3. Hey thanks everybody! Marc s ....not a great memory...two days of frantic re-learning went a long way Seashell.....It would be lovely to see you ,any friend of Kevb is ok by me Bonzodog..I have played at the White Horse quite a few times with this band,I really like the place and we usually have a good time.
4. After leaving my band almost two years ago, due to my girlfriend moving to Edinburgh, (the band is based in Birmingham) I have not really played my bass at all. Out of the blue my old band got in touch a couple of weeks ago to see if I could fill in on three gigs. The members had ,during the last two years ,formed various acts and mixed members around three different bands and they needed a bass player to help out on three gigs in September/October. I couldn't play last Fridays gig as I was in Spain but last night I went to rehearsals in Brum and HAD A BLAST!!!! It went so well that the line up we had last night ,me,the old drummer, singer and lead guitarist, along with a second guitarist from one of the side projects have decided that we will be the permanent line up of Delta ,the main band. First gig ....September 27th at The White Horse in Harborne,Birmingham......everyone welcome. Come see a very pleased Raymondo get back to doing his thing Warning...it's rock covers..corny old tunes like Born to be wild ,Breaking the law and Paranoid WILL be played
5.
They didn't ask us to turn down the instruments (and we had the kit and bass through the PA). They did ask us to turm down the Ipod during the break and move some bits away from the fire exit. I get the impression they always like to have a moan about something.
That kinda goes for every Social club I have ever played!
6. Jeeze four pages on this?......The couple who kept filming are selfish idiots..Mr Frampton was probably too aggressive but did have a point.. Do we really have to go on and on about it?....leave it alone and it will all settle down and we can go back to arguing about PvJ!
7. I love Family. The first "proper" gig...ie by tickets ...go to large venue (De Montfort hall Leicester) was them in the early seventies . I also saw them at a few festivals, and the streetwalkers later in the seventies. Unlike most fans I actually really like "It's only a movie" .....just as much as Dolls house and Bandstand.
8.
Back from one of our regular bookings and my least fave of all the venues. Frequently seems to be a fight waiting to happen and I virtually ended up in the middle of one as I was taking my bass, ext lead and lights out to the car got sandwiched in the doorway as one drunk thug was trying to get back in whilst a second drunk thug was pushing me from behind so he could get out at the other one. Police were called eventually when the bouncers looked like they may be outnumbered. All back home in one piece and cash dutifully tucked away. Alternative Lidl trolley given a spin tonight, piled plenty of gear on it.
Would that be just to the north of Bulwell by any chance Kev?
9.
Just got in from my first gig as Welsh Floyd. Basically two of us from my old Floyd band have reformed with 3 people from another disbanded Floyd band and a keyboard player that we all know well. We've been together for exactly 2 weeks and had 3 rehearsals. However, as we are all hard working professionals we had an absolute blast!! 1 hour in the local Harley Davidson festival (a gig that I had booked as the old Floyd band that we honoured as they didn't want to). We went down brilliantly and had a standing ovation. Even better we've picked up a few future bookings! Awesome! I had a few bits of my own playing I wasn't completely happy with. But I will listen to the recordings and beat myself up in my own time However, the crowd loved us. Was also lovely to see and catch up with a basschatter, the gorgeous Mr Fretbuzz
For some reason I missed the fact that your original band had split up. Good to hear that you are sorted and it went well!!
10. HA I see now.. I by no means claim to be as accomplished as the fabulous Mr Pratt but I have a very similar right hand action....though my thumb moves up and down the strings more often when I play the higher strings......It was just the way that occurred naturally when I started playing.
11. Market Harborough working mens club....early 1975 rather embarrassingly this...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW21rcHiVU0

16.
Our next Nottingham gig is Beerache at The Maze on Saturday 12th July. After that we don't have anything local planned until the end of August. TBH the last time I was in the Running Horse before Friday's gig was some time back in 80s to see a friend of mine play guitar in a blues band (Left Hand Thread IIRC).
Thanks for linking your next gig...I'll not promise to be there but I will try....the problem is I will be meeting some old friends in the Bell at 1.00pm so may be a little "tired and emotional" by the time you are on!!!! Good luck and have a fabulous gig either way.
17. "a bunch of people who'd seen us supporting The Rezillos the previous month turned up" It was well worth slumming it and supporting the Rezillos then! ;-) I wish I had checked the gig guide before Friday I was in Nottingham (at the Canal house) and have not managed to get to see you yet. I love the Runner too, played there many times in the past.
18. ^ yes I was impressed. It was a while ago.....late nineties, when the new 2000w power amps came out. Agree on the price/sound consideration but we played many gigs with the Peavey set up and it coped well with all types of stage and room.
19. Yes saw that earlier in the year....what a waste of a fabulous original bass.....made it look horrible!
20. Almost certainly what dad says!....we had a Peavey amp go rogue during sound check and because we were trying to test to see why we had lost sound leads were switched around and in the end both tops, both bass bins and all four monitors were toast! Fortunately it was a new system, only used twice before and Peavey accepted that because(one of) their amps was faulty it was understandable that we were confused and toasted all our speakers. They re-coned them all and replaced the amp .It was a nice day out at the Peavey works in Northants waiting for them to repair the things!
21.
Badfinger were from Wales, although they ended up with a couple of Liverpool lads in the line up.
Cool ,thanks for that info....yet another great band from Wales then.......I used to love playing "No matter what", and it always went down well!
22.
I think this song was the follow up to their No 1 version of The Beatles OBLADIOBLADA. I dont think it was a big hit though. I think they were a Scottish band, or was that Badfinger??
They were/are indeed Scottish ,though reflections wasn't the follow up to oh bla di oh bla da...it was a bit later...went to number 3 in the uk and was their biggest seller I believe...two million eventually as opposed to the million or so for the Beatles (rubbish ) song! I loved a twee song that came later called Rainbow. Junior Campbell was a long time member who went on to have solo hits in the seventies. A former member of Marmalade came and sang with my duo in Tenerife around 2007....he was not very good , which was a shame because I liked the band a lot! I told him I thought oh bla di was their worst record and he jokingly pretended to ring Paul McCartney to tell him Oh and Badfinger were Australian but brought over to the uk and was the first band signed to Apple.
23. I think it fits perfectly.....but maybe that's because Marmalade were one of my favourite bands of that era and this song is one I have always loved to play!
