  1. She doesn’t understand.
  2. Sorry KT, I’ve got all the gear I need.
  3. Jack, you asked for something to excite you. Value for money wasn’t mentioned. 😀
  4. Use any (most) amp and stick a Felix on top, go into the effects return of the amp and bingo. Felix has two independent channels, each with three positions of input impedance, sweepable HPF or notch and a comprehensive eq section. I’d take a photo but I’ve just loaded for a gig tomorrow.
  5. KNA pickup for double bass gives a high output and is easy to install in the E bridge wing. It comes with spare shims to make it simple to fit in any thickness of slot. Price includes postage. http://www.knapickups.com/en/cello/bass/db-1-pickup-kremona
  6. The only German blonde my wife lets me take out. As part of my on-going declutter I’m offering my nice ply honey blonde bass. I bought it from Peter Tyler a dozen years ago and although it isn’t labelled Peter reckons it’s one of the basses brought over from Germany in the late 50s/early 60s. It has an unusually slim neck which makes it easy to get your hands round. There are a few dings suffered over the years but it still presents itself well, as I hope the photo shows. It is fitted with Spiro medium strings and the trueness of the fingerboard is demonstrated by the buzz-free string height of 7mm to 10mm. Offered with Underwood pickup and soft cover, this bass has a nice acoustic sound and amps very impressively. It’s at a generous price of £600 and I regret I can’t entertain lower offers. I’m just outside Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire if you would like to see/hear this nice instrument.
  7. I bought a Magellan from Brian. Everything perfect, speedy transaction with UPS delivery two days after first contact and good comms all the way. 100% confidence.
  8. That is a fine piece of kit. I’ve got a few amps and cabs which come and go. But my Shuttle is a keeper, especially for the quick carry in gigs. Stuff seems to be moving quite slowly at the mo but this shouldn’t hang around for long. GLWTS
  9. A Krivo is £189 over here at Promenade Music https://www.promenademusic.co.uk/krivo-upright-bass-pickup
  10. I couldn’t get one of my basses to get an even consistent volume across the four strings with piezo, no matter how much I tried. So I put the cheapest mag, a Schaller on. The result is amazing and I get complimented on a lot of jazz gigs for the clarity of the notes. Stingray Pete is a Schaller user. He likes his. There are ‘better’ more expensive ones but why pay more?
  11. FDeck HPF, Grace Felix, Two Puma 500s, Genz 3.0T Ten Shuttle, Wizzy 10, Barefaced One Ten, Two Genz 10-2s and Roland Super Cube 60 for sale. Too many.
  12. Double basses are now down from 4 to 3, having just sold my Martin. And then the aim is to get down to one as there is a massive clearout in the house in anticipation of a downsize. Still too many amps though, as nothing seems to be selling at the mo.
  13. Oh sure, it’s dead basic but, as you say, a start. They say the trick to playing ‘challenging’ timing is to read slightly ahead of your playing.
  14. Will this help the timing? A low tech solution perhaps😀
  15. Anyone used the 800 for double bass yet? Love the 10-2 Array cab and gassing for a match. Puma 500 at present.
  16. Coffee and KitKat at inflated price at a convenient filling station.
  17. The Rose and Crown, North Parade, Oxford. Jazz in the courtyard right through the year. When it’s wet or cold they roll out an awning and light patio heaters. Great cosmopolitan crowd. Best pub in GB, Andrew, the owner/landlord likes his jazz, free beer and bangers and chips at the end of the gig. Always a gig to look forward to.
  18. I prescribe Dulux.
  19. Sounds like the local Rotary club.
  20. But at the time of Time Out and Time Further Out (I had them both) the Brubeck Quartet were quite conservative and there was a lot of anchoring going on. For instance when Joe Morrello was soloing in Take Five, Brubeck vamped under him. Later, when they were more familiar with the stuff they were able break free. By the time the Prog groups cam along they were able to handle all sorts of time sigs with ease.
  21. I shared a dressing room with Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee once. Does that count?
  22. It’s the drums that make you tap your feet, the bass that makes you swing your hips. To my knowledge it’s only Penguins that tap their feet as a come-on.
  23. We’ll soon be contemplating downsizing, so I don’t want to make the move with four double basses in tow. Here is my Martin Solo Bass. This one of the top of the range basses based on Martin’s 3/4 model but with the upper bouts reduced in width to get better access to all parts of the fingerboard. Needless to say this bass sounds superb. It was built in March 2015 and has had quite an easy life since. It comes with a gigbag and I can fit a Fishman Full Circle pickup if required. Now do the maths:- New from Martins this would cost around £13k. It is at present advertised on a double bass website for £9.5k. I’m offering it on this forum for £8.5k, no offers. It represents an amazing opportunity for someone who is ready to upgrade to a top class instrument.
