Hi Folks just wondering if anyone has any accurate tabs for the Bass Legend James Jamerson I have the book Standing in the Shadows of Motown but struggling to get to grips with standard notation I just don't have the patience to work things out and read music....I love Jamerson the reason I wanted to learn Bass....the whole 60s RnB scene the likes of Jamerson, Cogbill, Jemmott, Weeks, Porter, Dunn ect.....anyone kindly send some links to any accurate Jamerson tabs I would be very greatful, thanks Bob.

Every Bassist/Guitarist I know has this problem, great sound at home....crap live gig sound....personally I used to {haven't gigged for years now} I would never change strings put a thin foam mute at bridge as this helped reduce all those horrible bass overtones you often get......lower top end, higher mids very slightly and keep the highs to a minimum on your amp settings and the big one a lot of the tone comes out your fingers or that's my personal opinion.

Not always sponging i have unfortunately never driven but always took the least cut in the band fee so the rest of the members got between £10 and £15 extra for petrol costs....non of them minded picking me up for rehearsals and gigs....plus it was me who got all the band gigs arranged all the rehearsals ect. If i drove myself i personally wouldn't mind picking up a band member

Great to hear.....if you get chance to purchase Donny Hathaway live....it's got what I personally think to be some of the best Bass playing i have ever heard and to think it's live aswell....the Bassist is Willie Weeks and his playing on the track little ghetto boy is outstanding....i advice headphones because you can hear the Bass much clearer
-
I don't drive either but been lucky enough in the past to rely on band members who have always been good. But have missed out on many opportunities to play for Bands out of town ect.

I just can't seem to get my head round reading but I commend your efforts to do so....i have Standing in the Shadows of Motown...all Jamerson scores and just can't get used to it....i suppose it's laziness on my behalf...good luck

Fab track, enjoy....i bought a 5 cd box set of Areatha it's chock full of great Basslines...including Chuck Rainey, Jerry Jemmott, Tommy Cogbill ect....also bought 5 cd box set of Wilson Picket aswell also chock full of great Basslines....the 60's RnB scene along with James Jamerson is the reason i picked up a Bass

He was only a young lad....i only had the one lesson....i personally worked hard on feel and technique and received some positive feedback about my sound...i remember an instance i was playing a gig with a Squier Jazz and tatty old Carlsbro Viper 90w Combo and a fellow Bassist said how do you get such a great sound from cheapo gear.....he told me he was going home to burn his thousand pound Musicman and grands worth of Ampeg stack lol....i said it was in my fingers...i'll be the first to admit I'm no great shakes but i keep it smooth and simple -

Even when I play the 4 string i adopt the floating thumb method...so i mute the string that's not been played...personally i don't know any other method i couldn't imagine myself playing any other way.....when i went for my first ever lesson my tutor then showed me and it just stuck...i tried lessons with another guy a couple of years later when my original tutor stopped teaching but he tried to change my style and i just couldn't get on with him -
