1. I beg SK8's pardon. Hiwatt do use Partridge transformers, not sure whether these are made to Hiwatt's spec or the original Hiwatt spec which may be different. The Partridge Transformers brand is now owned by Transformers and Rectifiers Ltd and claims to be making them to the original design. As Mr Foxen says, if it works, it works. I'm sure they're fine amps. The point that there's no connection between the old and new Hiwatts other than the name, and no continuing manufacture or development and hence no consistent history or historical links still stands.
2. If I were you I'd have a chat with Mike Walsh at Zoot before you do anything drastic. Even if it is out of warranty.
3. Well, we'll see. I've emailed Steve at Hawkwood Guitars and he's about 15 minutes up the road from me so I'll be checking it out. Sheldon: you don't wanna mess with that Broon stuff, it's isn't even proper beer, just a blend of leftovers. Much better to come and visit sunny Suffolk and we will check out some decent Adnams and go and knock on Andrew Guyton's door :-) Dingwall spotters, hope you noticed that Big Dave from Jools Holland's band was using a Dingwall bass when they backed Cindy Lauper last week. Is ver' nice.
4. I bought a rack bag from Nik - an excellent transaction all round and Nik was able to cope with me forgetting to send him the delivery address in his stride. Nice one - buy with confidence folks.
5. Now gone to an extremely good home, many thanks Ashley.
6. The reason you are struggling is that there is no connection between the Hiwatt amps produced by Dave Reeves company up until 1984 and the 're-issues' produced by the owners of Music Ground in the current century. When Hiwatt folded in 1984 Dave Reeves widow sold the rights to the name to one of the guys running Music Ground. That's it - end of connection, end of story. Don't know what the revival amps are like, but they're probably made in China. They're definitely not hand-wired by Harry Joyce, they definitely don't have Partridge transformers. Other than the name, there is no connection. All this is explained in painstaking detail on the hiwatt.org site and there's probably more information on plexi palace.
7.
I'm still looking for some form of guitar amplification or Mackie SRM - Can anyone help?
My gig is cancelled, so I'm hoping to make this. I suppose I could bring the 100W Burman Valve combo - do you think that would be loud enough? I'd need someone to give me a hand getting it out of the car.
8.
Mustango Sallyana
Ha ha ha, is that the one that goes on for 45 minutes without a break? (Please give my regards to Gione, he's a lovely chap and a pleasure to work with)
9. Now both sold - thanks for all the interest.
10.
One quick question, does the wireless control unit come with rack mounting ears, can't quite make it out on the pics.
PM on it's way. There are no rack ears with these wireless control units and as far as I know they can't be rack-mounted - there's no provision for fitting ears and Sennheiser don't afaik make a rack mount kit for them. Crez can probably confirm.
11. 4U rackbag now sold - 2U case still available
12. I'm not entirely sure why the peanut gallery is sniggering at this. Seems like an entirely legitimate listing. It's not a million miles from me - does anyone want me to go and check it out?
13. I have two Sennheiser FP35 Freeport wireless vocal microphones for sale. These are as new, in original packaging complete with wireless transmitters, power supplies and mike stand adaptors. New price for these is £129 - I'll take £75 each or £125 for the pair, collected from Ipswich or London. I'm also happy to ship to the UK, including Northern Ireland, Gareth Hughes ;-) at cost. May also be interested in trades for SM57/SM58 and other PA or lighting gear with cash either way.
14. Very substantial 19" 2U rack case with two removeable ends and mounting racks at both ends. Wood construction covered with carpet, carrying handle on either side. Case depth is 40cm, mounting rails are inset 2cm. End pieces are 7.5cm deep so you could use this case to mount something up to 45 cm deep if you don't mind the end bit sticking out when the covers are off. Weight is 11 Kg. £20 including mounting screws, collection from Ipswich or London (possibly including SE Bass Bash) or will ship at cost. Thomann 19" 4U rack bag, like this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_rackbag_4he.htm Weight 5 Kg. £10 collection from Ipswich or London (possibly including SE Bass Bash) or will ship at cost.
15. I saw him play with Joe Bonamassa last night. It was kinda hard to make out his rig (might have been a Markbass 2x10 on it's side) but the bass he was using was definitely an Xotic 5-string. That guy is some player by the way. Some pictures of the gig are here, you can just about make out the bassist in some of them. www.flickr.com/photos/mybenners/sets/72157625034000087/
16. Damn I'd like another one of these. Anyone want to go dutch?
17. Use a Presonus Firepod - 8 mic pre-amps , makes a great mixer. 1u.
18.
Nope. The original plan with the Vintage was to tune it higher but it sounded better with the same tuning as the Compact, and net volume per driver is near identical. We've discontinued the Vintage because although there's demand for it there's much more demand for the other cabs, so it's a question of rationalising the product range. Plus the name is really confusing as you can get all the other cabs (bar the Midget T) in a 'vintage' look!
That's a great pity. The other reason for the Vintage, that it was built to fit underneath proper valve amps, is still valid and a stack of two compacts is not going to have anything like the same visual appeal or the necessary stability. Oh well, guess I'll be keeping my EBS 2x12 for a while longer.
19.
Is it an SB301 or an SB310, Max?
Neither, since it's got one of Max's preamps.
20. The headstock design will give a clue. If it's a treble Clef it's 1963 or earlier, though there weren't many earlier than '63. If it's a 'dagger' design it's 1964. Immaculate un-modified versions seem to go through the bay for 3 hundred tops, so I'd agree with Jack's assessment.
21. Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions. I picked up a box of Maplin springs today, bargain for 3 quid, and it looks like Axes R Us have the screws I need. Never thought of them. Sorted once again thanks to Basschat!
22. Can anyone suggest a likely supplier, either on-line or walk-in for some small wood screws? I need No. 3 x20mm long, round head. Preferrably black japanned but I'll take what I can get. In case anyone is wondering, this is to fix the Roland GK3B V-bass pickup to my bass - the second hand pickup that came with the unit didn't have any screws and I'm getting fed up with sticking it back on with tape. I'll also need some small compression springs, I was thinking either Maplins or chopping up a couple of ball point pens but better suggestions welcomed.
23.
True. But they can be moulded into a variety of interesting shapes. Ideal for friends and family with Xmas just around the corner.
And the winner is ... Someone please put this in the quotes thread for posterity.
24.
I wanted to keep it downstairs but the missus was very insistent that it be moved to the bass room.
Hmm. Mine lives in the bedroom. The upright I mean, not the Mrs. If only.
25.
That's cheap capos, I should hasten to add. There are all sorts of more expensive capos that purport to exert only the necessary pressure, but I have yet to meet a guitarist who has one.
The G7 is hands down the best capo that has ever existed. Never mind a guitar, I use one on a 10-string bouzouki and it stays in tune right up the neck even at the 10th fret. All the guitarists I've worked with who have seen this capo have started out by saying "that's a lot of money for a capo" and ended up buying one when they borrow it and realise how good it is.
