1. Damn , that's some very funky playing. Filter Twin sounds like another pedal to add to my slowly increasing GAS list.
2. Sadly my knowledge of electronics is somewhat lacking, so I have absolutely no chance of building my own Mu-tron III clone. I'm now waivering somewhere between an original Mu-tron III and the 3Leaf Proton. I've been reading up a lot on the Proton and have seen nothing but glowing reviews for it, with most saying that it is a close to a Mu-tron III as you can get with a modern envelope filter. Some of the clips on You-Tube almost have me sold and they're a third of the cost.
3. Bet I'll be the lone bloke who just plays for fun at home
4. Thank you for both views. I have to admit I've listened to some Mu-tron III demo's on You-Tube and I have all the Parliament, Bootsy's Rubber Band stuff where Bootsy was heavily using the Mu-tron III and I've yet to find a sound like it. I can get some nice quack out of my micro Q-Tron and I love the squelchiness of the Chunk 00Funk Mk II, but neither are the same as the Mu-tron. (The 3 Leaf Proton sounds promising though and the website seems to suggest that it can replicate that Mu-tron III sound??) But in conclusion I've still got GAS for a Mu-Tron III - damn!
5. Key Music also have a sister company in over in the Hague called Rock Palace, but I think the website has pretty much all the same stuff... http://www.rockpalace.com/en/
6. Hi P So far as I can recall the list price was the price I paid, i.e. no taxes on top. Doing a bank transfer also meant there was no transaction charges (beyond the exchange rate that the bank gives you). Hope this helps.
7. KeyMusic Brussels was where I bought my Washburn Spacebass from last July. I dealt with them primarily over the phone and email (Mainly with a chap called Alain who works in their guitar dept) and they were very professional, helpful and courtious and quick to respond to queries. I paid for my bass in Euro's via a Bank Transfer. Alain even called me at home to talk me through the bank transaction. The bass arrived quickly, with free delivery and so well packaged it took me ages to get into it. All in all I found them a pleasure to deal with.
8. I’ve been getting serious GAS about an original Musitronics Mu-tron III, but, are they really as good as their ‘legendary’ reputation? Firstly, they are soooo expensive. Are they really worth all that money? (those currently listed on eBay start from £400+ !!) How do they compare with other ‘Mu-tron clone’ pedals such as the Haz Labs Mu-tron III+ or the Q-Tron+ (which are obviously a lot cheaper)? I have a Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk II which is a very funky & wet sounding filter, but, so far I’ve not been able to get it to sound anything like the Mu-tron III. Are there common realiability problems with a Mu-Tron? I’ve also heard there are issues with volume spikes? Anyone out there who’s got one or played one and able to give their thoughts (positive or negative) on these vintage pedals? Thanks!
9. I have two basses, my Washburn Bootsy Space Bass and my recently acquired Warwick Corvette $$ Custom Shop. I love both basses to bits, and would never willingly part with either. Two basses are probably enough for me, but that never stops me getting the occasional GAS. I'm a sucker for finding the perfect envelope filter too though, so that's probably where I'll be spending my hard earned cash in the future.
10. I'd forgotten just how good Deee-lite was back in the day, think they deserve an honourable mention on this thread, definitely more than a one hit wonder...these tracks feature Bootsy on bass and Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley on horns.... 11.
A few guys who I'm digging lately who don't get mentioned on here..... Leonard 'Hub' Hubbard-The Roots...Sits back with some sparse grooving lines and then slips in some hip fill when you don't expect it. Raphael Saadiq-Tony,Toni,Tone...He's got that laid back vibe that sounds like it influenced Pino's work with D'angelo.
+1 for Raphael Saadiq and Leonard Hubbard. I'd also add Aaron Mills (Cameo and Outkast bassist, created some very funky basslines), plus Cordell 'Boogie' Mosson (the Parliament/Funkadelic bassist that did a lot of live and studio work who isn't Bootsy), plus Mark Adams (Slave - possibly the best tone out of all the funk bass players I've heard).
12.
I've got a custom built 5 pick-up left handed monster. I did enquire about the Washburn, "...Lefthanded ?" they laughed. I like to take it out for usually the most inappropriate gigs.
Wow, that is one fine looking Space Bass. I've never seen a lefthanded one anywhere before, and FIVE pick-ups!! that must sound like an absolute monster. Bet you get some looks when you play that at gigs!
13.
Let's not forget that sexy looking Warwick there I'm a sucker for that top wood
Cheers - I'm equally as proud of my Warwick, they make some beautiful looking & sounding basses. That's a very nice Peavey Grind too if I'm not mistaken in your Avatar. I've never been brave enough to try a six string.
14.
Excellent !!! Welcome to Space Camp (fellow owners of Space Basses !).... have you gigged it ?!!!
No, I've never dared to gig it, I really just play for fun. What type of Space Bass have you got? they're really hard to get hold of these days.
15. Thanks. If I had a spare £10k or so I would love to get the Warwick Space Bass!

17. A bit obscure but one of my fav's (+1 for Beastie Boys too)
18. Here's my pride and joys: a Washburn Bootsy Collins Space Bass Ltd Edition No.8 and a Warwick Corvette $$ UK Ltd Edition Custom Shop No. 4, plus a couple of Chunk Systems pedals...
19. I've got one but considered it as a novelty toy with no real benefit to playing a bass.
20. For me it would be the original Musitronics Mu-Tron III and the Mu-tron III+ HAZ version - just to see if they are much different. Also the Love Tone Meatball and the Akai Deep Impact. All of them look/sound interesting and I'm definitely tempted to get a Mu-tron III (if at the right price), but I'm not sure if they are worth splashing out all that cash on.
21. Make that four. I'm not a huge fan of Fenders either. I've no idea what represents being cool but I like my basses to look a little different from the masses.

23. A belated welcome from another Funkateer. As another big fan of Zender, Bootsy and all things funked up, I'd just like to say what cracking taste in music you have!
24.
I'll just chime in by saying I used to listen to a lot of rap/hip-hop (ice cube, 2pac being top) then I had the idea of picking up the bass. I discovered most of the songs I like have bass-lines sampled from old funk songs. Since then I've pretty much only listened to funk music. The songs seems to groove along better with a more definitive flow than most of the music which I can't stand coming out at the moment.
That's exactly how I got into funk music, and never looked back, and also the reason I picked up the bass. For those of you saying funk music lyrics aren't deep try to listening to 'Vanish in Our Sleep' by Bootsy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y4q7ynqIpk&feature=player_detailpage
25. +1 for George Clinton too - I saw him years ago at the Island in Ilford, one big party and the organisers eventually had to switch the lights off to get him off the stage. Bootsy too is a massive influence. I saw him last year at IndiO2 and he's still got the funk by the shovel load.
