TO GO: The Bill Wyman Bumper Book Of Root Notes
spinynorman replied to Zombywoof's topic in Completed Items
Little known facts ... Bill's favourite chord is A Minor. Brian borrowed the recorder on Ruby Tuesday from Bill's girlfriend. OK, OK, I'm going. -
SOLD (on eBay) I'm selling a Hartke B20 practice amp. 20W output through an 8" speaker, with active & passive inputs, 3 band eq, line out and headphone socket. Hartke specs and manual are on their site here. It must be well over 10 years old, but with one careful owner, still in good cosmetic condition and all working. It really is for domestic practice, no way it will ever cut through drums or a full band. Might be ok for an acoustic group, never tried that. There's always been a bit of low level hum when its idle and hiss if you turn the treble up, but then I had a B60 as well for a while and that was much the same. Just looking for £40 including delivery within mainland UK.

I've had several mahogany basses, including a Gibson IV, an Epi Elitist EB3, both mahogany throughout, and an Ibanez Jazz copy which was mahogany body/maple neck. I wouldn't describe them as muddy, but there's something about the wood that makes them feel very different from basswood/maple or alder/maple. Springy was the word I came up with for the Gibson IV, like the whole thing was vibrating with the strings. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it seems that you're either going to like it a lot, or really not like it at all.
Well, I guess they might seeing as they managed to sell about sixty or more - it must have been profitable for them. I could be tempted by one myself.
It's on the site masquerading as a case. I asked a few months ago if it would be available. First they said no, special order only, then a few weeks later got an email asking if I still wanted one. By then I'd gone off the idea. Maybe worth an email of anyone wants one.
Thanks. Just had a quick look but couldn't see anything :0(
This seems to cover it ... When do I have to refund a consumer’s money if they cancel an order? Regulation 14 requires that you make the refund as soon as possible after the consumer cancels, and at most within 30 days. You must refund the consumer’s money even if you have not yet collected the goods or had they returned to you by the consumer. You cannot insist on the goods being received by you before you make the refund. What specifically do I have to refund to the consumer if they cancel? You must refund any money paid by or on behalf of the consumer in relation to the contract to the person who made the payment. This means the full price of the goods, or deposit or prepayment made, including the cost of delivery. This is because when a consumer buys from home, delivery of the goods is an essential part of the contract. I just took the Tonepump out of my Rebop and wired it passive. Much nicer, I think.
I am a new bass player and recently bought a new 5 string bass 2 or 3mths ago.Im fairly happy with my progress but Im concerned that I have perhaps made the wrong choice.I loaned a 4 string from my brother and I can really feel the difference. The space between the strings is great and I seem to be able to move around the fretboard a lot more easily without catching the wrong string. The missus will cutoff my nads if I suggest changing to a 4 string which will probably cost me money ? So do I stick at it or try to make the change to a 4 ? Many thanks.
Seeing your comments about string spacing and catching the wrong string, I wonder if you've just got a 5-string with a narrow neck. I had the same problem with my first 5, which had the same width at the nut as a 4-string P. Since then I've had a MIM Fender Jazz V and a Spector Rebop 5 and they're both much better. (Or yours might be too wide, depends on you.) So you might want to consider trying other 5s to see if you find one that suits you better.

"There is sound coming from the guitar" I hope it's the kind you expect. -
Bonzo Dogs, all completely insane.

I often get funny looks, humming or not.

As your sound is ok playing with guitar and drums, I bet your problem is the keyboard. So you can try all this negotiation about frequency ranges, or you can amputate his left arm with an axe.
Loved Reef, still do. Great bass playing on all the albums. Saw them live once at Bournemouth, at a surfers against sewage christmas ball, still one of the best gigs i've ever been to, Jack Bessent lying on his back crowd surfing, still playing his stingray5, class. So excited about this news, anybody know if there is an album yet?
There is an album. And a T Shirt. http://www.themisme.com/shop.htm Before the last song Gary Stringer said something like - "It's been rough going round, but tonight's been fun". So could be they aren't going down so well, though I really can't see why. I wouldn't judge them by what's on MySpace, they're much better live, but I like that kind of riff-based rock, having been weened on stuff like that. They came out in front of 200 people paying £8 a ticket and performed like it was a stadium. If nothing else I'd give them credit for that.

My kids growing up were huge Reef fans and it didn't take much for them to convert me. Anyway, last Wednesday I was idly browing the what's on email from our local tribute band venue and noticed "Them Is Me" - ex-Reef, Gary Stringer, Jack Bessant. So last night we're two feet from Stringer climbing all over the monitors and the bar and trying to swing on the lighting rig, and Bessant glaring at the crowd, thumping a very battered sunburst Precision through an 8x10 Ampeg fridge and a Mesa Bass 400. I think that's the best 8 quid I've ever spent on a gig. Just watching Bessant was worth twice that, at least. No Reef songs, by the way, but with the stuff they play now they don't need to go backwards. http://www.myspace.com/themismeofficial
Why dont you download a program called Digital Music Mentor. You can download a trial version and then if you like it it costs around £25 if I remember right. It`s 90% right (most times!) and is very helpful. You can also use it on as many computers as you like. And don`t anyone start lecturing me about learning by ear, reading quavers/dots on a line and all that muso stuff. That`s great if you can do it but I prefer the cowboy way. Jez
For me it's a question of time - I can go by ear in a jam, but for gigs I at least like to know what the original was, so I have something to work around. Anything that shortcuts that process is good. I use Guitar Pro, but just downloaded the trial version of DMM and it looks like it makes a pretty good stab at the bass. Would at least be useful where there isn't a GP tab. However, it's actually £46, which was a bit more of a sharp intake of breath than £25 would be.
WTF?? Surely being able to work something out by ear is one of the basic skills up there with being able to fret a string and get a clean note out of it? You don't need to be able to replicate every nuance of the recorded bass part after all the only person who's likely to notice will be another bass player, and they're not the people who you're trying to please. Besides since the bassline is the glue between the rhythm and the melody, playing exactly what's on the recording will only work if the rest of the band do that too. I've found that I always have to modify the basslines for my covers band to match the rest of the band's interpretation of the song.
I was wondering why my Flea knock offs never sound right. Now I know - it's the guitarist's fault.

Who was playing a wedding at Minster Lovell on Saturday Night?
spinynorman replied to cd_david's topic in General Discussion
We were playing in Nuneaton. Don't think that's in Oxfordshire, though the satnav did get a bit confused on the way back. -
According to the landlord of a pub we played at recently, rock & roll is dead. The 80s is the new 50s, or something (he was drunk and I was tired and wanted to get off home.)

I'm in the Bought-4-CDs-from-gnasher-and-they-are-very-nice club. Arrived quickly too.
As it turned out it was more like "How dare you have deeper, richer sunburst than us? We'll get the same factory to make our basses! My Squier SQ Precision had the most stunning burst I've ever seen, makes me wish I hadn't sold it... Funny thing is, they never did sue, neither did Gibson, Rickenbacker or anyone else. Jon.
Funny that Rickenbacker, having failed to do anything about it at the time, now hound Rickenfakers off eBay. -
WTF is Wenge. It sounds like something Boadicea painted on her naughty bits.

Did your Mum buy it for you? Mine bought me a guitar one. It's in the loft.
