  1. Zombie thread revival post Found this.....what a great version...
  2. Nutshell 🙂
  3. One of these Nux Mighty Plugs..... Rechargeable tiny bluetooth headphone amp for silent practice - just plug it into your jack socket, connect your phone (Spotify/YouTube) via bluetooth, stick your headphones in and you're good to go. Amp Sims and effects included. It's a fab bit of kit for £58 and he can practice anywhere. https://www.gak.co.uk/en/nux-mighty-plug-headphone-amplifier-with-bluetooth-/954524
  4. They also have a few planks of floorboard from where the first Beatles gig was. A snip at just £99,999...
  5. This was the 2nd gig of 2023 for us and it was a cracker. Pretty much a full house at one of the best venues on our circuit and the atmosphere was a bit special. I fell off the gear abstinence wagon already and used my new to me Orange 4 Stroke amp - I'm really pleased with it so far. It weighs half as much as my normal Mesa BB750 and sounds really similar. It's a lovely meaty big rock amp.
  6. Easy......buy another P bass and don't put foam in it You're welcome 😂😉
  7. BTN are a great retailer. Thoroughly recommended
  8. I think the bass amp models are located in with the rest of the amps now
  9. I'm poopie at this game. Swapped an amp with a chap on Friday. I guess I'm out. But looking forward to the 2024 version 😊

  11. The price pretty much confirms they're dodgy. The smarter fakers would have them up at £35 or £40 so it's a tiny bit cheaper than the price all the other (legit) retailers are selling them for. That disguises them a bit. If the major retailers are selling at £45 on average then they must be paying a touch more than half that to the UK distributor. So let's say they're paying about £25 and then adding the VAT so it's £30 effectively. They'll need to be looking at a sensible profit for the business to be viable so they really have to sell at a minimum of £35/40 per set. And this will be for the big guys who can buy in bulk or have good discounts set up with their suppliers. Here's the same scenario....say a Fender Mexican P Bass retails normally for £700. Everyone is selling them for that price unless they're having a sale in which case they may be £550. Apart from one eBay shop that also sells doorbells and surgical masks doing them for £375 and claiming to have plenty in stock. Any alarm bells there? You can buy cheap strings from China for a couple of quid and spend the same on some good packaging. Maybe you've bought 500 sets and it'll cost you £6 per set in total. So an investment of £3000 will bring in £11,250. Leaving you a profit of +£8000. That's why they would bother faking the proper box.
  12. Very nice! And Fishman pickups too
  13. Totally the wrong way of looking at it. In reality you have 3 weeks to fill your boots with everything you may want for the next few years. You're better off bailing out this year but should be a good bet for 2024's event.
  14. Worst gig - got dragged along to see Jonathan Butler at the Hammy Odeon about 30 years ago. Can't stand all that mellow jazzy funky stuff personally but the missus quite liked him. He came on stage in a cardigan and sat on a stool for most of the night. The saving grace was that Mothers Finest were the support band and they were awesome. Best gig - a recent one. Simple Minds at Audley End last summer. I've never heard such a good sound at any gig in the last 40 years. Absolutely crystal clear but big and loud too. You could feel your eyeballs moving with the kick drum and bass but in a good way. Half of Scotland seemed to have driven down to Essex to see them. And the band were killing it, they were sooo good. Jim and Charlie looking like they were 20 years old, Jed Grimes on bass (who is always fun to watch with his old Stingray. It's about time he treated himself to a second bass), Cherisse Osai on drums is amazing, Roland Rat on rhythm guitar and Berenice Scott on keyboards was classy. They were on my bucket list to see and exceeded every expectation.
  15. I think you just need to be in the ballpark of your main sound with the backup. If you're in a funk band and slapping da Stingray then a Hofner Violin bass isn't really going to get you out of trouble. Especially if your main bass needs some work and you're without it for a few weeks. Might be best to stick to some sort of modern sounding active bass
  16. Get a screen and stick the 2 guitarists in there together maybe?
  17. We're thinking of getting it tinted so you can't see him 🙂 But yes, it's a loud kit with a couple of bonkers cymbals. It really helps control the levels in smaller venues and we've got used to using it all the time now.
  18. Caution - picture heavy post here. Not quite the Maldives but a nice little pub in Sunningdale. I thought it would be good to get some pictures of the setup progress.......
  19. I'm in.....odds on to make it to the finish line this time around!
  20. My Cort A4 Plus has the model stamped on the back of the neck. Can't you just ask for more details?
  21. Gigging together almost every weekend means we don't feel the need to mingle further. We've been trying to arrange a band Xmas curry for the last 6 or 7 years and finally managed to get everyone together last year for one - then 2 of them caught C19 that night and we missed the NYE gig as a result 🤣
  22. I had a Mesa D800 for about 6 weeks - couldn't get on with it and shifted it on. I found it too flubby and dark for my taste and it ran out of steam pretty easily. Gigged it about 4/5 times. A Genzler Magellan 800 replaced it for a while and I found that more to my liking as the EQ was much more effective and the twin channels were useful although I just generally don't like Class D amps (apart from my Quilter Bass Block which has survived every 'too many amps' cull, doesn't behave like a class D amp and lives in my gig bag as the backup amp of choice) If you're off to Bass Direct and are open to non class D stuff I would be looking at the GK Fusion 550 and the EBS TD650 they allegedly have in stock. Just for reference I play in a noisy rock covers band and use a Mesa Big Block 750 (it doesn't sound anything like the D800). I had a TD650 and it's one of the few amps that I've moved on and would happily have back. And there's a Mesa MPulse 600 on eBay at the moment which would be another great option if you don't mind an old fashioned power amp - I've used one for a while and they're great if you want the Mesa brand.
  23. No EQ problems for me either. Doesn't sound particularly bass heavy on Spotify or You Tube at all. I spent 10 minutes switching all the presets over to bass ones so it's ready to go straight away without the app.
  24. Well, that's this thread owned then.....
