Exciting stuff! I didn't realise the full extent of your plans. I wish you all the best with them and I look forward to seeing them come to fruition! You've certainly picked a top luthier to collaborate with.
Hi Mark, at the moment I'm not sure Jon will be making the prototype bodies. He just seems too busy at the moment, however I have approached someone else also known to Basschatters who I believe will offer the same level of quality as Jon.

OK, I have something rather exciting potentially happening on this because of such a positive response from the suppliers I've approached in the last couple of days. I'm going to be trialling some special pickups from a UK supplier instead of the Delanos. I'm hoping my personal fretted 5 string instrument will be ready in the next couple of months in order that I can test the prototype pickups when they're ready. I've also finally chosen a brand name, have registered the domain names, am in the process of trademarking the name and hopefully we will have 10 basses available for sale exclusively through Basschat in time for Christmas! I can't give out much more information at the moment as I'm having to review the pricing again.
Sustain eh ? I know a long sustaining note from a bass with a big "piano like" accoustic tone makes you feel like you have a well constructed instrument, but most bass players work hard to kill the notes that ring (unwanted) and when was the last time anyone needed a note that lasted more than a couple of seconds anyway ?
Play a fretless and you'll understand that sustain is the one thing that separates good fretless basses from bad. Sustain is of course a question of taste and all that.
Personally I think you should connect the necks together to make one VERY long neck then a few bassists could play your bass at once
thats genius that is! *makes note*
By suppliers do you mean with regards the parts? Mark
Only the headless graphite necks and bodies.

Hmmm, because things are taking too long to organise with Jon, there may be a potential change of suppliers in the offing... ...stay tuned.
Wow, she's either tiny, or your jubblies are quite high!?
It could be said my jubblies are of an elevated persuasion. Esepecially now when I'm around that particular singer

Before I danced, someone would probably need to complete a Risk Assessment and take out Public Liability insurance. In any case, I rarely play stages that are big enough. Most of the time I have a space about 1m x 1m between the percussionist and the drummer. On Saturday one of the singers swung her arm back too far and clouted me in the jubblies while we were playing. Luckily her aim was off.
yes CK, it does involve tweaking a few knobs.. Well, 5 to be precise...
and a spanking?
I've listened to both the Epifani UL410 and the Bergantino AE410. Imho, and to my ears the Berg gives a better tone and projection. I've also listened to the Shuttle 6.0, which isn't bad at all. A few more tweaks to the controls and it will be really nice. For the warmness you're after I'd also consider the MarkBass LMII or SA450 PM Funkmunky - he uses a Berg AE410 and a Markbass SA450 head. Hamster
FWIW: I've listened to an Epi UL310 cab with a solid state head and thought it sounded very warm and full but the mid range wasn't that well defined. I've listened to a Berg 4x10 with a GB Neopak head (similar pre to the Shuttle) and the sound was warm with a well defined mid range. I've listened to a EBS Neo212 with my Shuttle 6 and also had a well defined mid range with perhaps less warmth but still a lot of B string authority. I like the idea of the GB neo 212 cab if it also offers a tight mid range. I've also tried the MB LMK and F1 head with the Berg and it sounded a touch warmer than the Shuttle but the midrange was slightly less defined. To be honest the differences could be wiped out by stage acoustics probably quite easily.
I think a lot of people have a problem with Jeff because he's sometimes right, but sometimes quite mistaken, and often in the same sentance!

Like most of us, JB can talk sense one minute and unmitigated b******S the next. We need to be able to recognise the difference.
I think thats the same point I made earlier.
I second that. Nik's Wal has a really nasty tone, but "nasty" in a good way!!!!!!
does it involve tweaking knobs?
On the plus side dude, you've probably saved yourself a fair whack of cash. Is it not possible to get New Zealand sourced woods shipped to one of the more reputable builders over here in the UK? Eude
It definitely is, the only problem is actually finding the stuff. NZ woods are generally protected and subject to logging quotas. Some of it like rimu and swamp kauri is pretty easy to find but other stuff like a nice lump of quilted red beech is pretty difficult unless you know someone who has a log they're cutting up. Yet I have friends with a kitchen floor made out of slats of gorgeous quilted red beech! A lot of stuff is often just acquired opportunistically over a long period of time and stock piled. I think thats what Ian has been doing. Having said all that, my parents often need something to keep them occupied so I guess I could get my dad to do a bit of detective work...

ok, so its not just me then? I found a bit worrying the lines on the headstock which aren't completely straight. They sort of wobble a little. The ironic thing is that his acoustic guitars look beautiful. I guess he's just not set up for sculpting solid bodies.
