1. +1 on the Gold bass lead. Had mine for over 2 years. Nice retro look, solid feel, good sound, and generate envious remarks from guitarists. As for the packaging. Wow. A magnetised flap!
  2. Excellent guy, great to deal with and the Euro 4 LX he sold me is as mint as described and wonderful to play. A real pleasure doing business. Cheers Geoff
  3.
If I'm not mistaken, that bass is a Roadie II Active - pretty much identical to a Mark King model but with a black headstock facing and no DI. Nothing that makes a jot of difference to the sound really.
I've had my Roadie II Active since 1992. And always returned to it despite some dalliances and affairs with other basses.
...and the bottom is passive tone which was originally wired to be in parallel with the active eq. However a simple mod can let it run alternatively to the active eq when the active eq switch is used.
I'm interested in that option. Any wiring instructions for that mod? Mine works in both active and passive. Though, to be honest, I doesn't work too good in either in that it effects the tone immediately and then further adjustments have no effect. is it broke? or a function?
The five digit serial number was introduced some time around the late 80's I believe. I went to check the Jaydee serial number database but its no longer on the Jaydee website
I just emailed John recently ([email protected]) to find out mine was from 1988. The database has been unavailable for some time.
  4. If this poll had been 3 months ago I would have said 6, but have recently gone back to 4. Wasn't making the most of the 6, and now enyoying the "limitations" of the 4 even more. Should I sell my 6 string, or hang on just in case the urge strikes again? Never played 5 strings. Good poll.
  5.
Jeff has approached us as well through Funkle, so stay tuned while we work something out.
That would be amazing. Ever had anything like that before on Basschat? Just finished going through the massive Berlin Q&A Talkbass thread. Some interesting stuff in there about practising (quality over quantity) and learning (get a general music teacher, not instrument specific).
  6.
but some of the reactions were revealing perhaps?
Quite. You don't know what you've got until it's gone. Relieved it was a joke (and a good one). We should all hop over to donations now http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1708
  7.
I’ve almost given up on bass. Feel very uninspired to play at the moment. I like to waste money on bass related stuff to make me think I’m a bass player at the moment though 10,000 hours is a f***ing long time. That’s 5 hours a day, every day, for almost 6 years! I could do that, I just don’t want to
How many hours do people actually play/practise a week? I probably managed 5 hours playing in bands and 3 hours practise this week. So that would be 25 years. Maybe if I spent last time on here I could put in a bit more time ;-) Surely it's the quality of those practice hours not just the quantity.
  8.
Anyone know the URL to the website with all the compressor test reviews on? It was posted on BC recently. I found that was a good description of what bad compressors don't and what great ones do!
This one? compressors
  9. Hi I bought the RC-2 Loopstation off Hamster. Super easy transaction, speedy delivery and nice piece of kit. Many thanks
  10.
a Jedson bass at 13.... it was sh*te!....looked like this: ...followed by an Audition bass from Woolies!... it was 'shop soiled' (string missing & ding in scratchplate) so I managed to haggle with the shopkeep from £26 to a tenner!....was well chuffed! ... anyone have a pic of an Audition bass?
That's the same as my first one, aged 15. With flatwounds on. It just went thud thud thud. It's a wonder I persevered. It looks kinda cool though, no wonder I got it.
  11. The Cowboy Bebop series was my introduction into anime. Highly recommended, and the music hits you from the start with its amazing title sequence, and continues through 26 episodes or so. Written by Yoko Kanno and played, so I thought, by her and her Japanese group.
  12.
isn't it the same as the nut you get on Gibson truss rods? You need a little socket to fit - try it with pliers and you'll mangle the soft brass up, and that would be naughty.
Hi. That's the one. Had a look. It appears to be 5/16-inch, and you can get a specific tool... http://gear1music.com/Ovation-Peghead-Styl...le-GB&id=uk Thanks
  13. Hi Can anyone tell me what they use to adjust the truss rod on a Jaydee Roadie? I've been searching and searching and found nothing. It appears to need a socket of some kind. Not sure what size, and it has to go down quite a narrow hole. It's not an Allen key like normal! Do I need a specialist tool for this? Any help appreciated.
  14. a rather belated pennies worth from me. Did you get a six string in the end? I have played a sixer (moving up from a 4) for nearly 3 years now. I got the urge for no particular reason, but when I tried a few they had an immediate impact. Though the neck is wider, the string spacings tend to be closer than a 4 (at least as I perceive them), and I find that easier even though I have quite small hands, and with the extra strings top and bottom, there is less need for big neck jumps. I don't slap, but I could see it would be harder with 6 strings. They are of course heavier. I have a Cort Curbow 6. I seldom play my 4 string now. I would be interested to know how many people on the forum own and play a sixer regularlyl. Is it easy to set up a poll on the forum? As for looks. They are pretentious, but cool. Though when you see a player with a sixer, there can be expectations of monster talent, which I for one, always fail to deliver
  15.
Spaking as a professional electronics engineer, and amateur bass player and music lover: Not being funny, but if directional cables make any difference to the sound of a system then the laws of physics don't apply to audio electronics and someone should be getting funding from NASA and CERN to do a phd on the subject ;-) The main reason hifi shops push expensive interconnects and speaker wire is because their margins on audio gear have been cut to the bone, but there's still huge markups to be made on 'special' cables - it's also very easy to get a customer to think 'well, I've paid 2 grand for that system so 200 quid for cables isn't much relatively speaking'. From what I know of OBBN's philosophy to cables he uses the best, toughest, most reliable parts rather than snake-oil that's the product of a marketing department. All that is required for wiring speakers within a cabinet is that it's of sufficiently low impedance to be insignificant compared to the voice coil of the speaker and the output impedance of the amplifier, and be adequately insulated, and that sort of cable does cost pence; you can spend £££ on silver cable or Litz wire but the only reason it'll sound any different is because you know it's there.
Here's my speaker cable recipe: 1 metre of 20A Figure 8 XS73Q twin power cable from Maplins (2.12mm2) - £1.99/metre 2 Neutrik Speakon 2 pole (NL2FC) @£2.89 each Take one penknife (to strip insulation) and 1 small phillips screwdriver. 5 minutes later and I have a speaker cable. Total cost £9.12 inc VAT. You could buy thicker cable (25A is 3.53mm2 @ £2.49/metre). .

Looks interesting. Thinking of getting a posse together from Bristol. Would have to be Saturday for me.
  17. A further price reduction. Now £200! A real steal here. It's then off to eBay.
  18.
If this is ANYWHERE near as good as my new Genz Benz Neo 2x12 this is a STEAL! Have a bump for a superb make of amp/speaker!!
Thanks (belatedly) for the bump :-)
  19. A further price reduction. Now £225! A real steal here.
  20.
Don't worry. You're forgiven Welcome to BC
Much relieved, thank you.
  21. Thanks for the kind welcome. Glad I have not upset people. And you're dead right about getting a profile up there for buyers, let's hope it gets some interest in my cab for sale
  22. Hi there Slap me someone for my thoughtless lack of etiquette. Here I go trawling the posts on this marvellous forum and then posting something for sale without introducing myself. Apologies to all. I've been playing bass on and off since I was 16, and now 30 years later, still loving it. I have a Jaydee Supernatural, a Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz, and a Cort Curbow 6 String which is what I play mostly at the moment. I play in 2 bands, a jazz group who have even managed a few gigs, and a group of work colleagues with whom I have mucked about with and had fun for over 5 years but never played a gig (much to my embarrassment). I have a Roland Cube 30 amp, a Genz-Benz Neo-Pak, and a LS115, a BOSS RC-2 Loop Station, and a Digitech BP50 pedal. Usual influences (Squire, Pastorius, Lee, Mick Karn, Percy Jones - all of whom I have seen at least once). I have a wide range of musical likes, jazz, fusion/metal/prog, classical/opera. I go to quite a few gigs, travelling where necessary, though my ears are starting to suffer. I live in Bristol.
