light weight and sounds fantastic. Still fancy an older style Pbass...
3. Actually... at last calculation any one of my current basses was worth more than my car. Think I should be saving for a new (old) car, rather than looking at nice old Fenders! Or maybe just get another job..... BTW the Jazz in my pic is mostly Bravewood!
4. Oh yes...that's the one. But I wouldn't ever trust myself with a real one....its worth about ten times more than my car! Nice job on the relic version - that must have taken some time and effort on the modern poly finish!
5. The Armstrong is essentially a bass guitar pickup..so I'd treat it the same way. Best results I had with one (on EUB) were straight into a Sansamp bass driver DI...set for about two thirds flat sound, with a third of "effect" blended in..drive about half way. Bass boosted a tiny bit beyond half way, treble and presence mid way. Its important not to have too much low end - has to be set to suit the stage or you just loose your definition and get turned right down in the FOH. Set the amp for a little bit less stage volume then you'd like...but just enough to feel comfortable. This gives the PA a post eq signal (which I found is what that pickup needs), but its not crazy and shouldn't cause any problems out front. Taking the DI send from the Sansamp is usually accepted with no complaints as its recognised as a "good DI". I know that its better to send pre-eq etc and its a bit of stealth eq, but it worked for me. Eventually, I just moved to a Realist pickup, of course!
6. Lovely....but I'd prefer a pristine one, just like Monk Montgomery's Mastersound bass.
7. Nice playing and singing...impressive! I've never found blending different pickups makes much difference through an amp live (but recording on separate channels can be useful). I had an LR Baggs Para- DI for a while and I thought it was great (with just either a an old Fishman BP100 or Realist). Usually ran it into the effects return of the GK combo to avoid the GK preamp/eq. It was really designed for acoustic guitars/mandos so it had a built in filter below about 80Hz to reduce the boom/thump that piezo pickups can produce. I think it also helped when DI'ing into bigger PA systems, as there was less subby/low frequency in the DI output. Which Fishman are you using? My old BP100 was superglued in place, and it really improved the sound. Often they work better fitted to the underside of the bridge, as it is usually flatter than the top. The luthier that fitted mine moved it about a bit to find the most even sound, drew round it in pencil, then stuck it down forever. Still sound the same about 15 years later.
8. Now that's a possible deal you could wait a long, long time for! Mind you, its a still a big thing to cart around for only one or two songs in a set....assuming you haven't got crew to do that for you.
9. If there ever was such a thing...that would be my perfect Wal. Its even got the optional DI output fitted (brilliant idea). Really wish I had a few grand spare! Best of luck with the sale

That's the spirit...but don't forget that each bass may also need different preamp/amp types to get the most out of those expensive strings. I think vintage tube mic pre is the only way to go, personally. If you're going to do it, do it Prropperr, as they say here in Brizzle.
11. I hope alcohol is responsible for this......but it could be Bilbo, I suppose.
12. I think that's just his fuzz/distortion effect - probably from the Acoustic 360 preamp. Larry Graham also used a similar sound in the early 70's...good isn't it!?

I'm trying really hard to pretend I didn't read that. I can't afford to get experimental with DB strings..and I've just got used to Spirocores again, just so I don't have to think about strings!! But you might want to PM Greg Cordez on here - he's got some lovely gut things going on......
14. And there was a Superfilter going in the For Sales a few days ago.....
15. It's all a bit crap really, isn't it? Got an email describing the exciting new changes a few days ago...but nothings changed yet. I may be a bit old fashioned, but its just daft to announce something that simply isn't ready. A sure way to kill off your business......
16. Congratulations dear boy! Wonder if Danny can remember 40??
17. Bump - still here, still almost new.....played another set of these on a gig with the EUB on Sunday. Reminded me how nice they are to play, with a bouncy feel and warm sound. Mmmmm Jaazzzz.
18. Another thought. One of my favourite bits of kit is an old (mid 70's) F2B preamp - a Fender passive preamp, but built by Alembic to survive. It has. Worth considering a "lower end" used Alembic bass (with a pro setup), and also a used rack preamp. The F2B or F1X will give you fantastic traditional tones (with any bass) and the Superfilter gives you a big taste of the filter eq that is in the Series (expensive) Alembics. Would be fun and you could get your investment back, provided you were careful and picked things up for average prices?
19. The two screws per pickup is just their simple height adjustment. Its really two underneath (control the height) and two above that act as simple lock downs. If you don't know that its easy to over tighten the visible ones and crack the pickup casing. I was a former owner of the Epic 5 fretless - it was heavy (why I let it go in the end) but had a fantastic sound and was a great bass...for the secondhand price! I like Alembics, and still own an Epic 4 string. However, I could never pay anything like the new prices (even with dealer discounts). There are so many other things I have to do with the money!
20.
Many do yes, if they're exposed to the elements for long periods, this one is remarkable though, just like the bass. The plastic tends to crack, and the lining go's musty and rot, not this one, although it does smell musty, the bass is not stored in it, i use a hard shell case for protection. It also still has the 'Artistic Products' label sewn inside.
I've always thought they looked like a good design - be nice if someone made a high quality copy out of some of the modern fake leathers, with good zips etc. I know it wouldn't be cheap but I'd buy one!
21. And the original plastic leather bag for the Pbass....now that's impressive - don't they just decompose with age!?
22. That bass sounds very, very good....thanks for that. Like I need another bass!
23.
Excellent!!! All we need is my GK MB112S and SWR Baby Blue 2x10 cab (nicked in Bristol in about 1992) and we will all be happy!!
I saw an SWR Baby Blue (2x8") a few years ago in Rikaxe in Bristol - struck me as an unusual thing to find in a shop like that! Can't exactly remember if it was a combo or just the cab, but I think it was a cab.......
24.
Sounds like the fan is doing a good job ;-)
You're probably right. I'm just used to my SWR stuff, which gradually works its way from cold up to red hot and then prompts the horribly noisy industrial grade fan into action for twenty mins....even if you don't play a note.
