1.
Anyway - enough of that. Norman's Antoria LP is much nicer & more interesting - I've never encountered the bass version before with an Antoria brand (it's the same bass as the Ibanez 2350B/DX - except this one has the later "post-lawsuit" headstock design. Thinking about it, I don't think I've seen a Fujigen LP bass with this headstock before. Of course it reminds me of my second-ever bass - an unbranded medium-scale black LP-alike, which I bought as a wreck off a school mate. Hope someone from BC gets this one. Jon.
Oh, I hate seeing that catalogue page. To the left of the 2350, the 2345B, I had one of those. I sold it when I bought a Japanese Epi Elitist EB3 and then wished I hadn't. That Ibanez was the nicest shortscale I've played. I'd really like to find another one.
2. I only came on here to post this Antoria Les Paul in case anyone in Essex fancies it. And the Bradley still isn't worth 600 quid
3.
Very pretty bass but that's a lot of money (nearly 600 quid!) for any Japanese copy - particularly an inaccurate one from an unspecified manufacturer, with an anonymous importer brand. It's worth £200 at a push, imo. I really can't guess who made this - I've never seen that sort of trc on a JapCrap Jazz, body is either ply or block, neck appears to be one piece with separate fretboard. Everything else looks pretty generic. Not sure why he's comparing it to a "real" Jazz - the only thing that's better is the bridge alignment. And it's still out. Jon.
Just web search, so take it with a pinch of whatever you have to hand and wait for Jon to tell us how much is likely to be true. Bradley was the house brand of Veneman's Music Emporium in Rockville, Maryland, replacing the Kapa brand, when the factory in Hyattsville closed down. The Veneman family lived near Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda and Koob Veneman liked the name. Bradleys were made by Fuji Gen Gakki and probably also Matsumoko, Aria and other builders around the Nagoya, Japan area. Bradleys ranged in quality from starter instruments to very high quality, depending on when and where made. In the 70s and early 80s Bradleys were imported from Japan. Later on in the 90s, the guitars were made in Korea. The company and store's inventory was purchased by the Guitar Center chain in 2000, who then converted the Rockville store into a Guitar Center. There may have been more than one phase of Bradleys - earliest were Matsumoko sourced with pearloid script logo, later from unknown source with black decal script logo, including Fender copies with plastic saddles, then in the 80s either black or gold decal, and fret markers were stick-on dots. 4. I've just bought Matt's Dearmond Starfire. It was a good deal (well, I thought so, anyway), bass came in a couple of days, it was well packed and the gigbag and strap he threw in turned out to be Fender and leather respectively. The bridge pickup on the bass was a bit tatty (which I knew), but he found a replacement and arranged for it to be posted to me. Seems like nothing's too much trouble. Good guy to deal with all round.
5. Ask at The Last Bass Outpost. A lot of the Gibson/Epi experts hang out there.
6. A lot of the delay with USPS is because Parcelfarce send the customs invoice by letter post, and they don't exactly rush to mail it either. I don't know if you can short circuit that by phoning them once tracking shows its in the country.
7. Our former keyboard player dragged me along to see Brian Auger's Oblivion Express. (One or two older BCers may remember the BA Trinity's "This Wheel's on Fire" with Julie Driscoll). I'm not a big fan of endless Hammond organ solos, or of bands made up of the leader's children (his son plays drums and his daughter sings), but actually they play some good tunes, the girl can sing and the bass player was really good and played a Lakland. Wife & daughter dragged me along to see Korn (twice) and that was absolutely as mind-numbingly tedious as I expected.
8. It's mine now Just happened to be right time, right place, right bass. I tried to get the slippers thrown in, but no deal.
9. You have a PM.
10. First there's this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...sid=p2761.l1259 which is clearly not a Pro IV TB, it's a boggo old style Epi TBird, which you can get for £199 new at GAK. and then there's this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GIBSON-EPIPHONE-THUN...=item3a5477c5e1 Since when did changing the scratch plate and TRC add £150 to the value?
11. What does the 5 position switch do?
12. Here's the list. Bit of a mixed bunch. As far as I can see all the actual records are in good condition and look like they should play. Some of the covers are better than others. These are all 12" vinyl LPs. I'll get some reinforced mailers for posting. Postage & packing £3.00 single album, £4.00 double album. Add £1.00 for each additional single LP. 1 Art Tatum The Tatum Solo Masterpieces Vol 1 MGM 2310 723 2 Benny Goodman Orchestra Riffin' at the Ritz Saville SVL203 Mono 3 Billy Ternent & His Orchestra Unmistakably Billie Ternent Rediffusion ZS55 4 Bing Crosby Bing Crosby Forever RCA NL43860 Double 5 Bing Crosby & Louis Armstrong Bing & Satchmo MGM MGM-C-844 Mono 6 Connie Francis 20 All Time Hits Polydor 2391 290 7 Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli Quintet of the Hot Club of France Decca ACL 1158 Mono Cover unstuck 8 Duke Ellington & his Orchestra In a Mellotone RCA LSA3069 Cover unstuck 9 Fats Waller The Vocal Fats Waller RCA LSA 3112 10 Fats Waller Fats at the Organ RCA RD 7599 Mono 11 Geoff Love & his Orchestra All Time Greatest Hits EMI TWOX1029 12 Guy Lombardo & his Royal Canadians The Best of Guy Lombardo Vol 1 MCA MCA2-4082 Double 13 Guy Lombardo & his Royal Canadians The Sweetest Music This Side of Heaven Decca AH86 Mono Cover unstuck 14 Guy Lombardo & his Royal Canadians The Best Songs are the Old Songs MCA MCA-89 15 Harry Roy & His Orchestra Truckin' on Down Saville SVL191 Mono 16 Harry Roy and His Band The Genuine Sound of the Thirties EMI MFP50334 Mono 17 Ivor Moreton & Dave Kaye Piano Favourites Burlington BUR022 Mono 18 Joe Glover & his Collegians Flames Flappers & Flasks Fontana Z4010 Mono 19 Louis Armstrong Greatest Hits CBS 21058 Mono 20 Manhattan Transfer Pastiche Atlantic K50444 21 Manuel & the Music of the Mountains Exotica Columbia 33SX 1770 Mono 22 Nat King Cole Greatest Love Songs EMI EMTV35 23 Original Broadway Cast The Sound of Music Philips ABL3370 Mono 24 Ray Charles Volcanic Action of My Soul SPB 1039 25 Ray Charles The Country Side of Ray Charles Arcade ADEH447 26 Ray Conniff Ray Conniff CBS SPR27 27 Ronnie Aldrich & his Two Pianos World of Ronnie Aldrich in Phase 4 Decca SPA 319 Cover unstuck 28 Rudi Vallee Sing for Your Supper Conifer CMS005 Remastered 29 Stephane Grappelli, Joe Venuti Venupelli Blues BYG 529.122 Mono 30 Tommy Dorsey & Frank Sinatra Sings The Standards RCA INTS5098 Mono "No Good" written on 31 Various Dance Bands And the Bands Played On Decca DDV 5001/2 Mono Double 32 Yehudi Menuhin, Stephane Grappelli Fascinatin' Rhythm EMI EMD 5523
13. OK, that's great. Just off to band practice, so can't do anything tonight, but will put a list up and look at the postage issue as soon as I can. Will try to do it tomorrow evening.
14. I have a number of vinyl LP records that were my father's. They are mostly big band, jazz and easy listening from way back, for example Fats Waller, including one of him on Hammond Organ, Guy Lombardo, Bing Crosby with Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhart, Menuhin/Grappelli etc. I don't really want to bin these, but I don't think they have any sales value, so I'm willing to recycle for the cost of postage, if anyone is interested in that type of music. If you're interested, post here or PM me. If there's any interest at all I'll post a list.
15. I've had a couple of basses shipped USPS and they got here in one piece, at a reasonable price. Other couriers were something like double. It will take about 3 weeks though. Part of the problem is when it gets here, ParcelFarce take it over and they bill the customs charges by letter post. So it can be sitting in their warehouse for a week before you find out it's arrived. The only problem I ever had was a seller who wanted to use a company called Bax Global, who he said he used at work. He said it would cost $85, which I thought was cheap, but assumed he had some kind of bulk discount. When it arrived I discovered he'd shipped it "door to airport", which meant the handler this end billed me for the rest of the journey, which with customs and handling charges came to £155.
16. And the positive above - "as described".
17. Not strictly JapCrap, a (maybe) 1980s MIK Aria Pro II TAB 60. I saw it towards the end of the auction and wasn't sure enough about it to float £300 shipped, but I think it looks really nice. Does anyone know anything about them? Aria Pro II Tab 60
18. There's a 1965 EKO Florentine bass that went for 480 Euro on Ebay recently. I'm no expert on EKO either, though I had a 1970s Manta that was just awful, but an original 1960s model in good condition, which it looks as if yours is, should attract interest if you advertise it in the right place. If I were you I'd try it on Ebay, and if you're worried about leaving it totally to the market, put a reserve on it. I don't think there's enough people on here with that sort of vintage interest for you to be sure you'll get a good price. 19. You can rehearse the between songs stuff too much. I've been to see The Hamsters many times and it's getting to the point where I can recite the patter with him. "... Purple Haze ...", here comes the story about the Devil's chord.
20. By the time Peter Green had Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan on Assistant Lead Guitar and Lead Guitarist's Assistant, or whatever, I was starting to wonder who was doing how much of the hard work. Unfortunately I never got to see him live till Splinter Group, and by then it was all too painfully obvious. Regarding McVie and Fleetwood, there's not too many that have survived from Mayall to the present day with their integrity pretty much intact. I'm sure I have a Wyman & Watts cravat somewhere, paisley pattern, I think it's in the ottoman.
21.
Wow, you've got to engage with your audience I think! There is a good reason that photos may suggest you look at your frets a lot, and that's because it's usually easier to get clearer photos when you're stood still, which will often coincide with the start/end of a song.
That explains something. I'm sure I don't look at the neck all the time, and I really make an effort not to, but every photo, there I am, eyes down.
22. Yamaki P Bass Looks nice. And expensive.
23.
I did realise after posting that what I was after is a mixer, but it seems a bit overkill jsut so I can listen to a song and my bass.
If what you want to do is play along with mp3s or drum tracks on a laptop, try just plugging the bass into the laptop mic/line input and the headphones into the laptop phones output. Then if you make sure the Mic sound channel isn't muted, you should hear both the bass and the mp3 through the headphones. I only found out by accident that this works, and the bass tone is pretty good, certainly compared to any headphone amp I've used. And it costs nothing. I've done this with active and passive basses. I'm using a standard 2xmini-jack lead with a 1/4" jack adaptor at the bass end. Doesn't seem to matter whether the jacks are mono or stereo. The laptop is a Thinkpad, which isn't known for sophisticated audio, so I assume it would work with anything. Just remember to mute the mic channel before you unplug the bass, otherwise you get high pitched feedback.
24. That's lovely. Makes me wish I could play guitar.
25.
Hi there i haven't been in here for a while ..I may be interested ...I have the crappiest practice amp ever but i want to upgrade to something that will help me with my slap/pop technique...would yours be sufficient??? or in honesty should I be upgrading again ...thanks for your advice
Don't really know what amp requirements are for slap, but this isn't very sophisticated. Just a 3 band eq, so the tonal options aren't great. On the B60 I had there was a Shape control which would probably be closer to what you're looking for. I believe the Roland Cubes are good for tone options.
