1. Cherry burst Gibson Les Paul PLUS my blue P bass - could almost be a pair with Wayne's checked plate Jazz?
2. Can I have second dibs if it falls through please? Cheers Andy
3. Hi mate - dont use this app but do use Pages on my iPad for lyrics to new songs which I then attach to my mic stand with an iClip attachment. Also use the clock on the iPad to keep track of where we are in the gig. Useful things. Good to see a fellow Leeds fan on the site. A very sad day for Leeds - 12 years since the horror in Turkey. RIP Chris and Kev Andy
4.
Nice - is there any/much neck dive?
No - perfectly balanced. Just a weighty beast!
5. Ha ha. Good luck boys! Told you I was a bit smug!
6. hahahaha - you got me.......I was looking at that horror thinking "surely not?....."
7. Forgot to say - the seller described the bass as about 8.5 out of 10. He must have high standards, If I had bought this new - I would have been happy. Not a scratch or a mark on it. Also, the one in Dawsons has a fairly crude joint at the neck, this one is perfect. Happy and a bit smug boy! See ya. Andy
8. Debuted the Les Paul last night. Really liked it. It is a tad heavy but seems really well balanced. I used a fairly wide padded strap to compensate for this. The first thing I noticed is just how loud the pickups are. I also used an active Stingray and the LP was noticeably louder. The pickup sourrounds offer a handy place to rest your thumb too. I found the blended pickup selector worked best for me with more through the rhythm than treble. The bottom end is immense and the top is really zingy and bright. Not sure I'll ever use the far extent of the brightness to be fair but versatile I guess? It also sustains really well. The only slight "moment" was when the top bl@@dy strap pin pulled out mid song, I managed to finish the song kind of with one leg supporting the beast. Cue quick swap to the Musicman. Looking at it today, the screws were a bit small considering the weight they have to support. New screw used and it feels nice and secure now. Using again tonight so hopefully no more hiccups! (other minor downside is that the case is so nice, I am worried it'll get knackered in the van. Will be transfering in to another today he he - not really a problem) Anyway, here's a few pics as promised. Feel free to drool boys and girls! Andy
9. Watch this space - will letya all know tomorrow....
10. Finally bought a Gibson Les Paul bass. been GASing for one for ages and finally got my hands on one in glorious cherry sunburst. It weighs a ton but sounds mega being a huge slab of mahogany. Was the only bidder on EBay. Exact same model on sale at Dawsons in Leeds for £1449 so I am well happy having paid £690. Debuting it tonight at my gig. Cant wait. Sorry to be crowing, just had to share the joy! Andy
11. I'll have it if it falls thru. Cheers. Andy
12. Success - had a tinker with the truss rod, restrung and abra cadabra - the buzz has gone. Useful link though, thanks all Andy
13. Thanks guys. Will have a go. Appreciate th advice. Andy
14. So in Clouseau style I have found the truss rod. I guess is trial and error to try and fix? any tips? assume I should make tiny adjustments until the buzz goes? Do you think I should try myself or get to a luthier? Thx Andy
15. Hi - I recently bought an accoustic bass and was fine when I picked it up. Have used it a few times now and its lovely however, it has suddenly developed a fret buzz at about the 3rd fret on both the A and E strings. There's no truss rod visible. I've tried packing the nut and the bridge to raise the string level but it's still there. The neck looks straight but I wonder if it's warped being in a new environment? any suggestions on how best to remedy? Wasn't new so I cant take it back to a shop. Advice needed and appreciated Andy
16. I can wholeheartedly recommend this gent as a seller. A lovely guy. The guitar looks great am sat here pondering on whether I need another P bass.....temptation is a terrible thing. Andy
17. Can vouch for that. Leeds O2 Screamadelica bottom end was bowel loosening.
18. Quality. See u at Heaton Park fella
19. Just bought a cheap used PA mixer amp by Kudos as a back up. Model looks like 8/2 PX. Can't find anything on the web about them. Seems like a solid quality piece of kit. Anyone know anything about them? Andy
20.
Thats just a label, a lot of it was R&B really..or was Dr Feelgood - for example - not punky enough for you then ??
Ooh no, love trad guitar R&B in fact, the first gig I ever played was supporting Dr Feelgood. I mean that vocal gymnastic twaddle my kids listen to Rihanna etc....
21. It's already been said here but when you look at the music that was charting (and yes I realise that's not the full picture) there was a ton of dross, just watch TOTP 1977 thats been aired at the moment, something was needed to inject some energy. To suddenly see bands like the Pistols and The Jam on TV was truly amazing to a 14 year old like me. Energy, great songs, attitude and the look plus your mum and dad hated them - what's not to like? There is a place for all music (except R&B of course) but in my opinion, Punk is the genre that has never stopped being exciting and remains my first love.
22. Ugleeee. Yak
23.
we're not
Got to agree there Jon. Yours and my band are poles apart. Its all good for the punters though....
24. Was the Hallmark Hotel in N Ferriby. The place and people were nice enough just the bloody inductive loop. Good luck bro. Andy
