  1. He was mentioned on page 1: Also: Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer Too tired to remember more people There are many.
  2. The Doors did use bass guitar players to some extend (not live AFAIK), but in this case it's Manzarek's left hand on the Fender Rhodes Piano Bass, and through some electronics. He might just be overdriving an input, Idunno. I've never seen him use organ pedals with his tiny combo organs, but that doesn't mean he never used them. I agree with EliasMooseblaster about the idea of a bass and an overdrive. The exact sound is hardly important for this song even though the overdrive part seems important to me. Me, I'd use a compressor as well so as to govern the decay as well as the oomph. Oh, and playing one octave closer to where the dust starts. 😃 BTW, for those few that might be interested, and I'm aware I'm being a foot fetish nazi here, there's no such thing as "foot pedals", much like there are no "hand pedals", "hand manuals" or "foot manuals". @Teebs, have you seen my nazi TLRT? Must've mislaid it.
  3. At this point, I think it's best that I don't comment.
  4. Hm. Why did you just ask him whether he was still available? Why not give him some info about what your band is about? The ad was still on, so the assumption is that he's available (yes, that assumption is often wrong, but still). He answered your question. When he asked the very reasonable question "What's it in regards to?", he most probably did NOT ask you what it was "in response" to. To my mind, he was obviously asking for more information regarding your project - info you could have given him right away. You seem to even recognise this very concept in your own example: "in regards to flashing in the park". Then, you still did not give him info about your band and project.... I'm sure he's on drumchat.co.uk right now, shaking his head in disbelief. Me, I'm on BC right now, shaking my head in disbelief. I think he may just have dodged a bullet here.
  5. It may be a Dutch thing. I'll try and explain. Sorry for the wordiness. It's really too late for me to write posts. During Franco's reign, we were flooded with tales about Spain and its men in power - typically like: Some official person somewhere revels in interpreting everything as unlawful or subversive etc., and then with great rigidity - which is both a personality trait and an acquired taste - won't give in. In his mind it's a weakness to let people live their lives. Bullying them is good for the ego and good for the state. Something vaguely along those lines. At least where I lived, or in my circles, Spain was consistently used as the example of everything bad.
  6. 😱 Reminds me of Spain under Franco.
  7. Search Spotify for "basstractor"...
  8. I know I repeat myself when under stress, but... "Total Mass Retain" tells it all. Stunning! (for the uninitiated, that's the second movement of "Close to the Edge".)
  9. Aye. Somebody (not me) counted that the band used 30 different instruments on stage. Ray also sang difficult parts in polyphonic and poly-rhythmic segments, IMS whilst playing bass. Mind-boggling. Monster musician, whilst not being Chris Squire. 🙂
  10. Good point. In my own circles, we decided some decades ago that "progressive rock" was rock that changed the face of music, and "prog" was that certain style we love or hate - - whether it was progressive or not. Worked for me. BTW, another vote for @EssentialTension's Ray Shulman of Gentle Giant. Monster player.
  11. This thread was about realistic stuff. Then this. 😉
  12. No, twas Emily Bluntë you saw first, and we are backing off.
  13. Sorry. I meant Hull upon Tyne - - the ferry port that has a Denmark Road. 😁 Seriously though, I was just attempting to kid. Hence the expressionless emoticon with almost a tongue in its cheek. One tiny cell in my near-brain opined there was something about the words "Denmark Road" that sounded off, and when I then finally found out what it was, I started wondering where they might have a road of that name, and thus thought of Hull and Newcastle. That's all. Sorry for the confusion, and no malice was intended.
  14. Slight misunderstanding here. The OP is about the shop in Newcastle Hull. 😐
  15. What does it mean though? I understand the AC/DC thing here, but E A D G ? Doesn't ring a bell. 😐
  16. Just want to say I know that place, and feel you're right in the notion. Thanks for posting it, as it might be helpful to someone out there. Also, thanks once again for posting it, as it also confirmed that I've gone some miles since I was in that same place as you are. If I take care, I can now have resolutions, and work at them every day (or at least each day me health allows me to). One step at a time, eh? Good luck, and all the best! bert
  17. What a load of rubbish, and you have no evidence whatsoever. When I post under my @Osiris moniker, I consistently use a completely different language and reference frame. Also, under that moniker I'm the erudite guy. I don't really wanna pick a fight with you, but it's very tempting right now. ...but you know that.
  18. Yup, for the first time since I was a kid. I'm gonna turn more and more of my walking into running, and plan to "compete" in an autumn hill forest run, where I should be able to make the list in the age group 61-65. This year, a guy over 80 was as fast as I was. Next year I wanna run like a 75-year-old, and the year after that like a 65-year-old.
  19. You're a genius! Also: "Listen, love, this was way too cheap to let pass. The seller lost 800 quid on it, ya know..." 😀
  20. Not necessarily, as my life exemplifies. Live, I've played more with jazz ensembles than with any classical ones, and all of that was because of my studying classical music, and meeting people at music college.
  21. I agree with one of the posters above. 😁
  22. Happily, at least one person wasn't offended by your shooting from the hip. See, I only understand 24% of BC, and your shooting from the hip has consistently been in the other 73%. (BTW, my arithmetic isn't up to scratch either.) But yeah, great site, and one I'm very grateful for. Like you, I've had very demanding periods, and BC has proven to be one of the best medicines available to me. Not wishing to hijack the thread, but: thanks, folks!
  23. The way I remember it, the Rick ban has never been about discussion or pics - just about buying and selling. I think it was even specifically said we could discuss and post pics as much as we wanted. AFAIK, the whole core is that if someone sells a copy (calling it a copy or calling it the original), that RIC then can sue if they think it's a copy. The owners and admins of BC can't be expected to be able to spot each and every infringement, and so the logical course then is to ban all selling of Ricks and copies. Of course it adds to the fun that such a ban is also saying a resounding "up yours" to RIC, but OTOH, as mentioned above, RIC might not care, as all they're interested in is selling new ones, and people not able to find a used one might go for a new one instead. BTW, as long as I can remember, all I ever wanted was some Rick basses. However, I've never bought one, and never will. Instead, Music Man have seen five of my moneys (and yes, I do think there's a huge difference between John and Sterling).
  24. "Take care of your labia! LABELLA!"
  25. You Brits always find the most exquisitely polite way to express "and shoved it down the guitarist's throat"
