1. Have a bump on me..... I just bought exactly one of these - Recent Stingrays go for about 7/800 quid it seems at the moment and the Sub is a real bargain. And whoever buys it needs to fit some black pickguard screws :-)
2. Cheers RR Its the volume or lack of it that's the bother for me. My lot are pretty noisy. And I've got used to having headphone and aux in facilities too.
3. Thanks Mr EBS freak!
4. Have a 'bargain alert' type bump for free!
5. I have been offered an EBS HD350 amp as a straight trade against my Blacktop Jazz that I have up for sale at the moment. The amp is new and boxed old stock. I was having a tentative think about one of these a while back so its a possible goer but I wanted to get some opinions before I commit. I currently use a Gallien MB Fusion 500 or Benz Shuttle 9.2 into a pair of Barefaced Big Baby 2 cabs and play in a pretty noisy rock covers band. Both amps are easily enough volume for any gig I currently play. The EBS delivers 350 watts into 2 ohms - will I have a headroom problem with it? How would you describe its family sound? I don't like Ashdown whumpy type sounds and prefer clean, thick and zingy with some chest thump. Is it worth about £400 if I decide to move it on? Thanks for any opinions
6. The wood pattern can really vary on the Euros. Ive seen almost plain ones, highly flamed, deep quilted (like mine) and some really mismatched ones. Think its pot luck on what they have kicking about and you need to see it in the flesh really.
7. Here you go........ £40 http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40192356/
8.
Thanks! I think it'd look really good on you.
No it wouldn't It would be stuffed up somewhere dark by the missus cos I'm still in trouble for buying a Musicman last week.....
9. Think of the fingerprints! Black is bad enough...
10. Ah i see. I like the inlays....
11. Who's Dargie?
12.
Not tried the MXR but I've used a Hartke Bassattack pedal for years and liked it, wouldn't gig without it now. Despite all the knobs and buttons on my Trace amp I think I can get just that bit more out of it with the pedal up front. I've used both passive jazz and precision with it. I wouldn't recommend it if you are into a lot of fiddling on stage though, the position settings on the knobs are almost impossible to see on stage. A while back there was an anniversary edition of the pedal with clearer knobs that was available at a stupidly low price, wish I'd picked one up. They are not available any more but the regular black one is, gone up in price a bit over the years but still cheaper than the MXR.
You can buy new knobs online very cheaply - I had the same issue with visibility and got some black knobs with a big white stripe on to replace the chrome topped ones for a couple of quid.
13.
Like yours, I have an early one ( 2003) Couldn't get on with the paint on mine so took it back to the wood and sealed it with Danish oil. Quite a nice piece of timber in fact despite them supposedly having cheaper cuts of wood to keep the cost down. It now feels great (to me anyway) I also took the opportunity to whip about .5mm (that's point five) off the back of the neck. It's now the perfect profile for me, sounds and plays great and if it does get stolen or broken, it's not cost me €2,000
Did you strip the neck yourself or get it done professionally?
14.
Is the make a trade secret or summat? Go on, you can tell us, no-one else will know.
Heres a cryptic clue - Joey, Robert, Michael and William Motorbike .....man and Lois .....eyes, dead rabbit
15. Love that green one
16. Ta Da! Now with nicer scratchie and black screws - much better!
17.
Haha, I picked up the 5-string one that was on sale here and it arrived last week. Great bass, no nonsense, but so high output that I had to re-EQ everything on my rig! I'm not a slap player, but my band's drummer is.. and holy cow. With the 2-band cranked all the way up it's insane. The only thing that I'm not convinced about is the glossy neck. I also need to do something with the scratchplate as it is a little cheesy! The matte grey, though, I like and have previously owned a guitar with a similar (but smooth) finish.
Yep, not sure about the painted neck yet. Will get some sweaty gigs under my belt and then decide what to do. Might stick a brillo pad in the shopping next week just in case! And the scratchy issue is now addressed it seems.
18. Ooh, my new scratchy and black screws have just arrived! Thats gonna be 20 mins well spent later....
19. Gigging every weekend and lucky to get 3 gigs and a rehearsal out of a set of most steel rounds. I must have acidic sweat or summat and as soon as they start to dull they have to go. However, i have recently discovered a new brand that stays lovely and zingy much longer than usual so have switched all my basses in to those. Getting about 5 gigs out of them it seems. Happy days.
20. That's a really nice classy looking bass you have there.....
21. Just grabbed this little monster a few days ago. Been fighting off Stingray gas for a few weeks and popped into a nearby music store to try one out. This was hanging up so I thought I would give it a go.......blimey, I couldn't tell the difference from a full on new Stingray Classic with my ears and the Sterling Ray34 didnt even come close soundwise. The 3 band Stingray didn't float my boat as much as the 2 band SUB. Couple of little dings but in overall great condition. Got a black scratchplate incoming to get rid of the alloy thing. The finish is growing on me in a no nonsense ok to whack a p***head in a pub with it kind of way. Its a really early one from May 2003 which apparently has the original Ray 2 band preamp and pickups in it.
