1. Find music to play that you're passionate about. Get a guitar that allows you to achieve as much satisfaction as possible in terms of sounds. Nothing beats that feeling of having accomplished something. My first serious guitar was an HSS strat - very versatile and it lasted a long time until I got into Alan Murphy's sound so had to have a Yamaha MSG (or three...). Then I got into Nile Rodgers obsessively and got a Hitmaker made (given all the Fender ones had sold for silly money). The closer I can get to the sounds on the records, the easier it is to compare my playing to what I hear. Next stop - Steve Lukather and maybe Jeff Beck on the way to learning Satch Boogie (my ultimate goal). So perhaps I'll be going back to the HSS strat for a bit.
2. Try it with a Boss Blues Driver in front. It'll fatten up plenty.
3. I have two strats - one a heavily customised 80's Chandler super strat with HSS EMG pickups and EMG TBX midboost in the electronics and a super rare Wilkinson VS100C locking trem. It does the Lukather/Valley Arts thing. On the super strat I use the bridge humbucker most with sometimes neck or neck+mid. I don't use mid or mid+bridge much. The other is a custom Hitmaker replica by Al Knight for failed attempts to channel Nile Rodgers. I use mostly the neck pickup or sometimes neck and mid. I don't use the bridge pickup at all. Having said that, the pickups are authentically awful so I have some lace sensors on their way.
4. Nice score! Not tempted by an MSG?
5. In the time since you got it, I've heard glowing reports about this model.
6. A TNT150 was my first giggable amp back in the early 90's and I upgraded it to a Trace AH250 and SWR Triad ASAP. Is the TNT160 standard setting quality?
7. It was Tom Walker's originally (one of the original founders). I have no idea how it left his possession, maybe his family sold it as part of his estate? But I'm still surprised Sterling Ball missed out on it if that was the case.
I know it's just business, but nonetheless you'd like to think they might have hung on to #[s]000[/s]1.
Fixed for ya.
8. Sterling Ball will be all over this at some point, I'm sure. He collects pieces of MM memorabilia for display at EB HQ. Not sure he'll be interested in paying over the odds for it though.

Punchiest 2x12

EBS Neo212 - neo cabs generally have a bit more midrange bark though.
10. 1) Drummer was too loud and didn't back off even after repeat requests. The one time he played quiet, the band tightened up massively and it was wonderful. I got fed up with competing. I think Beedster was in the same band after me. 2) I moved out of London 3) No gigs, too many egoes. 4) Unreliable members
Having just read that again I think I initially misunderstood what you were looking for. I'd assumed you wanted to run both JOYOs in parallel and blend between them. Given that, why would you want to go to the expense of putting these in a new enclosure? You could achieve what you're wanting to do with an A/B looper pedal: http://buildyourownc...oducts/tblooper
I've just discovered that Effectrode do a channel switching blackface-based preamp pedal which does everything the Joyo does but with tubes. Its called the Blackbird but costs a bit more than the cost of two Joyos and an A/B though.
12.
I have one of their 'American' pedals which is meant to be Fender-ish. It's very nice - a bit hissy at hight gain, but not bad at all What does TLDR mean ?
I have the same pedal. Punches way above its weight for the price. I agree about the hiss so tend to avoid using compression after it. Does great Alan Murphy impressions with the treble and mids at 5 oclock, gain at 3 and voice about 1.
I wanted something crunchier & more solid than the 2 overdrive/distortion pedals I've been using.
I'm expecting an Amptweaker Tight Rock to land at my door specifically for this purpose some time this week. Very crunchy and raw sounding overdrive. The designer James Brown (no sniggering at the back, thanks) designed the 5150 head and some stuff for Joe Satriani.
13.
YouTube has never had so much Prince content.
I agree - it's virtually exploded with Prince content!! I'm seeing legitimately recorded stuff from shows I've never seen before and it's pretty good. He was pretty possessive about his music and I say that from the point of view that he turned down many many opportunities to license his music and boost his royalties by some margin but turned them all down. Licensing is what turned Paul McCartney from merely a wealthy man into a near billionaire. Its better known as a song writers pension. Prince died with cashflow issues - he was still wealthy in terms of assets but there wasn't much in the bank and he lost loads in those secret last minute gigs.
14.
Do you really mean NON MIDI programmable?
Yep. The pitchfactor arpeggiates though pitch shifing and it has tap tempo for on the fly adjustments. All of the MIDI based arp pedals I've seen so far use a waveform generator which is less useful for using with the Future Impact.
15. Some of the Steinberger non headless units are superb - unfortunately they're not very easy to get hold of.
16. Almost bought a '65 Jazz but wouldn't have played it live and looking at it would have just reminded me of what else the money could have been spent on. Felt very nice to play though. Having said that, I do enjoy owning a beaten up 78 Stingray...not sure if that counts as vintage compared to preCBS Fenders but it snarls very nicely.
17. It's cheesy but very nicely executed.
18. None of his albums - I've found a lot of his songs are a bit meh (and I say that as a Prince fan). His live jams are what do it for me so I've only got DVDs. Live at the Aladdin is the best, shortly followed by Y2K (let down by the cringeworthy sermon half way through). Sign of the Times DVD is (ironically) a sign of it's time - its a bit self conscious and doesn't show Prince's band leading talents to the same degree as the other two.
19. He had ankle problems too, according to the Mail. He did have hip surgery but presumably not to an extent that would have required a transfusion. He must have been in a huge amount of pain and yet he still pushed himself. It sounds all too familiar given the road Michael Jackson went down with his own health issues and painkillers. BTW: Card carrying Prince fanatic here. Not for his stadium concerts which are relatively structured but for very much the less formal, improvised stuff that was seen at after show parties and (unfortunately) on bootlegs. A taste of it is on the Live at Aladdin and Y2K DVD's. Seeing him at the Indigo in 2007 after the main concert was life changing. He was arranging songs on the fly in his head while performing them at the same time and cueing the rest of the band. At one point he went around to the keyboardist and showed him how to play a specific phrase, then jumped on the drums...it was jaw dropping and awe inspiring in every sense of the word. He totally owned that stage and the 1300 of us in the audience.
20. Gosh, even with no bass synth going in, it still sounds promising. It's a real shame Boss don't do a separate arp pedal...buying one of these just for the arp function would be a real PITA. Thanks for sharing that clip, really helpful!
21. I never knew the 336 and 339 existed!
22.
Can you claim the mileage back??
Good point, well presented, Sir. Unfortunately our company has been taken over so we don't need to pay any company tax now (until at least we start the next one) and we don't get charged personal income tax either where I am...
23. I've heard it has one of the best arpeggiators in pedal form under the 'Autoslap' patch and it can be programmed (unlike more recent pedals such as the Pitchfactor). I'd be really grateful if someone could post some examples of the arp in action just so I can hear what the shifted sounds are like.
24.
Ah, finally I know what made Milwaukee famous
Yeah but when he was three, the family moved from Milwaukee to California. His parents are both STILL alive and in their mid 90's too.
