1. the best fretless on the market IMO. hope it sells EDIT: and the wood grain on that one is particularly gorgeous.
2. "I kan b equipd to protectz ur home..."
3. I wonder what all those knobs do? EDIT: I've worked it out. Some of them run the country.
4.
Fender should sort this out without question.
Absolutely, the cause is most likely to be that they have used wood that hasn't been properly dried out. They've had the wood in stock, sawn it while still damp and its still had tensions in the grain while continuing to dry out after its been fitted to the bass. No question in my mind that defective materials are to blame. It would need checking but I'd hope you would still be protected under consumer legislation regardless of the guarantee offered by Fender.
5. We had the same issue for our promo video as well, we ended up just lip synching and miming rather than try to record something half decent live.
6. I think Warwick have a set of strings designed BEAD for their basses...?
7. good grief that was quick!
8. I did play a 5 string through it and never noticed a lack of authority. However this amp is only 150w so its unlikely you'll be swamped with huge amounts of low end. I can't remember or find a reference on the web but isn't there a low boost button on one of the panels for extra depth?
9. Well FWIW, I like the sound of the 1994 red one I have (which Alex said was the second jazz Chris ever made) more than the black one which was a little bit of a one trick pony for my purposes. I'm going to ask Andy at Wizard to wind the pickups so there's more warmth and lower mids coming out and then I think it might be the last jazz I ever own.
10. I believe her name is pronounced Me-shel Nuh-duh-gey-o-chello. In terms of her creative process, her lyrics have been pretentious at times in the past but the deal is that you're with her on her creative journey for better or worse. She more or less expects your tolerance and appreciation as a fan. I don't have a problem with that personally.
11. Oh Dan, that reminds me so much of a Tobias...coincidence?
12. Ooh, and another thing, did you test the USB installation on your PC with all the other periperals unplugged? MIDI devices and webcams can sometimes be incompatible with each other for some reason.
13.
Yes Steve, its the USB driver I'm after. In my frustration, I missed that bit out of my earlier post!
Hmmm. Unfortunately you might be out of luck if the XP driver doesn't work with Vista and the company went out of business before Vista was released. However, just as a left field idea, it might be worth seeing if there's a common chipset between your keyboard and a make that is still in production perhaps? You never know, they might be cross compatible. Alternatively perhaps there is a WinXP emulator out there which you could install on a trial basis?
14.
On a slightly more frivolous note, I have seen some truly great Basschat virtuoso players at the Bass Bashes but no-one comes close to the guy who 'slapped' his way through about 5 hours at the National Bash last March! Think my ears are still bleeding..
He's banned from BC too. Apart from Bilbo and Urb, do we have any other tasty fretless players?
15. Kev, do you need a USB driver?
16. if you take a measurement of the pickup impedance on your bass, maybe someone could do the same here. If there's a significant difference in the readings, it might be the pickup which has a broken winding. Alternatively you could check all the soldering joints inside the preamp cavity to see if there are any hanging by a thread (literally). I also don't know if there's a gain trim pot in the cavity which you could adjust perhaps? Apart from that I can only imagine it might be an Op-amp in the preamp circuit which is on its way out perhaps? I'm no expert, mind. Its just stuff I've encountered with my own instruments.
17.
I have indeed tried a couple of Sadowskys when I was last at the gallery and I liked them a lot, just never a Celinder. I should have probably jumped on those bass bashes.
If it helps, maybe leave your name with Alex and tell him you'd like to try one? Chris Celinder sometimes sells used basses on consignment through them as well as new ones. All the basses I've owned have been through the Gallery at one time or another and the used ones have been at quite reasonable prices.
18. Fair point Dave, my earlier comments should probably be considered more along the lines of who has impressed me most. Rather than who is best. I haven't seen everyone (far from it) so I can't really comment TBH.
19. and replied, thanks Rob
20. I love her playing. I remember catching her live on that Sundance tour and her bass notes on the one and maybe two, followed by some melodic touches is a very distinctive part of her style.
21.
Crazykiwi
Wow Nick, I'm flattered. My playing is very meat and potatoes. Thank you!
But the guy who freaks me out with some of his playing is Dood! I think it's a combination of him being excellent and that his style's evolved from metal, which I haven't really ever been involved in (with the exception of some Sabbath-y stuff).
+1 Anyone who hasn't seen him play has really missed out on something. His technique is blistering fast, versatile and he's every bit as talented and skilled as John Myung. His playing is the equivalent of a barrage of cluster bombs, I'm sure there's nothing he couldn't play. Shock and awe baby, shock and awe. And I'm not even a fan of prog metal BTW.
22. If it was a 5, I would probably be hanging on to it In addition to Roland V-bass Alembic F-2B preamp I'm also interested in: 8u rack (can be a frame rather than a case) to house various bits of rackmounted studio kit Sandberg Basic or Ken Taylor 5 (esp in blueburst) 87-90 Musicman Stingray 5 or any Stingray 5 with a graphite neck Yamaha BB-NEII any other good quality workhorse 5 string (not Fenders, Warwicks or other Yamahas though, thanks) Fender Super Champ or any other Riviera-era Fender 1x12 guitar combo Burman Pro501 1x12 combo
23. I've seen some bass players use other makes of English valve PA head for a bass amp. You'll probably get a nice clean, powerful signal from it. I've never seen one for sale before so I can't help with a reliable price. But I'd expect somewhere between 400-700 quid, depending on reviews. Two hundred watts will be plenty for a gig though! Good score, especially if you plan on using more than one bass. Is it stereo or mono?
24.
I hear they're the best, and I've wanted one for a long long time now. I think I'd be apprehensive about putting an order down on one at the moment because I'm torn between doing so and maybe getting a Sadowsky next... but I think I'll keep my eyes peeled in the next few months for a second hand one.
They have a good reputation but don't believe the hype. Try one if you get a chance and let the bass speak for itself. This is what the bass bashes were originally arranged to do.
