In my old metal band I frequently had from one of the guitarists: "sh*t, I've forgotten my power cable/Instrument cable/amp jack again, Graham can I use your spare?" I swear I used to bring duplicate sets of all my cables so I knew we'd actually be able to play. Edit: to the point where I was using speakon with my amp, but used to bring a jack cab cable as well for the times he would forget his.

[/quote] Instead of plugging into the input on the front-panel, I plugged into the FX return on the back (via my Sansamp as a pre-amp) which goes straight into the power-amp. Doesn't sound quite like what you're doing with your Ashdown as I was still using the power-amp in the Laney.

I had a Laney R4 (300 watt 1x15) which was solid, if unspectacular. It was dramatically improved by bypassing the pre-amp and going out of a Sansamp directly into the FX return, sounded pretty good then.

Pub gig last night, which was in a marquee; fortunately I planned ahead and brought fingerless gloves with me. We're there New Year's Eve, so the gloves should be a good investment at £1.50 from Primark. Played well to a relatively sparse crowd, which for the first time in ages included the wife as we managed to get a babysitter. It was all going well until about half way through the second set when she hit the third bottle of Prosecco and managed to get the singer's wife paralytic - I ended up driving the singer and hs wife home with her almost passed-out on the back-seat. Other than that, was all good lol

Active basses, not saying I'd never have one, but I have a strong preference for passive now

I should probably say, sent the bass in question last week by TNT via my company's freight forwarder, got delayed over the weekend (shipped Thursday, should've been there Friday, but actually arrived Monday) and the buyer said it arrived all as it should be, so in this instance at least, TNT delivered the goods if you will allow the pun.

Interesting you've used Dingwall pickups, I'd have thought on paper that the string-to-string balance wouldn't be great on the output as the pole pieces would be lined up for an angled pickup so wouldn't line up with the strings when square. However, if it sounds good then that just proves how these on paper discussions can often be a load of baws.

Emperor's best of album, currently The Loss And Curse Of Revernence. Bass is pretty much inaudible in a lot of these black metal recordings, but cracking songs nonetheless

The light on mine often doesn't come on when I switch the power on, normally comes on eventually though when it feels like it. It's a known issue with the LED module apparently, mine's been like it since I got it from Shep about a year ago and not had any other issues with it. Might be worth seeing if it can be fixed under warranty, otherwise I think it'll be more money to repair than it's worth for a purely cosmetic fault

I really like the octopus decal on the "Mark Hoppus" bass - is there a Fender version witht that on?
